"Mother,mother!"John cried as he got home."ha-ha-have you heard the news?"

"What news my son?"his mother asked as she was rewrapping her cloth on her way from the kitchen.
When she got to know that her husband had been involved in a serious motor accident and was now at the hospital,she ran inside, gathered the things needed and rushed with her son to the hospital.

When they got there Mr. Tetteh had already passed away. They wept bitterly back home.
At home,Kaleb and Laila were waiting for John. They were worried as to why he stormed off earlier.
John then told them what happened and they consoled him and his mother,and left to their respective homes promising to inform their parents of the tragedy.

"Pretenders", John's mother cried as she cleaned the beads of tears from her cheeks."my son" she said "I have something to tell you".
They both braced themselves and she continued "Isn't it obvious by now that the Rockson family are a curse?"

"What are you saying mother?I know dad's death was sudden and heartbreaking but the Rocksons aren't to be blamed for this."

"My son, haven't you noticed that our lives have been going down the drain ever since we befriended that family?"

This time John was silent and listening with rapt attention.She continued"first of all,my shop got burnt then your dad started drinking then your grades were going down and now the death of your father." She broke into fresh tears as she spoke the last words of the sentence.

John had to calm her down again."They are a curse", she cried aloud "don't walk with that friend of yours anymore,it won't do you any good,if you really care for me please do as I say."

Taking in this information was not easy for John but then he remembered how all the girls at school compared his looks to Kaleb's looks and made fun of him. He then replied to his mother"I can't just avoid my best friend mother, but don't worry I know now how to deal with him,for now let's go inside and sleep,it's been a long and tragic day."
