15. Find Her

We were running through every room and hall in the warehouse and found nothing. "Ok. Let's check the basement." I suggested. They both nodded then we crept down the awfully dark basement.

I turned on the light, which was super dim. It only lit the room Up slightly. "Ok. It's big, so let's spread out." My sister suggested. "Your crazy right? You never split up in a crime scene. Just follow me." I explained as I had my gun ready for fire. They both decided to trail behind me.

"Mom!" I shouted. Then a noise hit all of our ears to the right. Everyone's head jolted to the right. "Mom?!" Haeven shouted as we ran across the creaking floors. Then there was desks everywhere so I had to hop ice them like a parkore person.

Colby was good at keeping up but Haeven was having a hard time running along with us. She would slightly stumble over objects and desks.

We reach a door. A dark brown wooden door with a copper knob. The hinges were rustic. The door seemed beaten up or cut by some sort of sharp object. I knocked the door. "Hello?! L.A Police!" I shouted, but no answer came.

I said "Stay behind me." They both obeyed and trotted behind me. I walked a few steps back then darted into the door. The door quickly cracked and shattered with my deep force from my run.

"Hello? I called hoping to hear my mothers voice. I heard muffling behind a wall with a full bookcase. "Mom! We're getting you out!" I shouted as everyone single one of us ripped the books off the case. Then I pulled a book but it didnt come off the bookcase. Instead the whole
bookcase turned to show a lit room with my mom sitting in the middle of the room tied up to a chair.

"Mom!" Me and Haeven sprinted over to her helpless body that was dangling off the rope connected to the chair. I pulled the clothe that was pulling her mouth open but couldn't talk. "Mom." Me and haevenshut her in a deep hug.

As Haeven pulled her up she gave Colby a stern look. "Now. Who I this?" She looked up and down his body, I guess checking him out. "My boyfriend." I replied as we kept walking down the halls to reach the stairs. "My name is Colby." He nodded with a smile. "He saved me from dad." I implied, then my mom gave me a look of empathy. Saying sorry in her eyes.

She cocked her head over to Colby. "Thank you." She shook his hand then continued down the deep and dark stairs back up to the first floor.

When we got back we glanced and skimmed around for anyone watching. "There." Colby pointed into a room that seems to have a camera footage shown on a computer.

I studied it and look deeply into the detail. That was down in in the basement. Was he watching?

That thought circled through my mind as we crept to the front door. We walked through the crushed door to reveal a man in my dad's clothes. "Your not leaving." His face didn't show until he rose his head into the light. His features appearing in the light. Uncle Cameron.

I dont know what is happening to my family, but whatever it is didn't effect me, somehow. "Please, Uncle Cam. We did nothing." I settled him down. Why is everything family business.

"No. You killed my brother. And he's not your dad." He explained slowly walking in the door. Then everyone walked slowly back. I stood in front of everyone in case something bad happens.

"What do you mean?" I cocked my head sideways giving a confused look, furrowed eyebrows. "Oh. Your mother didn't tell you?" I nodded no to his question. "Oh what a shame." He taunted as he stepped closer, but this time I didn't step back.

"Your 'father' is Haevens father not yours. Your father is dead. Don't you ever wonder why you have green eyes and different colored hair?" Those words pondered around my mind.

She had brunette hair and I had a mix of brown and red. More red. My eyes were sea green while hers was icy blue. It makes sense but why would my mom hide that from me?

I slowly back everyone up then reached down in my gun case for my gun. "I'm afraid shooting isn't the answer." He ran up. I signaled everyone to run but he caught my sides. "Stop!" I shouted. Colby turned back and ran back to me.

Then my Uncle pulled a knife to my throat. "Drop!" He shouted to Colby holding the pocket knife. "Please. Uncle Cam. We can fix this. We can help you." I explained.

He must not know that I'm a detective and got top notch training.

"Am." Colby lowered his knife. "Am?" Cameron laughed. "That's your nickname?" He asked while his breath brushed against my hair. "Please." I rose my hands in surrender but pictures how I could fight back.

The knife isn't close to my throat so i can quickly duck my head down and before he realizes it I'll grab his hand, with the knife, and pull the knife out and pull back and point the knife at him.

Then I took a deep breath. I processed what was going to happen. Then I did it. I duck my head and twisted around to grab his hand. I pulled the knife out and stepped back, raising the knife directly at him. "Amberly. Your making a mistake." He rose his hands in surrender.

I saw my sister appear behind him. There must've been another way out. The vent.

She saw me too. My mom peered around the corner of the door. My sister held some metal pan thing. She nodded as I still had my knife raised. "GO!" I shouted at her. She ran right behind him and slammed the pan on top of his head.

She ran up to me and hugged the heck out of me. I turned to Colby and linked my fingers to his. We all ran out of the warehouse.

We darted around the building. It turns out the door we escaped from was right next to the vent.

As we ran around the dark building with dark trees and the dark night sky we reached my car. I pulled my keys out and unlocked it from a distance. "Everyone run in now!" I commanded. I rN to the drivers side as my mom ran to the passenger's seat and Colby and Haeven ran to the back.

I quickly started the car and pulled out into the road. "Everyone alright?" I asked as I drove just a little bit over the speed limit to have the warehouse out of sight. "Yea." They all said in unison causing us all to laugh.

Then I felt a tear run down my cheek. I quickly wiped it away so no one can see it. I was in thought of my actual dad. "Honey?" My mom looked over to me. I'm guessing she saw the tear. "Why are you crying?" She asked. Then in the corner of my eye I could see Haeven asleep on the door and Colby looking at me with worry in his eyes.

"Because. This whole time I thought he was my dad, but he wasn't. This whole time my dad has been dead. How am I older than Haeven?" I asked looking over to my mom for a split second.

"Because your father died after one month of me being pregnant so you never met him. Haevens father and I got married after you were 1 or 2 years old. Haevens father was a good man until Haeven was 16. He had mental disabilities he never told me about." I felt another tear run down but on the other cheek. I quickly wiped it away.

"I wish you told me sooner." I explained as I sniffled up my runny nose.
