Chapter 1

She kept walking, through that forest no matter the searing pain in her foot. She hadn't let Lorcan brace it ever since he let her queen fall into that trap.

It had been five months since Aelin was locked into that iron coffin. Five months since Elide had heard her Queen's voice. The Queen who gave her life so that the Lady of Perranth may walk free.

Elide knew she had to get her Queen back, for Lysandra could not live the rest of her life in a skin but her own. For Aedion did not pull his leg from Death's grip just to have his cousin ripped away from him. For Rowan could not let his wife, his mate, his Fireheart go.

She didn't know how to talk to Rowan. She didn't know how to cope with the fact that she was the reason his heart is in shambles right now. So she walked behind him next to Lorcan. From the corner of her eye she could see Lorcan staring at her, something he found himself doing a lot these past few months.

I wanted to go to Perranth with you. Fool, fool was what she called herself. For leading Aelin's hunter to her, for risking her Queen's life. A fool for thinking that happiness didn't have a price.

But a dreamer for wanting to bring her Queen back to her kingdom.
