The Prom

Its the morning of Prom and I had no motivation to get out of bed.

Last week I found James in bed with some girl from Coleview Heights.

He didn't know I was there but he definitely found out. Mason screamed at him while I stared in shock. Lets just say... I'm not exactly happy.

He's been trying to reach me all week. He's called, texted, even emailed every hour of everyday and I ignore him.

I don't know why it hurts so much. We weren't even dating.

Yes, I had major feelings for him, and I thought he had feelings for me but I guess not.

I received one text from him today, "Can't wait to see you tonight."

In which I replied with, nothing.

Evelyn was coming to pick me up tonight. She finally got her license and has been driving around to random places for a week. She's so excited.

I need to get mine, I just can't be bothered.

Evelyn
5 mins away

I contemplated on not even going, but we need to figure out who this psycho is. And the only way to do that is to go and find out, before they find us first.

"Okay, are you nearly ready? My parents want pictures before we go." She smiled, rolling her eyes. I nodded slowly, adding one last swipe of lipgloss across my lips before screwing on the cap. "I think I'm ready."

My dress was dark, forest green that I paired with white heels. I had a simple gold eyeshadow look with a basic nude lip. Whoever kissed me tonight will get my lipgloss all over them.

Yeah, I wish.

As I posed with a fake smile, watching the flash of the camera go off, it finally sunk in how much I was actually dreading going to this stupid dance.

The one guy I wanted to go with fucked me over. I'm not sure if it was a dare, if he was drunk or if he simply wanted to. Either way, it hurt.

"You okay? You're really quiet." Evelyn smiled. I nodded once, "Yeah no. This dress is really tight." I laughed, trying to ease the tension.

"Well, you look amazing." She winked.

"She's right." My breath hitched. I recognised that voice. I looked at Evelyn who gave me a short smile before ducking away.

Turning around, I saw James. He literally took my breath away.

He was dressed in a black suit with a black tie, black dress shoes but a dark green flower in his suit pocket to match my dress.

His hair was gelled, but not to gelled, and it had been styled in his usual, sexy yet messy way that I love. And, he'd shaved.

"If I wasn't so upset with you right now I'd say you look handsome." I said, choking back words I wanted to scream at him. He chuckled, "Well, I think you look absolutely beautiful."

His words were like honey. Soft and delicate. They vibrated against my cheek and his breath fanned my skin, "You are beautiful, so beautiful."

His hand cupped my face slowly and I pulled away.

He flinched quickly, pulling his hand down. He looked at me with an almost sad look in his eye. He was about to speak when the font door slammed shut and Evelyn appeared, "Ready to go?"

"Yep." I said quickly, slicing through the awkward tension.

Evelyn shuffled over to James's car, holding her dress up as he opened the door for her. She practically threw herself inside, shaking off the small snow flakes that landed on her shoulders.

"Hurry up. We need to take pictures before it gets dark." She freaked, closing the door.

"Sofia-"

"Please don't." I interrupted, clearing my throat, "Lets just go." My voice was small, and I wished it wouldn't betray me. "Okay." He simply said.

Nonetheless, he still opened my door for me. I climbed inside and maintained eye contact with the corsage on my wrist. Evelyn and I are each others dates.

"Wheres's Mason?" I asked.

Evelyn shrugged, "We're meeting him there. He texted an hour ago saying he was getting high beforehand."

I smiled, "Fair enough."

We drove to the dance in silence. The only sound was the slight buzz of the radio playing casual jazz songs. The Prom was in the next town over. They have a bigger hall and could hire more decorations.

Once we arrived, I was struggling to breathe.

That whole car ride I could feel James's stare. He kept stealing glances. His side eye isn't very subtle. "I'll go get our tickets." I offered, basically running away.

I approached the front desk, another fake smile plastered onto my face, "Three tickets for Sofia, James and Evelyn." I said.

She handed them to me and I opened the envelope, handing them out to the guys before we made our way inside, "Has Mason texted yet?" I asked.

Evelyn shrugged her shoulders.

Boom Boom Pow by the Black Eyed Peas blasted loudly through my ears as we entered through the hallway. "He said he's by the back near the punch bowl." Evelyn yelled. I averted my eyes and squinted just enough that I could see his buzz-cut, "There." I pointed.

"Hey." I shouted, nudging Mason on the side. "Don't you clean up nice." I smirked. Mason just nodded, bringing a silver flask to his lips.

I snatched it off him, sniffing the cap, "This is whiskey. Are you an idiot?" I said, shoving the flask into my purse, "No. But I don't want to be here. This is the only thing keep me sane right now."

I know the feeling.

James finally caught up to us, his guard fully up and he kept his shoulders tense, hands in his pockets. "Okay so what are we expecting from tonight?" I asked.

Evelyn shrugged, "I don't know. But can we go somewhere quieter?" I nodded, "Great plan."

Snaking out of the gym hall unscathed and unnoticed was easy, it was sneaking into a classroom that was the hard part.

"Come on, this rooms open." I said quickly, opening the door handle. We all slid inside and I closed the door, turning the light on.

"Okay, we know for a fact that something is going down tonight, but what. We haven't heard anything from anyone in ages aside from one or two texts."

I rubbed my hands together, my nail polishing catching the light.

"I have a really bad feeling." James spoke. There was silence, and I think he was saying what we were all thinking.

"Yeah, me too." Mason admitted. "I've felt sick since I woke up this morning. It's usually never a good sign." I chuckled nervously, "Are you pregnant?" Evelyn joked.

I slapped her on the arm, "Shut up."

Suddenly, the text tone from my phone went off. I held my breath, but then, a second tone, then a third and finally, a fourth.

"Well then, show time." Mason said, pulling out his phone.

I clicked on the image, gasping when I saw a picture of us four standing in the classroom. We rushed to the windows, glaring outside. Nothing.

"Uh guys, we're fucking locked in here." Mason said, "What? I didn't lock the door." I said.

I shoved Mason out of the way and and tried the door, "What the fuck."

"They must've locked it while we were distracted."

I took one more look out the window, "What now?"

Another text.

Midnight is when the fun begins,
Let's hope you're all ready.
I'm waiting for the ball to drop,
Like a pretty, shiny penny.

"Is this a riddle?" James said angrily.

I shook my head, "I have no idea but, I'm scared." I said, "Yeah, my bad feeling just got a whole lot worse."

Hey you guys!!!

I'm so sorry, I suck at updating.

I just moved house and we don't get wifi installed for another two days, so I've been using data from my phone. It's been a week of unpacking, plus school and a few birthdays.

Sorry for the late chapters. I'm trying my best to update!

Love you all Xx
