Acid Fog -5-

    Yet again I found myself walking through the forest. Looking for some red seaweed that may or may not be in a river Clarke was leading us to. I looked at the damp trees. Small water droplets fell down onto the soil beneath them. How could something so pretty be so dangerous.

    We walked into a clearing from the thick trees. A small creek could be seen just in-front the clearing. The water was still, it looked like the perfect environment for seaweed. Wells spoke up from behind me, Clarke and Fin.

    "How big was that thing that got Octavia"? Wells asked to Fin.

    "Pretty big, we could use this to make some sort of net to pull it in." Fin held up the parachute in his hands as he answered Wells's question.

    Suddenly without thinking Clarke walked into the water and grabbed the seaweed. My eyes went wide as she did this.

    "Or we could just do that."

    Fin was cut of by a sonorous sound, almost like a horn. In the blink of an eye all the birds were flying from the right sides of the trees, and a yellow fog was emitting from in-front us.

    "What is that?" I questioned as it came closer to us.

    "I don't know but we should run."

    We turned around and ran faster than our legs could take us. With every stride I heard the pounding of my boots on the hard soil below me.

    Fin's boot made a solid impact on what sounded like metal.

    "Wait, stop." He hurriedly spoke.

    I heard the rustling of leaves as I watched the fog approach us. I turned as a shrill squealing intruded my ears.

    Everyone hurried into the auto mobile. I took Wells's hand to help me in. A burning sensation erupted on my back. I let out a piercing screen as I was pulled into the auto mobile.

    "Kayleigh!" Clarke yelled as my scream was heard through the small and crowded space.

    I sat down beside Wells as I tried to catch my breath.  I looked up at Clarke worry evident in her face.

    "I'm going to need to take a look at that when we get back to camp."

    "I'm fine Clarke." I don't need her taking care of me.

    "I know you only let your mother help you, but you need to trust me."

    "Don't you dare bring my mother into this, I don't need your help." I yelled. I turned over and looked at the wall. Ignoring the pleads from my companions. I shut my eyes as I lay there a tear rolled down my cheek as i thought about my mother. I missed her. I slowly drifted into a dreamless sleep filled with thoughts of my mother.

    I awoke to Wells shaking me.

    "Come on Kay, the fog has cleared." He whispered in a soothing tone.

    "Okay I'll be out in a second." I heard him rise and leave the auto mobile before I got up. I reached my hands up pulling on apart of the car to assist myself up. The fresh air hit my nose as arose into the sunlight.

    "Before I could even speak Clarke was hurrying us back to camp. My friendship with Clarke was tearing, I didn't know if she thought the same but I knew it was true.

~~~
    Once back at camp I wondered off into the woods. The thought of grounders didn't really scare me, they were just like us, survivors. I walked to a small pond. I took off my boots and let my feet dangle in the pond. Before taking off my clothes and washing my acid stained back. I hissed as the water touched my blistered skin sending a stinging sensation through my back. The pain subsided as the water soaked further into my skin. I floated in the water leaving my body to whatever it wanted.
    What felt like hours was only minutes. Before I was getting out of the water and redressing. After returning on my clothes I sat on the side. But just staring at the water this time. I watched in the reflection as Wells approached.
    "You shouldn't be out here alone, Clarke and I were worried sick." He scolded.
    "Okay Dad, and since when were you and Clarke friends." I replied.
    "Since she found out the truth about her fathers death."
    "Did you only walk out here to scold me, Dad"? I questioned while raising my eyebrows towards him.
    "No Jasper's up, I thought you'd want to go see him."
    "Say no more." I spoke before running back to the camp.
    I ran into the drop ship out of breath. I climbed up the later fast, almost falling back to the ground and injuring myself.
    I saw Jasper laying out were he usually lied on the second floor of the drop ship. I ran up to him quick and loosely hugged his small frame.
    "I'm so sorry."
    I cut him off before he could say anymore. "Shhhh it's okay, your okay, that's all that matters."
So.....I hope you liked this chapter. I'm not going to make up an excuse for why I didn't upload sooner. But I am going to say I'm sorry and hoping it won't happen again in the future. Next chapter Kayleigh is leaving camp, so I'm looking forward that. As usual comment below any suggestions. Thanks for reading.
