Chapter 35

5 Months Later

"Can you take care of Elentiya today? I need to run over to the market for a bit," Rowan said to Lysandra.

"Yeah of course I would love too," she said taking Elentiya into her arms.

It had been five months. Five months since that day. The day Elentiya was born, the day Rowan's life changed and so did his court.

Rowan's daughter just smiled at Rowan as he waved to her and said goodbye.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~He had preparations to make. And for that he would be giving Terrasen's Royal Theatre a visit today.
The air gave his breath leeway across his bare face as he walked through the golden doors of the place, smiling and nodding at everyone who bowed and murmured, "Your Majesty".
Until Madame Florine smiled at him.
Then Rowan's smile faltered.
"It's you isn't it?" Rowan breathed.
She nodded and took his hands in hers, "I know what I have to do, Your Majesty."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Earlier this morning Lysandra was telling Rowan about Aelin's stay at the Assassin's Guild in attempt to gain that last bit of knowledge that he had yet to learn.

It was a mere coincidence that Madame Florine had just joined Terrasen's Theatre a few months ago.

"Why are you asking this?" Lysandra whispered as Elentiya slept in Rowan's arms.

"For her," He replied, looking down at his-their daughter, "Everything for her."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Five months ago
Rowan thought he knew hell when Aelin was captured.
But that was nothing compared to now.
Aedion, Gods bless him, took Elentiya from Rowan's arms through his own silent tears as Rowan went to kneel besides Aelin.
He wanted to scream. He wanted to grab the three Wyrdkeys from the Lock and open the gate for her to walk back through.
But when the King of Terrasen opened his mouth, only tears fell.
He stroked back her hair.
No, he shot down through the faint mating bond that was only flickering now.
This isn't how you leave.
"Come back," he whispered in her ear.
Come back.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"I want the song of Terrasen and of Eyllwe," Rowan said to Madame Florine.

"Of course," she replied.

Just then a tall male figure slipped through the open door, Aedion.

"What's going on?" he asked Rowan raising his eyebrows.

"You'll see."

The Queen

"You've done well child," Elena said.

Aelin just shook her head.

"Heir of Fire, you have done your job, you can live in eternal peace now," Elena whispered.

"I have a daughter," Aelin rasped. "Please."

Elena smiled sadly at her.

"Please just-"

Then she heard it. His voice.

This isn't how you leave...

She broke down into tears.

Come back...

She looked up to find Elena smiling at her, offering her a hand.

And this time when Aelin took it, her hand didn't fall through.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The King
He hadn't left her side for a while.
He just stared at her eyes.
"I love you," Rowan whispered again and again. However much it took to bring her back.
"Rowan Elentiya needs a parent," Lysandra rubbed her hand on his back.
"I'll be there," he said quietly.
He looked at her hand and took in in his, bringing up to his lips for a kiss.
But when he turned back to look at her eyes.
They were open.
The Night of Aelin's Birthday
"Don't open your eyes yet," Rowan said, holding her hand leading her to the front seat at the Theatre.
"I'm not going too, Buzzard," Aelin growled.
Rowan kissed her on the cheek as he helped her sit down.
"Open," he whispered on her neck.
She felt his canines on her neck as she opened her eyes to the men and women dressed in green dancing across the stage.
Her eyes teared up as she saw Madame Florine at the front.
"You did this?" she asked Rowan.
"All of it. For you."
She took his face in her hands as he said, "Happy Birthday, Fireheart."
Before she kissed him, she looked in him in his pine-green eyes and said,
"I can't wait for eternity with you."
