WOO DEMONIC FERRETS

I'M PUMPED UP FOR NO REASON AND JUST SPENT LIKE AN HOUR WRITING A BIO FOR A NEW CHARACTER WOOHOO

Ahem.

So yeah, I have a cool and shiny new character now. I haven't done any art of it (yet) but I'm too excited not to post anything so I'll just show you guys what I wrote. Everybody say your first hello to Spook.

Spook is a supernatural being of unknown origin. It is inspired by the legend of Gef, the Dalby Spook (which is the namesake) that supposedly haunted a farmhouse and talked to the residents. It's a kinda cool cryptid. If you want to learn about it, go to the Wikipedia page here: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gef# It is also inspired by the Lemon Demon song "Eighth Wonder" (which is about Gef) and I happen to mcfrickin' love the crap out of that song. (I'm on a huge Lemon Demon kick right now whoops) Anyways, LISTEN TO THAT SONG!

Hhhhhhhhhhhh I have fallen hard and fast in love. This is also Spook's honorary theme song, if you wanted to know.

So, Spook.

Appearance: While Spook has never been fully viewed by humans, (only small glimpses and constructive sketches are available) it can be viewed in part or through mirrors, although attempts to have it still for long enough to get a good look have all failed. From what has been gathered, Spook is generally shaped and sized like a weasel and has a large bottlebrush tail. It has pointy, tufted ears, sharp teeth, and very humanlike hands. Lastly, it is rumoured to have three eyes with slitted pupils. They have never been directly viewed because this creature seems to have the gorgon-like power of petrification upon its gaze. The fur of Spook is mostly dull yellow, with small grape purple accents. These accents are located on the tip of its tail and a ring below that, two rings on each leg, and the tips of its ears.

Behaviour: Spook has been spotted in many rural houses across the countryside of Britain. Its presence is usually first noticed in scratching and scurrying sounds in the walls, followed by indecipherable whispers. Spook then advances to making strange sounds and playing mind games with the residents of whatever home it is in, mimicking voices to call people into rooms, misplacing small items, and generally being a nuisance. If you have noticed such occurrences in your home, it is imperative you act normally. It will be over shortly if you do not acknowledge the creature's existence, as it seems to find its pursuits boring if it gains no reactions.
In all cases where the residents of the home have tried to contact Spook or admit that something truly isn't right (as opposed to general declarations of confusion, e.g. "I swore I left that there!") the creature becomes brazen and even dangerous, mischief turning to mayhem. This behaviour commonly begins with three loud taps on the wall of wherever the most family members are. Spook announces itself as "The Eighth Wonder of the World" and makes claims of what it is and can do, frequently highlighting the fact that it is "powerful beyond imagination", "an incomprehensible freak", and that it can and will "mummify my perusers". At this point, Spook begins to cause real trouble. It will steal from the residents, cause property damage, and even attack household pets and frighten young children. The only upside to this activity is that after it announces itself, Spook is usually open to conversation and seems to enjoy answering questions and riddles. Some households that were previously haunted actually managed to lessen the demon's blow through conversation, asking if they could barter for it to leave or provide it with what it might want. This can go on for days, weeks, or even months, but will stop suddenly once Spook decides that it would like to move on.

Personality: Based on how it is heard moving throughout houses and the high speed at which it talks, Spook is easily labeled as energetic and hyperactive, even being kind of playful in the first stages of a haunt. Spook is described as being extroverted and talkative once contact is made with it, happily answering questions and being open to barter from the residents for a few days of peace. However, it is extremely unstable and it is recommended by most researchers of the creature not to trust anything that it may say. It is very deceiving and mischievous. It also appears to be very intelligent, avoiding any and all traps that have been set for it. In fact, it is recorded as saying "I am no rat, I know a trap for me when one is set."
The creature is reportedly a fan of riddles and mindteasers, and can apparently be easily occupied with one. Spook seems to have such a large fascination with the like that it has recently taken to asking the residents of its haunt if they would like to give it a riddle in exchange for their preservation, like a reverse of a Sphynx. This is reportedly risky behaviour, as although it will leave you well alone if it enjoyed your riddle, it has been recorded as becoming even more dangerous and closing off from conversation if it didn't like the selected teaser.

Powers: Supernatural beings like Spook usually display a few paranormal powers, and this creature is no exception. Most famously are the powers within its three eyes. It is apparent that anyone who sights them or gazes into them is immediately petrified.
The first recorded incident of this is with a man named John Clark, who was a carpenter that lived with his wife, Sarah Clark-Whitney, in a small country house in 1945. The couple had reportedly just been married the previous week when Spook moved into their house. Supposedly thinking the scratching noises in the wall to be a possible infestation of rats, which the house had had in the past, Clark opened a vent to lay traps while his wife went out briefly to tend to the vegetables they were growing in the garden. When Clark-Whitney came back into the house to wash her hands and sit down with her husband, she was horrified by the sight of him hanging halfway through the kitchen vent. She is quoted as saying, "I returned to the sight of my beloved John's legs hanging stiffly out of the kitchen ceiling. The horror I felt! I called his name, but he didn't reply, so I went to shake him down. He couldn't be budged!" When the local police came to investigate the incident, they originally suspected foul play by Sarah. However, they were not able to find any evidence in that direction. All that was recovered was a few sprung traps on the floor (later found to be sprung accidentally by Clark's wife) and a few traces of unidentifiable yellow fur, suspected to belong to Spook. At the request of his wife, Clark's body was later examined. It was found that his muscles had actually been solidified into a strange mixture of granite and salt. Similar incidents have occurred across Britain over the years, and every examined specimen is noted to have the same granite/salt mixture in their body.
This does not end the powers of Spook. It also has an amazing capability for mimicking and throwing voices, usually using this to its advantage. The creature will commonly spend a few days memorizing one voice, then shouting or calling into in an empty room with it. Any other residents often come towards the source, only to find nothing. While Spook finds this hilarious, it also uses this to gather everyone into one place while it take whatever it wants from the other abandoned rooms.
Lastly, Spook appears to be incredibly fast. It has been recorded as crossing a house in under thirty seconds. While it does not move much in the day, it runs all over during the night, making sleep difficult to obtain in the progress.

Extermination: While it has been investigated into, the possibility of traditionally exterminating Spook seems to be very dim. It has proven itself too smart for traps (as mentioned above) and its powers prevent it from being hunted down in person. It is also unknown if it can be killed. It is speculated that it can be starved to death, but it does not enter homes without food or residents, so the chances of actually pulling that off are slim as well. Some investigators have attempted to poison it, but only one has succeeded and the result was non-fatal.
The poisoning was performed by professor Maxwell Wadsworth in 1972, at the home of the Duncan family. Prof. Wadsworth, then 66, was reportedly a close family friend and was called upon by the family to help get rid of their problem with the creature. Prof. Wadsworth noticed how the family was keeping it pacified by slipping it small portions of meat, and suggested placing a small amount of rat poison on the next offering. That exact procedure was carried out later that evening at 6 o'clock. Spook was apparently affected by the poison, as the creature apparently became sick and stopped moving as much for around a week before activity stopped in that house all together. The Duncans celebrated, thinking that they had killed the infamous pest. However, it was sighted later in a house a few towns over and was apparently mostly recovered. The family in that residence attempted to feed it a few scraps and even tried to poison it as well with a higher dosage, but Spook outright refused to take the food and soon left.
There is only one remaining known thing that Spook has an aversion to, and that is salt. It is suspected that the creature may be demonic in some way due to this. While this unfortunately cannot be used to repel Spook once it has entered your home, it can be used to keep it from ever entering. Spook has a pattern of entering homes with lots of food and/or possessions, and often selects one or two per town or village to live in. If there have been reports of Spook in or around your town, the solution is simple. All you must do is line your main door and chimney with salt and the creature will not come calling.

That's all. Kudos if you actually read it all. I know I wouldn't. I'm really pumped about this new character, so I'm definitely gonna edit this chapter to let you know when I post this in my artbook with a ref.

UPDATE: Spook's ref is out in my artbook! Go look, it turned out so well!
