Right Priorities

What are your priorities? If you're like me, it would be to make sure to have enough money in the bank for bills. That means I can't spend all my money how my flesh wants me to. I have to be responsible with my earnings and keep my flesh under control.

It can be hard, especially if you find things you really want to have.

You need to have your priorities right when it comes to God as well. God wants us to study our Bible and stay close to Him, so stay in God's Word!

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
Matthew 6:33

For those just starting this walk with the Lord, it can feel like entering a brand new land. An unexplored, flourishing land that promises God's goodness for you.

But a warning to all Christians, new and old: There is a difference between professing God's promise and possessing God's promise. We may claim to be a Christian, yet never get rid of the old, sinful habits. We may still base our decisions on what draws attention to ourselves rather than what gives credit to God. It is one thing to be offered this free gift of new life; it is another to possess it. There should be no other idol in your life but God.

We are warned to not neglect what God has given. It is a costly mistake to disregard or misplace our priorities. Like a splinter, sin causes pain.

So flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.
2 Timothy 2:22

People are worried about appearances. It's a hard habit to get out of your mind. Some Christians may worry about how they appear to others. They want to attend Christian events, they want to wear the "right" duds, etc. But by focusing on the showy details, we miss the simple truth: live each day being close to God.

Your priority isn't wearing the "right" thing or listening to the "right" band of music. Your utmost priority is staying in the Lord's presence. Learning more about Him and studying His word so that you remain rooted.

Don't be distracted by glamour, God wants your sight on Him.

To grow in faith, you need to get to know God. It is time spent with him - reading the Bible and praying - that gives you the basics. Other Christian activities become effective only when they express that relationship you are developing with God.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
Philippians 4:6-8

What interests you? Do you go to school to become something you're good at? Are you called to be in that field by God?

Sometimes it's hard for people to decide what they want to go for in life. They wander, and others offer up what they think will be best. God's plan for you is the perfect plan.

The world offers limitless possibilities for you to pursue, but we must remember our priority to God first and foremost. What He has planned in your life is what will be best for you.

Ask yourself: What are your priorities focused on right now?

Lord, I want to thank you for being there for me. Help me, Lord, to get my priorities straight. That I put no other before you. That I keep my sights on you, and always stay close to you. Amen.

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Romans 12:2
