Chapter 28: Father and Daughter Part 1

Elron looked at his daughter with painful pride in his heart. She had groan so much since he had last seen her, from the size of a small horse to a large car. Her eyes spoke of fearlessness and confidence. Her posture was stronger, more self aware and he could see the slight wariness in her eyes that told him that she didn't allow her emotions to control her.

"It's been a while," he nearly choked.

When they had read the signatures of two dragons in this cave he had hoped against hope that it wasn't his daughter, but as soon as he landed at the edge of the cave that hope had been dashed away. He just hoped she had improved enough to defeat him in battle, because there was no other way this was going to end.

"Dad," Silver, took a step back, not knowing whether to run to her father or away from him. The device in his head seemed to be blinking more rapidly then before, trying to force him forward.

Elron bowed his head, "I'm... I'm sorry Silver, but I've been ordered to take you in."

Her heart nearly broke at those words but she strengthened her resolve and let out a shaky breath, "You know I won't come easily."

"I hope you don't. I hope you manage to defeat me and fly away. I hope you find a place where you can live safe from A.O.D.H for the rest of your life," her father said, "But..."

He growled, shaking his head, trying to fight the compelling action of pouncing straight into the fight and destroying the two dragons in front of him with a single swipe of his talons. He fought the repulsing action of ever laying a talon on his daughter in attempt to harm her. But even as he struggled to resist the shear mental power of the device he began to walk forward, slowly, making the two younger dragons back away.

Silver looked toward Zepos and a silent agreement passed between them. They both got ready, if this idea didn't work then, trapped in this small cave, they wouldn't stand much of a chance against elder metal dragon.

Zepos opened his maw and suddenly shot a bolt of electricity toward Elron, but the metal dragon was fast, far faster then any of them anticipated. Before the lightning bolt even left Zepos's mouth the large metallic dragon flicked his tail, sending a volley of metal spikes at the electric dragon, sending his aim astray so the bolt hit the roof. He grunted as the spikes slammed into him, sending him into the cave wall.

Silver let out a cry of horror, for a moment thinking that he was dead, but when she saw that the metallic spikes had been blunted and Zepos was merely unconscious she let out a breath of relief, turning her attention back to her father. She cursed. Without Zepos, she had no chance of freeing her father.

"I'm sorry Silver," he said, the remorse plain in his voice.

"I know," replied his daughter.

She looked behind him to the cave exit. The only way she could win this was if she managed to get outside. The only strength she had over her father was agility, and for agility one needed plenty of space to move. A cave didn't provide that space.

Silver nearly yelped when her tail touched the back of the cave, she needed to think of something fast otherwise there would be no hope for either of them. Deciding rather to act then think she thickened the edges of her wings and leapt at her father, aiming to uppercut him in the underpart of his jaw. Elron growled, and took a step back, bringing up his paw and catching the wing it. Silver continued with her attack, stepping forward into the block and swinging her other wing sideways at her father's head. This one he didn't see and she was rewarded by a clanging hit as it collided with the upper part of his head, jarring her wing as metal came against metal.

The strike didn't injure Elron, but it caused his head to whip to the side and the loud ringing to dazzle him. He let go of Silver's wing and growled in pain, closing his eyes against the dull throbbing the rather strong blow had caused. Silver took advantage of her father's momentary lapse and pounced over his back with a flap of her wings, leaving a clear shot to the exit of the cave. She took it, running as fast as her legs could carry her. Tail spikes flew past her, a few ricocheting off her back and stabbing into the walls and roof. She staggered slightly but didn't falter, and with a roar of victory leapt into the open with her wings open.

Elron wasn't far behind, the machine now taken complete control of him. He was no longer himself, now completely enraptured by its mental snares. The metallic dragon roared as he flapped his wings, heading straight for the silver dragoness now flying upwards toward the top of the mountains.

Silver's heart was thudding hard against her chest as she looked down at her father. They had sparred many times before, and she had never beat him, and she had a feeling he had been going easy on her as well. She guessed another advantage she had in this fight was her will. She would do everything, well almost everything, she could to win, while Elron was being forced to something he didn't want to do. Mentality was very important in fights like these.

She turned in mid air, coming to a hovering stop, before folding her wings and plummeting downward again, flying straight toward her father. She opened her maw and rapidly fired small metallic spikes, like bullets, at the other dragon. He snarled as they pinged of his shell, some cutting up the underside of his unprotected maw.

As the two dragons passed each other Silver flapped her wings, trying to dodge passed Elron without clashing into him, but her father anticipated the move and spun, catching her in the side with the upper face of his wing. She growled in surprise and let out a snarl of pain as she was shoved into the mountainside.

She crashed headfirst, putting her wings out in front of her in an attempt to brace herself. A lone tree managed to slow her down slightly, but she just went right through it, rolling down the mountainside with a cascade of rocks following her. The speed at which she had crashed didn't help her either. She rolled herself as much as she could into a ball, but when a sharp pain seared through her left hind leg she couldn't help but scream.

The silver dragon finally came a stop on the valley flaw, moaning. A sheared off tree branch stuck from her injured leg and many other scratches were present on the unprotected portion of her body. Scales had been ripped out and blood was beginning to trickle slowly from the wounds. Her body throbbed and her breath came in ragged gasps. She was lucky she came out of the fall so well however, the metal shell having protected her from the worst of the damage.

With a shaky groan she hauled herself to her feet, dislodging a rock that had fell on her back. She stumbled slightly, limping. Turning around to the worst injury she gripped the tree branch in her jaws and with a deep hiss, ripped it out. More blood poured from the wound but it wasn't life threatening, or limb threatening.

So focused she was on patching herself up she nearly didn't see the dragon coming from above. At the last moment she leapt out of the way, just in time to dodge Elron as he slammed into the ground right where she had been. The rocks below his feet cracked against the force behind the strike and the metal dragon grunted in pain, not expecting to hit the ground quite so hard.

Silver snarled and lengthened her tail into a whip, swinging it forward with the expertise of months of training and landing a solid strike between her father's eyes. To both of their surprise the sharp whip cut a small groove in Elron's armour. The cut was quickly filled with metal again but it made them both realise something. Their armour could be cut through by another metal dragon.

Silver lashed again, this time aiming for his unprotected legs. Elron was already moving however as he pounced forward, crashing into his daughter and driving her into the ground, back first. She hissed and clawed at his legs, cutting long bloody gashes in them, but Elron hardly noticed. He reared up and pounded her into the ground again. Silver gasped as the air was knocked out of her and a few of her ribs cracked under the strike.

As Elron reared up a second time Silver opened her maw and shot a thick stream of metal at his neck. The force of it caused him to stagger backward on two legs. She formed the end of her tail from a whip to a mace and swung as hard as she could at his legs. Elron roared in pain as he was toppled over by the surprising strike. Silver wasn't sure but she thought she felt a bone break under the attack.

Both dragons struggled to their feet again, Silver having sharp pains shoot up her spine whenever she breathed and Elron favouring his right hind leg as he limped backwards from her, trying to gather himself together again.

Suddenly he laughed, managing to find some control over the device in his head, "You've groan better my daughter."

"Yeah?" Silver hissed, "It still hurts."

"A cracked rib?"

"More then one."

She coughed and shook her head, before grinning back. This was the first serious fight the two of them had, and despite the importance of it all they found they were enjoying themselves. Elron was the first dragon Silver had fought that she could go all out on without fear of seriously injuring him. Still, she hoped to either hold him off until Zepos regained consciousness or knock him unconscious herself. The last one was kind of a long shot to be able to accomplish.

"That was a hard fall you took," he said, gesturing to the trail of destruction that she had created down the mountain.

"It wasn't to bad. A few scratches, that's all," she said, "How's your leg."

"Bruised, not broken," he replied.

"Damn," she couldn't help but grin.

"Nice try though," he said, before snarling as the machine once again started to take over his consciousness.

Silver saw the strike right before it was about to happen. Elron formed spikes on his tail before launching them right at Silver. She reacted, leaping into the air with a flap of her wings. Pain ran through her at the movement but she ignored it, taking it in her stride and forcing herself higher and higher into the air.

Elron took a little longer to follow, but when he did she couldn't help but growl in annoyance. He had transformed into his full metal state, the armour shining in the sun as he rose out of the dust the two of them had formed in their scuffle.

Silver flung a storm of tail spikes in her father's direction, and was happy to find that it was a direct hit. Most of the spikes bounced harmlessly off the impenetrable shell, but a few managed to lodge themselves into the armour. Elron roared out his anger and Silver shivered. She really needed to get that device off his head.

Turning in the air she flew away from him, not willing to attempt another dive attack. The last one had ended badly enough. She twisted in the air, hearing the unmistakable sound of spikes piecing the air. The small bullet-like projectiles flew past her, a few embedding themselves into the shell on her back. Snarling she dove again, forcing her far heavier father to come after her once again. He was slower then her in his normal state, in this state he was basically at standstill speed. She could fly circles around him. The problem was making sure she didn't get hit.

Flying upwards again, making her movements unpredictable, she passed over her father, narrowly dodging his grab at her wings. She came to a stop above him again and flung another volley of spikes in his direction. Another hit. But still nothing damaging.

She growled in annoyance. There was nothing she could do that would piece through the armour, not unless she wanted to spend hours and hours flying around him and filling it with spikes. She would eventually break through but Elron would have figured out a way to get her far before then. She wondered if this was how other dragons thought when they tried to fight her and the invincible armour that she wore.

And then there was also A.O.D.H. If Elron was here then she knew that they wouldn't be far behind. They wouldn't let their favourite dragon fly around without protection, no matter how invincible he was.

Taking a deep breath she decided on a course of attack. Her shell expanded, covering her form once again in its protective shell, and flew at her father. If this was going to be a fight of strength, power and will, then so be it. Elron snarled and met her challenge, and they clashed in midair. A large metallic clang rang through the mountain range as the only two metallic dragons in the world came together with all the ferocity and power each one could muster.

Silver roared out as her ribs took the clash badly, but she managed to hold herself together, latching into to her father's neck with sharp teeth and clawing grooves into his belly. Elron thudded her chin with his own claws, shocking her slightly and making her let go of his neck. He then gripped her neck with his own claws and flew straight toward a mountain.

While Silver had grown quite a bit in their time away from each other, Elron had been growing also, and was still a fair bit bigger then his daughter. While Silver was the size of a large car, he was easily bigger then a small bus, and his extra size helped him in the clash, giving him a far greater momentum.

Silver was sly however, and shaped her tail into a razor sharp blade. She plunged it into Elron's armpit. It was just sharp enough to piece his armour and wound the pressure point she had been aiming for. He growled in surprise, loosening his grip on her neck. It was just enough. She twisted free and gripped her father's shoulders, pushing upwards with all her strength. As she did she lengthened her tail again, and whipped it around Elron's neck and flew upwards with a powerful sweep of her wings.

Now with some leverage on her father she flapped her wings again, flying as hard as she could in the opposite direction. She wasn't quite strong enough however and grunted in surprise as her tail was nearly ripped from its socket as Elron continued his flight toward the mountain. Snarling she whipped her tail again, unwinding it from him.

The two dragons turned to face one another once more. Silver was gasping for breath, the throbbing in her chest becoming more and more painful. It was making it hard to think and red stars were dancing across her vision. With a growl she shook her head and focused once again on the fight at hand.

Elron roared and launched a row of tails spikes in Silver's direction. She went to dodge them, but wasn't fast enough and they hammered into her chest, knocking her off balance in the air. Her father shot forward as fast as he could, taking advantage of her incoordination and slammed into her again. This time there was no way she could escape from his grasp.

He drove her into another mountain, succeeding in his attempt this time. Silver growled as she was slammed into the mountainside with enough force to crack rock. Her armour protected her and she managed to avoid being injured by the crash, but that was before Elron hammered her chest with mace-like tail. This time she screamed, her vision flicking off and then on again.

Elron landed above his daughter and struck her again and again, hammering her with claws and tail. Silver tried to move, tried to defend, but to no use. Everything was beginning to fade. Pain pulsed like water. Colours merged into a mass.

Inside Elron was crying, screaming at himself to stop. He tried to get away from his daughter, tried to freeze himself, but the device was hundreds of times stronger then anything he had experienced before, and it was following the order given to it. 'Capture Silver. You are free to do whatever you can to do so, short of killing her'. They didn't mention that it would kill him if he did.

And so it continued. A rugged crying scream every time Silver was hit, being berried deeper and deeper into the mountain, and a mental cry of rage and sorrow with every hit that was landed.

But just as Silver was about to give into the pain and the anguish... a fireball exploded into Elron's side.
