Season 1 Episode 2 - Dirty Little Secret(Part 1)

OPA
Liv and Mia are sitting at Olivia's desk, waiting for their client Sharon Marquette to stop in, as the news can be heard from the television beside them.

Mia: "So... you wanna talk about it?" she questions Liv while taking a sip from her almost finished cup of coffee.

Olivia: "Talk about what?"

Mia: "About the fact that Cyrus didn't know... but now knows about the two of—"

Olivia: "Oh, that... there's no reason to talk about it."

Mia: "Okay," she pauses, "What about the fact that you want to take Amanda Tanner on as a client?"

Olivia: "Mimi," she sighs.

Mia: "What? Do you want to take this on because you want revenge, payback, vengeance against the man? Like what possible reason can you come up with, in your mind, that tells you that taking Amanda Tanner on as a client is a good idea?"

Olivia: "I don't know... all I know is that we destroyed that girl, and then she tried to kill herself. Don't you feel bad about that? I mean out of any of us here, you're the one with the best conscience."

Mia: "I do feel bad. I feel terrible about that, but there are so many conflicts of interests with this Liv." she tells her before another brief silence falls amongst the two, "Do you really believe having us represent her is not only best for the firm but for her? I mean if something about you and—"

Olivia: "I believe because of that, that makes us the best place for her. I feel it in my gut that this is going to be the best thing."

Mia: "Your gut?" she asks as Liv nods in response. "And it's not clouded from Fitzgerald Grant?"

Olivia: "No. I fully and completely trust it. And it's telling me that taking Amanda Tanner on is going to be the right decision."

Mia: "Okay. I believe you. Let's get Amanda Tanner as a client."

Olivia: "I'll talk to Quinn later and send her to the hospital to check on Amanda."

Mia: "I can talk to her." she tells her while finishing the cup of coffee in her hands.

Olivia: "You sure?" she questions.

Mia: "Yeah, gotta make sure that she understands that just because my name isn't on those doors doesn't mean that I'm not a boss here like you."

Olivia: "Asserting your dominance early, aren't we?" she asks with a smirk.

Mia: "Oh yeah, definitely." she answers back as they both give each other matching smiles before Harrison walks in.

Harrison: "Sharon Marquette is here." he says as the two women go to stand up and walk towards the door.

Olivia: "Okay, send her in." she says as Sharon walks through the door.

Sharon: "Olivia, nice to see you again, although I wish it were under better circumstances." she goes to greet Liv.

Olivia: "Nice to see you again as well, Sharon, and we're going to handle this."

Sharon: "Thank you dear... and Mia" she goes to pull Mia into a hug, "Its been too long."

Mia: "It has. How are the grandkids?"

Sharon: "Amazing, they're just so precious. I mean just absolutely amazing. I have tons of pictures in my photo albums." she then turns to look towards both of them now. "You'll make sure they get the photo albums? They're important."

Olivia: "We will."

Mia: "And then you can show them off to everyone here, but until then I'm going to go get another cup of coffee. Sharon, do you need anything? Liv?"

Sharon: "No dear, I'm good." she responds as Liv shakes her head no, then Mia walks out of the room. A silence then falls amongst the two women causing the volume from the television to be heard clearly now.

TV: "Tomorrow is expected to be a defining moment for the Grant administration, as tenth circuit Chief Justice Patrick Keating is considered the front-runner to be named as the President's second Supreme Court judicial nominee. Keating's nomination would not come without controversy, as the more conservative members of President Grant's own party have voiced concerns over Keating's past rulings on right-to-privacy statutes."

Sharon: "You did a nice job with him. The President, getting him elected, I mean." she states as she sits down and Liv mutes the tv.

Olivia: "The American people did that."

Sharon: "Oh, honey. I followed that election. He was a diamond in the rough before you and Mia started working for him. You were responsible for that photo op with the little girl with cancer, where he played the piano."

Olivia: "The guitar."

Sharon: "You made him. Why did you leave the White House? No one leaves a job in the West Wing without a good reason." she remarks to her as Mia walks back in with her cup of coffee.

Mia: "Okay, Harrison just informed me that they're ready on line two."

Olivia: "Great... Stephen, you in?" she asks after she pushes a button on her phone while Mia and Sharon walk over to Liv's desk.

Stephen: "We're in." he tells her over the phone.

Mia: "Are they almost done? He's bound to be there soon."

Stephen: "You almost done or not?" he questions through his earpiece to Abby, who is grabbing things from Sharon's house, as Huck is getting files and wiping her computer. "They're almost out."

Sharon: "Did they get the photo albums?"

Mia/Olivia: "Stephen, the photo albums."

Stephen: "Did you get the photo albums?" he asks Abby, who then goes to get them.

Sharon: "Please get the photo albums. They're important."

Mia: "Don't worry they'll get them," she reassures Sharon. "They're good at what they do, trust us."

Stephen: "Guys, better hurry it up. Looks like we're not alone." he informs Abby and Huck, once he spots David and a few cop cars turning onto the street. "You'd better use the back door." he says to the two, over his earpiece, before David drives by and sees him, then over the phone he says, "Liv, Mia, he spotted me, which means you've got ten minutes."

Mia/Olivia: "Harrison, we've got incoming!" they shout as they go to the entrance of OPA.

~~~~~
Quinn: "I know I'm new here. I know that, but it would be so helpful if someone could tell me what's going on." she says as she stands next to Mia, Liv and Harrison as they are waiting at the entrance of the office.
Mia/Olivia: "How long's it been?"
Quinn: "Since I started working here?"
Harrison: "Eleven minutes. Maybe he's not gonna show."
Mia/Olivia: "He'll be here. Just wait."
Quinn: "Who? Who are we waiting for?" she tries to ask as David walks through the door.
David: "You know what I love about my job? I'm the good guy. The law is on my side. I am the law. The law is me. I work for justice. I uphold the constitution of these United States. I am a knight for the people." he proclaims as he's looking between Mia and Liv. "I wear the white hat, and you," he turns to Liv, "Olivia Carolyn Pope, and you," he turns to the twenty-two year old, "Mia Noelle James," he then begins looking between the two again. "are a pain in my ass. I had a search warrant for that house, but by the time I got to use it, there was nothing there, because your people took whatever there was to find."
Olivia: "Hello, David. Good to see you. Did you get a haircut? It's nice."
Mia: "Eh, I've seen better." she remarks as he glares.
David: "So very annoying," he whispers to himself before continuing, "Where is it, ladies?"
Mia/Olivia: "Where's what?"
David: "The list, ladies. I'm talking about the list and anything else in connection with the illegal business activities of that woman right there." he then points to Sharon who is sitting in the conference room.
Mia/Olivia: "We don't have any list."
Olivia: "No one in this office does."
David: "I can arrest her, you know? I have enough to arrest her right here, right now."
Olivia: "You could, but being an upholder of the constitution," she starts off as Mia then adds on.
Mia: "You'd need an arrest warrant, wouldn't you? Do you have one of those? Yeah I didn't think so."
Mia/Olivia: "My white hat's bigger than your white hat."
David: "Can you two at least pretend you aren't enjoying this?" he says as he turns to walk out of the room.
Mia: "But where's the fun in that." she says with a slight laugh.
David: "Pain in my ass," he mumbles as he walks to get on the elevator.
Quinn: "Harrison, who exactly is the lady in the conference room?" she tries to ask again, but gets ignored as the other three head into the conference room. As David is taking an elevator going down, Stephen, Abby, and Huck are riding the other one going up. The three then head into the conference room as well.
Mia/Olivia: "You get it all?"
Stephen: "All of it."
Sharon: "Th-the photo albums?"
Abby: "All of it." she states as the three carry the boxes in and set them on the table.
Stephen: "Didn't we tell you we'd take good care of you?" he asks Sharon as she nods.
Quinn: "I'm Quinn." she tells Sharon after standing to the side for a bit.
Sharon: "Oh. Sharon Marquette. Nice to meet you."
Quinn: "Can I get you anything? More tea?"
Sharon: "That's very sweet of you. Stevie, you didn't tell me you worked with so many sweet girls."
Quinn: "You know Stephen?"
Abby: "Ha." she scoffs.
Mia: "Abby," she warns.
Stephen: "Uh, we're old friends."
Abby: "That's a nice word for it, 'friends'."
Mia/Olivia: "Abby." they warn.
Abby: "Sorry. No offense. To you."
Sharon: "Oh, none taken."
Quinn: "I'm sorry. I don't... I'm new here. How do you two know each other?"
Olivia: "Quinn."
Abby: "She provides whores for him."
Mia: "Abby, really."
Sharon: "I'm D.C.'s finest madam, dear." she tells Quinn, leaving her stunned.
~~~~~

The group is in Olivia's office looking out at Sharon as Abby is presenting the case's information.

Abby: "Sharon Marquette D.C.'s one-stop shop for high-priced hookers." she says as Mia gives her a look. "Yesterday one of Sharon's newest working girls, Ginger Bell. Seriously, her real name is Ginger Bell, like her parents didn't want her to go to college, like they planned for their kid to be a hooker."

Mia: "Abby," she sighs.

Abby: "Ginger Bell got herself arrested in the lobby of the Hay-Adams. This is her booking photo. Pretty girl. You ever sleep with Ginger Bell, Stevie?"

Mia/Olivia: "Abby." they warn.

Abby: "Moving on, Ginger Bell sang like a little bird, a bird who has sex for money, the second they locked her in a cell." she continues as Mia just sighs.

~~~
The group is now around the conference table as Sharon is talking to them about what happened.
Sharon: "I don't blame Ginger. Really, I don't. It was her first night. The first night's always the hardest for a girl, you know? It's the night she learns whether or not she has what it takes. She has to put on her face and go out into the world, sit in the bar or the lobby or wherever it is they've decided to meet, and then she has to look him in the eye and know that they're both in agreement that her body is worth a certain amount of money. Of course, it's a lot of money, but it's still a transaction, and then she has to come back and show me what she made, so I know she can go out again the next night and the night after that." she tells the group as they're taking notes and Mia is analyzing her every move.
~~~

Huck: "I wiped her home computer, and I just searched the copy I made, and there's nothing there no names, no dates, no tax returns." he says as they all reconvene in Liv's office.

Olivia: "David thinks there is a client list, and if there is one, we need it. We may not need to use it, but we need to know who's on it. We can't do anything for Sharon until we know the landscape, and the landscape starts with that list."

Mia: "Someone like Sharon, who's been in the business for a while is definitely going to have list. The only question is where? Computer would be the obvious guess, but—"

Huck: "Well, there were no records I could see. There was nothing encrypted." he states as Mia is watching Sharon looking at her photos albums.

Quinn: "Does someone like Sharon even keep records?"

Mia: "Definitely and I think I know where they may be." she says with a smirk.

~~~
Sharon: "And that's Mason And that's Aiden in the frog costume. Aren't they adorable? And my daughter says they're testing well above grade level." she proudly mentions as the group is back around the conference table.
Harrison: "Okay, ma'am, I'm sure your grandkids are great and all, but," he tries to state as Mia and Liv give him a look, "Um, sorry."
Sharon: "No, you're right. I enjoy showing them off, but what you really want to see is back here." she tells them as she flips to the back of the album to remove the felt on the inside of the back cover.
Sharon: "I have them going all the way back to 1986."
Mia: "They're truly adorable." she whispers to Sharon with a smile, "And photo albums, as a hiding spot, creative."
Sharon: "Thank you, dear." she responds back with a matching smile.
Olivia: "A girl's first name, a date, an amount, and a number."
Harrison: "No Johns?"
Stephen: "Ten digits?"
Mia: "Telephone numbers."
Huck: "You're good."
Sharon: "I try."
~~~

In Huck's office, Abby is standing over his shoulder as he continues typing on his computer.

Huck: "Phone numbers are perfect. Put 'em in a public records database, and it's as good as a name, maybe better. Type in a number and I get every man who purchased one of Sharon's girls. His name, his photo, his address, how much he weighs, and if he's an organ donor."

~~~
In the conference room, the team is putting up clients from the list on the board.
Abby: "I'm being thorough." she says after she slaps Stephen's picture up there next to the rest, as Mia chuckles and Stephen gives her a slight glare before playfully shoving the twenty-two year old.
~~~~~

Quinn is standing at her desk looking through files when Mia comes up to her.

Mia: "Amanda Tanner, I need you to go to the hospital and check on her."

Quinn: "Why? I'm helping with the madam case." she says with slight confusion, as Olivia walks over to them.

Mia: "Beca—" she starts before Liv cuts her off.

Olivia: "Because she said too. Amanda Tanner, go look after her at the hospital." she directs her as Mia internally sighs.

Quinn: "I can help with the madam case. I know I'm new here, and you maybe don't think I'm ready, but I want to be useful." she says while facing Liv.

Mia/Olivia: "You are being useful, by checking on Amanda Tanner."

Quinn: "Well, I just, I mean, you said yourself, she's just a girl telling lies about the President, and she's not going to anymore. She's not going to talk to anybody. You both put a stop to that, so why is she so important? Look, I'm just saying, I'm a lawyer, too, and I can do more than get coffee and babysit Amanda Tanner."

Mia: "Don't ask questions. Just go." she instructs her as Quinn goes to walk away with a sigh before heading to the hospital. Mia then turns to Olivia. "Really? You said that you would let me take care of that."

Olivia: "Yes I did, but we were running short on time. You know very well that the longer she spent arguing with you about it, the more likely that some reporter could have shown up at the hospital."

Mia: "We weren't arguing."

Olivia: "Not yet, but it could have become one." she pauses and looks at her with a smirk. "You're smart, you'll think of another way to get your authority across." the two then head into the conference room. The group minus Quinn, are standing looking at the board with all of the powerful and influential people on it.

Abby: "This is why I don't date."

Harrison: "This is why I don't trust politicians."

Stephen: "Yeah, it's a 'who's who' of Washington." he says as Mia focuses in on one of the pictures of Patrick Keating.

Mia: "Shit." she mutters.

Olivia: "No wonder the U.S. attorney wants to get his hands on this list."

Mia: "Liv," she points to the picture of Keating.

Olivia: "Damn it." she sighs as the two go to grab their jackets.

Stephen: "Liv, Mimi?" he questions.

Mia/Olivia: "We gotta go." they say as they both walk out of the room.

Harrison: "Who's Patrick Keating?" he asks looking at the photo the two were just referring to.

Stephen: "Well, right now he's no one, but in about ten minutes, he's gonna be the President's Supreme Court nominee."

~~~~~
WHITE HOUSE
Mia and Liv are walking towards the security gate at the White House to get checked in as Olivia is on the phone.
Mia: "I can't believe this, I suggested him. He was my pick. I can't believe I mis—" she starts rambling before Liv stops her.
Olivia: "Mia, you know I love you, but shut up." she tells her before going back to talking to Stephen on the phone. "No, listen, it's gonna take at least a couple of hours for David to get that arrest warrant. Don't give up that list for any reason. Okay. We'll be back as soon as we can." the two arrive at the entrance gate where Morris, the White House security guard, is checking people in.
Mia/Olivia: "Morning, Morris." they greet.
Morris: "Sorry, Ms. Pope, but you aren't cleared."
Olivia: "Wh-when have I ever not been cleared?"
Morris: "Never, till today."
Mia: "Well, she can come in with me then."
Morris: "You're not cleared either, Dr. James."
Mia/Olivia: "What?" they both asked confused.
Morris: "Let me see what I can... I'm supposed to take your hard passes." he informs them after he checks his computer.
Olivia: "We're denied?"
Mia: "Morris, you know us?" she pleads, while her and Liv hand over their passes and as Billy Chambers, the Vice President's Chief of Staff, walks up to the three.
Morris: "Look, I'm sorry. You both could still come in if you had an appointment, but you—"
Billy: "Is there a problem? Because they make 'em go away for a living, and they're very good."
Morris: "Ms. Pope and Dr. James are not on the list, sir."
Billy: "What did you two do now?"
Mia/Olivia: "Don't ask."
Mia: "Can you get us in? We need to talk to Cyrus."
Billy: "They can come in with me. I'll vouch for them."
Morris: "I'm sorry, but they need an appointment, or else I can't let them in."
Billy: "What's your extension, Morris?" he asks as he pulls out his phone and starts dialing.
Morris: "3838. Why?"
Billy: "Hang on." he says as Morris' phone starts to ring, "Okay. Answer it."
Morris: "Hello." he responds after he picks the phone up.
Billy: "Hi. This is Billy Chambers, the Vice President's Chief of Staff. I need walk-on passes for Miss Olivia Pope and Doctor Mia James." he says over the phone as Morris hands them walk-on passes. "Thank you, Morris."
Mia/Olivia: "Thank you. Thank you." they say, thanking the two men.
Billy: "So what's up?" he asks the two as the three of them start to head into the White House.
Mia/Olivia: "You're gonna want to hear this."
~~~~~

Mia, Olivia, and Billy are standing with Cyrus, in his office, discussing Keating and his nomination.

Cyrus: "This was our guy. Mia and you chose this guy. He was your pick. Ladies, you loved this guy." he says as Mia sighs to herself, "The President loves this guy. He's Clarence Darrow for the 21st century. When he's not writing opinions for the tenth circuit, he herds cattle on his ranch in Wyoming. He's flawless. You know how I know? We vetted him, and we found nothing. The man is a saint, which is why the President stood in front of the press and nominated him to the highest court in the land."

Mia/Olivia: "Which we could have stopped, if you hadn't cut off our access."

Cyrus: "You know why I cut off your access." he says more focused on Liv.

Mia: "What about mine?" she mumbles.

Cyrus: "You know why." he states to her, causing the twenty-two year old to be quiet.

Olivia: "He's on the list, Cyrus."

Cyrus: "How did you miss this?" he questions Billy.

Billy: "I didn't. They're wrong. Keating's a boy scout."

Mia: "Oh, come on. You and the V.P. should be thrilled. Keating's always been too far left for the Republican base."

Billy: "Personally, yeah, he wouldn't be my choice, but I'm a team player, Mi, and so is the V.P. The manager asks you to put a guy in, you put him in."

Mia: "You can't put Keating in." she loudly sighs.

Olivia: "23 years ago, Patrick Keating slept with a high-end hooker."

Billy: "Maybe we'll be fine."

Mia: "More than once!" she exclaims. "Now I may not care, but the American people certainly will. And you don't need statistics to know that a majority of Americans won't like the idea of someone who slept with a call girl being in charge of judicial decisions."

Billy: "Maybe we'll be fine. Confirmation hearings are in two weeks, four tops. Maybe this won't come out." he responds back as Mia scoffs.

Olivia: "It's a dirty little secret, and dirty little secrets always come out, don't they, Cyrus?"

Cyrus: "Billy, give us a minute."

Olivia: "No. No, no. No need. We're going, but you need to get yourself a backup nominee." she says before walking out with Mia at her side.

Billy: "Since when are you on opposite sides with those two. They're one of us."

Cyrus: "Fix the Keating thing. Now." he says as the two walk out of the office and Cyrus pulls Mia back into the office. "Mia!"

Mia: "What? Is this about why you cut off my access?"

Cyrus: "You can't go telling him off, he's the Pres—"

Mia: "And she's my best friend. I will go to the ends of the earth for that woman and if that means telling the most powerful man in the world to stay the hell away from her, then I will... how'd you find out anyways? Knowing him, I didn't think he would want to admit that he let a twenty-two year old tell him off."

Cyrus: "A few aids were talking about your recent visit, then I checked the time when you came in, and low and behold it was right after I came to see you the other night to talk about Liv." she goes to respond back but gets interrupted.

Olivia: "Mia! Let's go!" she yells in the direction of Cyrus's office causing Mia to turn and walk away.

~~~~~
OPA
Stephen and Harrison are sitting on one side of the conference table while Huck and Abby are sitting on the other as the group is going through files of the men on the list.
Abby: "Hey, I don't understand half of this. Is this some kind of code? What does 'hardwood floors' mean? Stephen?"
Stephen: "Why would you think that I would know?"
Abby: "Because you frequent whores."
Stephen: "I do not frequent... fine. You want to know what it means? It means there's no carpeting."
Abby: "Oh."
Harrison: "To match the, uh, drapes." he adds on to Stephen's comment. Then Mia walks into the conference room to see where they're at, as she's taking a sip from a chocolate shake.
Abby: "Oh. And, uh, what about, uh, 'sunny day'?"
Mia: "'Sunny day' means that they don't have to where a raincoat aka a condom" she answers as Harrison and Huck give her a strange look.
Abby: "And all of the languages these girls speak, those are all things?"
Mia: "Yep."
Stephen: "Yes, those are all things."
Abby: "So all of these girls are not actually fluent in Greek?"
Mia: "Nope." Abby looks at the papers again before focusing on Mia.
Abby: "And how do you know this?" she questions as Mia is sitting down at the head of the conference table between Harrison and Huck as the two also look at her curiously.
Mia: "I did a dissertation on call girls for one of my doctorates. Like, why they do what they do." she says before taking another sip from her drink. "How do you think I knew Sharon, so well?"
Abby: "Uhh..." she mumbles out, a little speechless at the new information, she then turns to Stephen. "Did you know that?"
Stephen: "How do think I got Sharon's information?" he responds under his breath, continuing to leave Abby at a lost for words while the other two men start to laugh quietly where as Mia lets out a loud chuckle.
Abby: "Wait, what degree did you do a dissertation on hookers for?" she turns back to Mia.
Mia: "Call girls. They don't generally like the term 'hookers'. Brings a certain negativity to what they do. And to answer your question, women's studies."
Olivia: "Where are we?" she asks the group from her office.
Huck: "Almost done with the list of names."
Olivia: "Any word from the U.S. attorney?" she questions as she walks into the room.
Stephen: "Nothing. Maybe he couldn't get a warrant."
Police: "Police! Open up!"
Mia/Olivia: "He got a warrant." they say before the group gets up from the table and begins heading off in different directions. Stephen goes to find Sharon, while Liv and Mia go to answer the door, with the other three slowly following them.
David: "Where's my madam?" he asks the second the door gets opened with him handing Olivia a warrant, which she then passes to Huck.
Mia: "Come on, David."
Olivia: "You're after Sharon Marquette for the publicity and for getting your name in the paper and for upping your shot at Attorney General the next time there's a democrat in office."
David: "I'm after Sharon Marquette because she's a criminal. Are you two seriously the patron saints of streetwalkers now? Bring her out, or I'll go in to get her." he then goes to poke Liv.
Huck: "Do not touch her." he warns making David stop in his tracks.
Mia: "Harrison! Go downstairs and make sure we don't have any press waiting to give David a photo op." she instructs him while continuing to stare down David.
Harrison: "On it."
David: "The madam, ladies. Now."
Olivia: "Abby! Get Sharon and Stephen." she directs while also continuing to stare David down, while Olivia's phone starts to ring and she hands it to Mia. "It's Quinn, take care of it." she tells her.
Mia: "What? Did you get a name?" she asks after answering the phone.
Quinn: "Oh, I'm sorry I thought I called Olivia." she responds back as she looks to see if she called the correct person.
Mia: "Quinn. Name. Now." she demands.
Quinn: "Gideon. His name was Gideon Wallace, and he writes for the 'Sun'."
Mia: "Hold on." she tells Quinn as Sharon is walking out to David. She then tells Sharon, "Don't say anything to anyone."
Olivia: "I want a private holding cell, no gen pop, and recently cleaned." she states as they begin to handcuff Sharon. "Handcuffs? Because the nice grandma is so dangerous."
Mia: "Quinn, you do not leave her side. You do not eat. You do not sleep. She doesn't leave your sight. Do you understand?" she informs Quinn over the phone as Liv handles Sharon and David.
Quinn: "Yes. Yes, I understand." she says before Mia hangs up. Stephen is walking Sharon to the elevators as Harrison walks back into the office with news.
Stephen: "We'll get you out in no time."
Sharon: "Thank you, dear." she says back before the elevator doors close and Stephen walks back to the group.
Harrison: "No press, but Patrick Keating and his wife are in the lobby with Billy Chambers. They're on their way up. Olivia, Mia?" he informs the two leaving them shocked and quiet for a moment.
Mia/Olivia: "We're thinking." they then share a look before looking to the group.
Olivia: "Harrison, put Patrick Keating in an office far away from the board." she directs him.
Mia: "Stephen, let's go get Sharon out of jail." she tells him.
Olivia: "Abby, you're with me." she informs her.
Mia: "And Huck, find out who the hell Gideon Wallace is." she instructs him.
Olivia: "All cylinders, people!" she shouts as her and Abby are heading to her office.
Mia: "Let's move!" she continues as her and Stephen head out to go get Sharon released.
