Chapter 35: Akira's Final Exam Part 1

Akira's POV

The next few rounds came and went rather quickly. Ururaka and Aoyama won their match against Thirteen by using her power against her. Ashido and Kaminari failed miserably against the Principal, but they underestimated him so they were destined to fail. Koda and Jiro beat Present Mic with bugs once Koda concurred his fear of insects. Snipe was beaten by Shoji and Hagakure. Mineta won the match, but Sero fell asleep due to Somnambulis and failed - it was truly embarrassing.

However, now comes the hardest part. Midoriya and I walk to the entrance of our arena. "Do you have any kind of plan?" I ask as we head down the road. "I know your close with All Might, so you probably have an idea of how to work around him." When he starts panicking after I mention their closeness, I elbow his shoulder. "Dude, chill - your relationship is none of my business. I was just hoping for some kind of plan. I'm not exactly sure what to do."

Midoriya seems to relax at this. "Thanks, Akira," he replies. He puts his hand up to his chin as he thinks. "I think our best bet is to rely on stealth."

"Great, something I'm good at." We stop as we reach the giant doors. "Our only problem is..." Bakugo turns to us as we approach and scoffs. ...getting him to cooperate.

Then, a forgotten memory sprints through my mind. I see myself holding Bakugo's shirt, saying "You so much as touch him, and I'll kill you myself". Shit, what did I do? I think as we walk in silence through the gate. The fire in my stomach is now a constant low burn - annoying, but not unbearable.

The gates close behind us as the voice of the announcer fills the arena, "Team Midoriya, Bakugo, and Aizawa - Practical Exam. Ready, go!"

Bakugo starts walking down the center street. Midoriya and I look at each other in disbelief as we run behind to catch up. Uncle Toshinori is going to catch us at this rate, I think as Midoriya and I stay on his heels. Midoriya tries to begin a conversation. "Kacchan, listen. In this scenario, the teacher is the villain and we are the heroes so we need a solid plan. Normally, I'd suggest that we analyze the villain's combat ability and choose to fight or run away based on that. But in this scenario, the villain is All Might so combat is out of the question. It would be impossible to beat him in a fight. I was talking it over with Akira, and I think our best bet is..."

"Stop following me!" he shouts at his partner.

Midoriya stops, but continues to follow him from behind. I continue at the pace I was. I am an Aizawa, so ignoring annoying people is my specialty; however, I have vampire blood in me that does not take annoying people lightly. I am at a crossroads, and trying to keep the peace is becoming rather difficult at the moment. I put my goggles back down over my eyes.

"We should stay away from the main road," Midoriya suggests, "and sneak away in the alleys."

Bakugo retorts, "I'm not gonna run away from this fight. It'll look better if we blast that smile off his face."

What the hell is wrong with this kid? I think. I feel the familiar itch spread down my arm to my fingertips. Thank god I have Kevlar gloves blocking the potential points from being visible on my hands.

Midoriya continues to try and talk his childhood enemy down. "We should avoid fighting him no matter what it takes."

"I'm going to toy with him until time runs out, and then knock him unconscious for real," Kacchan yells.

"Are you serious? Only an idiot would go into a fight like that so rashly," I say.

This makes Bakugo stop. He looks back at me. His eyes stare dead into me. "What did you just call me?"

I open my mouth to speak, but the fire heating up only indicates my response will make things worse. I take a deep breath in. "I apologize for calling you an idiot." I sigh nervously. "I also want to apologize for a few days ago. I shouldn't have threatened you like that. I didn't mean anything by it. I'm going through a lot of things in my personal life that are affecting..."

"I don't give a damn about your personal problems!" he screams. He walks up to me, taking me by the collar of my jacket. "I know you're hiding something, and your eyes constantly changing colors proves that. Once this is over, you and I are battling all out - no stupid interruptions like at the Sports Festival. I'll prove once and for all I'm better than everyone, even the sons of Pros." He shoves me just as he had the Sports Festival, but I do not run into a wall this time around. I stay standing as he walks away.

Midoriya tries to talk him down once more. "Think about this," he exclaims. "Even with those handicap weights, it'll be impossible to..."

Midoriya is interrupted by Bakugo swinging his gauntlet back and hitting him in the face. The green-haired boy falls back onto the ground. "I don't wanna hear another word. Just because you think you're getting stronger doesn't mean you get to tell me what to do."

I run up to Bakugo and grab his hand that he just hit Midoriya with. With my other hand, I grab his shirt. "What the hell, man? We're supposed to work together in this. Midoriya is doing what we are supposed to," I explain.

Bakugo uses his free hand to blast an explosion near my ear. Because of my enhanced hearing, I let him go and hold my right ear closed as it rings. "I don't wanna hear another word from you either, unless it's that damn secret you keep hiding."

I'm gonna kill him. The thought crosses my mind quickly, but I shake my head in an attempt to shake of all of what just occurred.

In the observation room...

"Oh dear," Recovery Girl says as they watch the match unfold. "There is absolutely no teamwork between those three. Though Akira seems to be trying with Midoriya, Bakugo just is not letting it happen. Don't they realize the trial ahead of them."

Yaoyorozu, Ida, Ururaka, Tsu, and Todoroki watch on. Todoroki watches the explosion go off in Akira's face, and his friend falls to the ground from the noise. "Come on, Akira," he whispers.

Back in the arena...

Bakugo begins to walk away again. "Come on, Kacchan!" Midoriya yells. "All I'm trying to do is get the three of us to pass the final!"

Bakugo looks back at us again. "I told you, we don't need your dumb power to pass! I can win it all by myself!"

"Can you two stop arguing for one damn second so we can get something done?!" I yell. "We'll never get anything done at this..."

My words catch in my throat as something trips one of my warning bells. The trip starts intensifying every second until I see the flying debris coming right at us. I hold my hands over my face. The wind throws the three of us back. It destroys windows, throws cars, and wrecks everything it touches. I barely avoid getting hit by a car. Once it dissipates enough, I rise to my knee. "Who really cares if I destroy this city?" All Might's powerful voice echoes off the broken buildings around us.

When did he get so intimidating? I think as he approaches. My mind fills with my instincts screaming at me to run, but I do not have enough time to listen. All Might stomps, sending a less but still intense wind at us. "If you think of this as an exam and not a real fight, you'll be sorry." All Might's eyes shine with an sadistic rage to them. "I'm a villain now, heroes," he says, "remember that. You'd better come at me with everything you've got. I won't pull my punches!"

Midoriya yells, "It's over if we fight him head on." He gets up and starts sprinting. "Let's run!"

"You don't have to tell me twice!" I respond as I follow his lead.

I hear All Might launch himself, and I hear Bakugo do the same. "Kacchan, no!" Midoriya yells. He stops, and I do the same as we watch Bakugo hold up his hand.

"How about a stun grenade?" Bakugo exclaims. He blasts it at the elder hero, and I close my eyes just in time. It makes All Might stop for a moment, but I know that's not enough. "You want everything I've got, All Might?" Bakugo says. He jumps into the air. "Like that wasn't my plan! I never..." The explosive boy is interrupted by our teacher grabbing his face. "...hold back, damn it," he finishes muffled. Even though he is caught by the number-one hero, Bakugo sets off explosions in his face.

All Might moves Bakugo's hand and slams the student into the ground. "You're blasts hurt nothing more than a sting." He turns to Midoriya and I, who are up on our feet. "And where do you two think you're going?" Suddenly, All Might disappears and reappears behind us. Doing this causes my mind to completely start pounding. I hold my head as the darkness starts to appear in the corners of my vision, taking me to my knees. Come on, I think, stay awake. "Don't think I've forgotten about the two of you - Young Midoriya and Young Akira. Are you really going to leave your teammate here and run away?"

The severe threat of All Might takes me back to Hosu. Terrible things cross my mind, and I move my body to flee. I roll backwards and push off my hands, flinging me into the air. I feel a power surge next to me, spotting Midoriya flying in the same direction. "Watch it!" I hear from behind me. I did not get a chance to look before the three of us collided. We hit the ground hard.

Bakugo and I are the first to stand. My classmate starts walking back towards All Might. Midoriya stands as well. "Stop it, Kacchan!"

"Out of the way!" he replies louder.

"Haven't you been listening to me? It'll be insane to face him head on!"

"Shut up, scum," Bakugo blurts out. "I will win this. That's what it means to be a hero."

"No, that's what it means to want to get yourself killed!" I scream. I grab Bakugo again, but move in time before he sets off another explosion.

"Incoming, heroes!" All Might's voice comes from above. I look up, and the bells start ringing. "I've come with a gift for one of the ones that wants to run away!" he tells us as he flies in with a broken fence. He slams it into the ground around Midoriya, trapping him. Then, he runs up to Bakugo and punches him, sending him flying.

I start panicking, but then look at the ground. The wind moved the asphalt. I take off my gloves, probably going to regret this later, then raise my fist and bring it down to the ground. I send a shockwave through the earth, tossing a few large chunks at All Might; doing this, I also freed Midoriya. Using my scarf, I make it come to life then wrap it around two chunks of debris on the streets. Like a whip, I swing both ends and smack All Might in between them. The collision causes a smoke-screen. I can see the outline of All Might, so I throw my scarf at his rising fist. Once I feel the secureness of the wrap, I try and pull him in close.

Big mistake.

All Might moves easily into the momentum I had. "You truly are your father's son, hero," he says as he flies at me. He takes his gigantic hand and slams me into the ground. "Cementoss taught you well with Earth power." Then, he lifts me off the ground. "But just like him, you have to be touching what you can control. Take you off the ground, and eliminate the threat." Struggling in his grip, I try to look him in the eyes. All Might must have been thinking what I was, because he covers my face with his hand. "Also like your father, if you can't look me in the eyes, you can't erase my quirk." I feel him wind up. "Let this teach you to try and take my power!" He slams my head into the ground. I feel a few of my ribs crack, and my ears begin ringing again. The back of my goggles snaps, and they fall off my face beside me.

"Akira! Kacchan! Are you okay?!" Midoriya yells from where he takes shelter a few yards away. I see Bakugo a few feet away through the ground.

I struggle to sit up, and a burning sensation erupts throughout my body. I fall back onto my back and turn over onto my side. My healing factor is in full swing, but it is spiking my need for blood. My fangs push through my gums, cutting my lip. Stop it, stop it, stop it!

Bakugo stands up slowly, shaking. The punch had taken a lot out of him - he had thrown up as he flew over. All Might walks over to him slowly. "Ha! I know why you're so angry, Young Bakugo," All Might tells him, "because of Young Midoriya's sudden improvement, right? Or is it because Young Akira is seemingly hiding a power that makes him stronger than you?" Bakugo stops shaking at his statements. "But you have to remember the rankings when the year first began. It's much easier to level up when you're a novice. You're wasting your full potential. Do you see that? Do you understand me?" He turns to his student with his arms outstretched. "You still have room to become stronger, my boy. And I don't just mean your Quirk."

"Shut up, All Might," Bakugo muttered. All Might leans forward to help him hear. "If I'm so bad that I need help from a weakling like him..." Bakugo looks to Midoriya. "...or that I'm so weak that I can't even get him to use his hidden powers..." I see him look to me. "...then I'd rather lose this. Do you hear me?"

All Might brings up his fist. "I see. Don't forget that's what you said, hero."

He starts to bring his hand down to hit Bakugo, but Midoriya punches his bully out of the way. "Don't you dare say you'd rather lose!" he screams. "Let's win this, Kacchan!"

In that moment, it becomes like with the Hero Killer. I lose control of my body. I throw my scarf at both of them. Once it is securely wrapped around them, I pull them towards me. Midoriya takes this like a sudden plan. As they fly towards me, he jumps and takes us away from the fight.

Midoriya runs through the alleyways with us in his arms. "Put me down, dammit..." Bakugo says.

"Don't worry," Midoriya reassures, "I've got you both."

"Mi...Midoriya...please..." I mutter as best I can. I do not get a response from my classmate.

"I said put me down!" Bakugo yells and elbows Midoriya. The green-haired boy drops us both. I end up behind some boxes, Bakugo is close to my left while Midoriya is a few feet ahead of me.

The three of us take a moment to catch our breath. "Kacchan, Akira... I really can't think of a way to beat All Might or to make a clean getaway without him without him swooping in and stopping us." Midoriya looks at Bakugo. "But we can try at least by using my power, but you can't really say you're okay with losing. You're you because you never give in. You're always fighting. "The most amazing hero always wins" - you've been saying those words since we were kids. How can you give up now?"

Bakugo winds up and punches an explosion into the wall by Midoriya's head. "I'll tell you this one more time, you useless nerd. All Might's speed is insane. No matter where you try to run and hide, there's no way you'll avoid fighting him."

"Yeah, but we don't stand a chance in combat," Midoriya rebuts. "I mean, you saw him back there!"

"Shut the hell up before I kill you!" Bakugo screams. "He won't be stopped by anything other than a full-power attack. I learned that earlier with my mini blasts and Baby Teach's rock attack. So..."

Before he can finish his sentence, my hand throws my scarf and wraps around Bakugo's throat. He's thrust backwards down the alley. He falls flat on his back. I get on top of him. "God, you're annoying." The inhuman tone to my voice scares me to my core.

"Akira, what..." Midoriya panics and says.

I put up one of my hands. "Shut up, he's mine." The other wraps around Bakugo's throat.

I try and regain control of my movements. It is difficult, but I am able to take control back of my free hand. I wrap that hand around my corrupted wrist. I spot my claws exposed on the fingertips wrapped around my wrist. "Stop it, he doesn't deserve this. He didn't do anything!"

"What are you talking about?" my corrupted side responds. "He's just like her! So selfish, arrogant, cocky - what part of him doesn't remind you of Mizukage?"

"He didn't do anything wrong! He might be annoying, but he doesn't deserve this. This is not what heroes do!" I yell. Bakugo looks up at me with anger and terror - I can only imagine what I look like in his eyes. I fear of what Midoriya is thinking as he witnesses this.

"You aren't a hero! You've seen the terrible things you've done! You're a monster, and you know it!" A more sadistic smile finds its way onto my lips. "And besides, I know you can smell it. His caramel scent - I bet it tastes as good as it..."

At that moment, I am able gain control of the hand around Bakugo's throat. I pull that hand back so hard that I fall backwards into the boxes behind me. I hold my hands on either side of my head, covering my ears to stop the voice that is seemingly everywhere. "Stop it, stop it, stop it!" I scream.

"Kacchan! Akira!" Midoriya shouts. He runs to Bakugo's side as the explosive boy starts to lean back upright. Both of them watch as I struggle to stay in control of myself. "Akira, what's going on?" All Might's protégé asks.

"Are you gonna tell him? Because the options are that or kill them both?!" I blurt out. I cover my mouth, then move my hands back to my ears. The smile on my face must look concerning to the two next to me.

I shake my head back and forth. "Shut up! I would never hurt them! They're my classmates!" I retort. I can hear Midoriya and Bakugo's heartbeats echo throughout my brain. It is excruciatingly painful. All my body wants is to consume their blood - all the voice is telling me is to consume their blood.

"Come on, you and I both know that's not true. Just drink..."

"Shut up!" I shout as I slam my head into the wall behind me. I hit hard, but I feel a sense of relief wash over me for a moment. A piece of the building's concrete wall falls off behind me.

"What the hell is wrong with you?" Bakugo yells as he walks up to me. His threatening figure sets off a delayed reaction in my brain.

Midoriya stops him before slowly approaching me. "Akira, what happened to you? Why was your voice like that? What...huh!"

My classmate gasps as I hold up my clawed hand, shaking. "You both need to run. I can't hold myself back for much longer." I feel the burning sensation rise into my throat. I rush my hand to my throat and throw my head into the ground.

"We don't have time for this," Bakugo says. He grabs me by my hero jacket's hood and pulls me to my feet. He leans me against the wall. He turns back to Midoriya. "I've got an idea. While I execute it, you get the problem out of here."

"Kacchan!" Midoriya replies at his jab at me. My classmate looks at me. "Akira, I don't know what's going on, but it doesn't matter right now. We need to get out and win this together."

Back in the observation room...

As the battle unfolded, the students of class 1-A watch the battle in horror. Bakugo, Midoriya, and Akira are getting destroyed by the number 1 hero.

Shoto is especially worried. When All Might slammed Akira into the ground, Shoto is the only person who knew what was going to happen next. And just as he expected, Akira's third quirk is poking its head out. He starts to tap his foot nervously.

After Midoriya had punched Bakugo, Shoto gasps as Akira's scarf wraps around the two and brings them close to him. If he had his phone, he would be panic-texting Mr. Aizawa. Midoriya then carries his classmates into the alleyways.

Suddenly, the camera covering the students starts to fizz out. "What's going on with the camera?" Ururaka exclaims.

The announcer then comes on the building's speakers. "We are experiencing some technical difficulties due to one of All Might's attacks. Please stand by and wait for the feed to reappear."

That has to be Mr. Aizawa's doing, Shoto thinks. Akira, please be okay. You have to be okay.

You have to be.
