Edward didn't know what to expect. Jasper saw him, narrowed his eyes and just walked out. He knew that Jasper was going to Alex and it was only a matter of time before the spicy girl would walk inside and beat the shit out of him. Emmett laughed and even Rosalie chuckled at the thought. Edward however was a little concerned. She could do serious damage.

Alex had dreamed about hitting Edward ever since he left but the moment she saw him, there was nothing she could do but just hug him. She wasn't that much of a hugger and the whole Cullen family knew. She only hugged her brother and Jasper, but the latter was only when there was no one around.

Everyone in the Cullen family was flabbergasted. This was the exact opposite of what they had anticipated and they didn't know what to do. They were still tense, hoping to stop the girl if she wanted to beat up Edward but Edward sighed in relief and wrapped his arms around the girl.

They let go of one another. "Hey." Edward awkwardly says. She narrows her eyes and punches his arm. Vampires couldn't get bruises but they could feel and he felt as if she had broken his arm.

"You go and leave me and come back with hey? I could've done worse." She mutters the last part. "Glad you're back."

"You didn't really miss much." Emmett says with a shrug.

"Though I finally found out that Lex has feelings." Alex' eyes widen as she turns to her boyfriend. "Yeah, she was crying earlier." One by one they start to look at her.

"Jasper." Everyone ignores her warning.

"Why were you crying?" Emmett furrows his eyebrows in concern. Suddenly Alex looked around and noticed that the golden parents were missing, together with Alice.

"She was watching Dumbo." Laughter erupts but Alex feels a few arms wrap around her as she tries to charge at Jasper, keeping her from running after the man she had told to keep quiet.

Edward and Alex walk through the forrest. The same path that they had crossed a few times before and where they got to know one another better.

"I'm glad you're back." Alex says and Edward snorts. "No really, the rest are all so happy. I need some gloomy around me." Edward shoves her to the side but chuckles along. "Why'd you go?"

"I don't want to kill her." He simply says.

"Same here." Alex raises her hand and looks at him with a duh-face. He purses his lips and looks forward, trying to find the right words.

"I thought that I could do it. Try to be human." Alex looks over at him and narrows her eyes.

"You thought that with the years your humanity would grow stronger and you'd almost be human again." Alex says as she observes the bronze haired vampire. "I'm sorry to say that it is not. It is only when you find your mate, that your humanity is at its peak."

It is his time to narrow his eyes and look at the young woman in front of him. A small smile graces his lips as he remembers how they had grown together. He had thought her to be the enemy, to be wise upon her years.

"What are you smiling about?"

"Just thinking of our friendship." He replies and Alex looks over to him with sparkling eyes. She didn't make friends often and more than not, they happened to be the wrong kind.

"Ooooh," she sing songs. "Don't go soft on me now."

"I thought you were supposed to be the old and wise one." She gasps.

"Who are you calling old, grandpa." She grabs a cigarette from her pocket and lights it while looking around. "What are we going to do?" She sighs and let's herself drop to the ground. Edward smiles at her and sits in front of her, both of them lost in their own thoughts. It hadn't taken long for Carlisle to understand what exactly was happening. Besides being his bloodsinger, Bella appeared to be his mate. Though he was glad to have finally found her, her being human was the exact opposite of him finding relief of his empty life.

"She's my mate." Alex frowns and looks at him with a questioning look. "We talked about it before I left. You see, I really want to drink her blood but I also really don't want to hurt her. Emmett has had multiple bloodsingers, but he didn't hesitate."

"Were you vegetarians back then?" Edward shakes his head. "Well then it's just because you are all trying love as humans, isn't it?" He shakes his head and looks at her with sorrow.

"Jasper recognized the feeling." A small burst of happiness grows in her chest at hearing these words. "Both the thirst and the protection." Alex sighs before getting up.

"So what are you going to do about it?" Edward shakes his head before wrapping an arm around Alex. They start walking and this time its his turn to sigh.

"I really don't know."
