The Monster Sleeps

Sadie

I didn't know where it came from, but just as I was shaking my head to answer Annabeth, a word popped into my head:

QED.

Somehow, I knew that it meant to sleep. I nodded and grabbed my wand and staff. I looked up at the monster again and saw Magnus battling it. It kept trying to bite him, but he always danced out of the way. I focused and shouted "QED" and flicked my wand. The hieroglyphics floated toward the serpent and smacked him in the snout. His eyes started to flicker shut but then he shook his head and started to dive at Annabeth. Soon, Annabeth and Magnus were locked in a deadly dance with the snake. I tried to do the spell again but I almost blacked out.

"Looks like you need my help," a voice whispered in my mind.

"Who-who are you?" I asked, shaking my head.

"That's unimportant. Let's just say that I'm an ally. Now, do the spell again," the voice continued.

I did and this time, when the golden hieroglyphics hit the serpent, he was fully knocked out and flopped back into the ocean. I saw out of the corner of my eye, Percy struggling to hold back the water. Then I blacked out.
