AOS/TOS/SNW. Spock - Fireplace

A/N: This can be read as being any version of Spock!

"Are you sure it is safe to have a fire going indoors?" Spock inquired, watching carefully as you worked on initiating the fire in the fireplace. The two of you were staying in a cabin on Earth for a week for some R&R and you had insisted on going somewhere cold so Spock could experience winter. You'd always loved winter and you wanted to share your love for it with the man you loved most.

You smiled. "Yes. It's very safe. It's contained, and the area around it isn't flammable."

"I still do not understand why we are not using electric heating," he mused.

"Because having a fire going in the fireplace sets the mood," you replied. "And it smells nice."

Spock shook his head slightly. "Why humans insist on using old-fashioned techniques for various practices is beyond me."

You shrugged and went to sit with him in the big armchair. "Just because something is old-fashioned doesn't mean it's not still worth doing."

Spock wrapped the fuzzy blanket around your legs as you snuggled against his side. "I will admit, the lighting that the fire provides is satisfying."

"That's the spirit," you said with a small laugh. "The heat is on, you know. It's just not up as high as it could be. But if you get cold, we can turn it up."

"I am an adequate temperature, especially now that you are here sitting with me." He smiled faintly.

You smiled back at him and kissed his cheek. "Well, if our shared body heat isn't enough to keep you warm, let me know and I'll turn up the heat."

Spock's eyes glimmered with something that resembled mischief. "Should I get cold, I can think of something we could do to warm up instead of turning up the heat."

You laughed. "My God, Spock. First day of vacation and you're already thinking about sex? Wow, you really did need a break."

He smiled, amused. "I had heard that line used in several old Earth films and novels. I thought I would use it and see your reaction. It proved to be amusing."

You laughed again and shook your head. "Let's just enjoy the fire for now and see where the night takes us."

Spock wrapped his arm around your shoulders and kissed your forehead. "That sounds enjoyable."

The two of you sat in silence, enjoying the sound of the logs crackling in the fireplace, the smell of the burning wood, and the feel of your bodies pressed against each other. It was difficult to truly get alone time on the Enterprise. Sure, if you were both off duty you could spend time together, but with the unpredictable nature of the mission, and people stopping by your quarters, it was hard at times to just enjoy each other's company without having to worry about anything else. The captain knew that, and when he realized that you both had some leave accumulated, he insisted you both take a well-deserved break.

"So what do you think of winter so far?" you asked after a while of quiet cuddling.

"It is aesthetically pleasing," Spock replied, glancing out the window where a gentle snowfall was flittering through the air. The setting sun cast an orange hue over the landscape, matching the light emitting from the fireplace.

You smiled, sighing contently. "It sure it pretty."

"Thank you for suggesting we come here," he said. "I am looking forward to experiencing various winter activities with you."

You grinned, thinking about long list of plans you had for the two of you. "Me too. It'll be nice to just relax and see you let loose. You work so hard, Spock, and you always stay so professional. You really do deserve this vacation."

"As do you, Y/N," he said, gently cupping your face with his hand. "You are one of the hardest-working people I know. If anyone deserves a vacation, it is you."

You leaned into his hand. "I'm glad we could take this vacation together."

Spock kissed your lips softly. "As am I."
