Experiment Part 3

Peter woke up at 3 in the morning when screams of terror cut through the eerie silence of the base. He jumped, startled by the sound and whipped his head around trying to figure out who was taken. Beside him he saw Jean sleeping on her cot. Isabelle's cell was too dark to see, and so far he had only been able to hear Ororo talk since her cell was across the hall.

'It's not me Pete. They haven't taken me yet.'

Peter let out a sigh of relief. 'What about Isabel? I can't see her...'

'She's alright.' She said. 'Sleeping, it seems.'

Peter nodded. 'Good.'

He heard Ororo sigh loudly. 'Peter, we have to get out of here. If these people don't break us, the constant fear of the experiments will. The guy in the cell next to me, he's been here for 2 years he says.' She sighed again, but this time she sounded defeated. 'Do you think they'll get us out of here, Peter?'

Before Peter could answer he heard a scoff coming from Jean's cell. 'Have you met his dad, Storm. He'll break through the center of the earth to save him. The only real question is how long it will take.'

Peter sighed and leaned back against the wall, hoping it would be soon.

As the plane flew closer toward the base, Wanda was pretty sure she could feel Peter coming closer. She had always been able to feel the presence of his powers. But now, his presence felt weaker.

'What's wrong, Wanda?' Erik asked as he saw his daughter's face distort with worry.

She shook her head slightly. 'I can't feel him, not like I usually do.'

Erik looked confused. 'What do you mean?'

'Ever since our powers came in, I have been able to feel the presence of Peter's powers. First only up close, but as we grew older I was able to feel him over longer distances. But now, I should be close enough to feel him, but I don't feel him like I should.'

'Striker has this technology which can block out a mutant's power.' Raven stated from the copilot's seat.

Scott sighed. 'It's some kind of electric field if they activate it and your inside, you can't use your powers at all. It's scary, you get so used to your powers and sometimes you wished you didn't have them. But once you are put in danger and you can't rely on that once thing that might help you, it is terrifying.'

Wanda shivered. She knew that her powers had terrified her when growing up. Peter had been afraid of his powers as well, when they had just come in. He would randomly start shaking so fast, or would run into the wall out of nowhere because his legs would suddenly start moving. He didn't understand any of it, and it scared him to death. But after all these years he had really come to enjoy his powers, and she knew it would terrify him not being able to rely on them.

'How much longer till we get there?' She asked in the general direction of the cockpit, not really caring who would answer.

'About 15 minutes' Hank answered. 'Once we're there we'll have to get started quickly to keep the element of surprise. We don't want the few people working at this hour to call in help.'

Erik took a deep breath, and looked down at his hand in surprise when he felt someone squeeze it. He knew it had to be Wanda, taken that she was sitting at that side of him, but the gesture of affection both surprised him, as well as fill him with warmth. She still had some resentment towards him -having inherited much more of his own talent to hold grudges than Peter did- and rarely showed affection to him. Erik gently squeezed her hand in return, assuming it was more a gesture of nervousness than pure affection.

'Don't worry, we will find him and get him out alive.'

Peter tiredly watched as two guards dragged a small, sagging form back to one of the cells on the other side of the cellblock. The kid was thrown into the cell and the guards locked in, somewhat laughing at the poor person's pain. Peter rolled his eyes as the guards passed his cell.

'What are you looking at, freak?' The guard stabbed at him before laughing again as they both walked out.

'Such nice people, aren't they?' Ororo joked.

Isabel scoffed. 'And I thought my dad beating me for being a mutant was bad. As soon as you think you found the cruelest person in the world, the universe does its best to prove you wrong.'

'Well, we're mutants, the universe is always trying to prove us wrong.' Jean muttered.

'Or at least show us that it's a dick.' Peter joked.

No more than a split second later the ground began to shake. The sound of all the cell doors rattling echoed through the space, deafening everyone including the guards. The mutants in other cells sat up, startled. The lamps above them started to slowly fade weaker as static sound filled the air.

'What the hell is going on!?' Isabel yelled.

Peter looked up and saw the lights go out, showing small dark red sparks in the air as all the electricity in the building went out. Peter felt a tingle go through his entire body and realized his hand was vibrating again. He laughed out loud.

'Hell yeah!'

Slowly the others in the room realized what was happening, resulting in happy roaring from the mutants, while the guard barked orders into their coms requesting immediate back up.

Peter smirked. No back up would be fast enough.

The mutants in their cells started fully wake up, re gain their strength and readied themselves for the battle that was coming. But the doors were still locked.

'Jean, can you open them?!' Peter asked.

'I'm trying!'

'There is no need for that.' A familiar voice filled the room, coming from behind the guarded door. The two guards turned around and dropped their ground as they laid eyes on Magneto. Before they could say a word, Magneto threw them back against the wall.

'You keep us here like inferior beings, when it's obvious when you are the inferior ones.'

With one flick of his hand, Magneto opened the doors to all the cells, letting out all the mutants. He quickly rushed over to Peter, and opened his mouth to ask questions.

'I'm fine.' Peter said as his dad reached him. 'Well, I guess not really fine, but we've got more important things to do, and you're already angry enough to kill everyone here anyway. So let's just get out of her.'

Erik chuckled slightly and put his hand on his son's shoulder. 'It's good to see you again, Peter.'

'Can we just get out of here?!' Jean called as she, Ororo and Isabel reached them.

'Yes, we can. But before we do.' He took out 4 sets of ear plugs. 'Take these. They will let us communicate among each other, as well as block out Isabel's singing.

Isabel grinned. 'Then let's do this.'

The five of them stalked down the corridors, taking out any guards they ran into. It was liberating to finally use their powers again, and for many of the captured mutants, they had never enjoyed their powers more. By the time they reached the experimentation lab, they had knocked down at least 80 guards.

When they rounded the corner, Peter froze where he stood. Even this early in the morning there were at least 4 people working in the lab. But right now they were all held up in the sky, quite clearly in pain, held up there by sparks of red. In the middle of it all stood Wanda, wearing knee high boots, and a dark red dress with a black leather jacket. The look Peter saw in her eyes said enough, she was not planning on playing nice in any way.

'You think it's nice to just torture and experiment on us?! You think hurting us has no consequences?! Well here are your consequences!'

The look of pain on the 4 scientists turned to looks of agony, right before they were flung against the walls, and pulled back to floating in midair. Wanda smirked, her fingers itching for more.

'Wanda!' Peter yelled. 'Încetează!'

Wanda's head snapped sideways, facing her brother. A look of relief washed over her face, but is soon returned to anger as she saw the scars and brueses on him.

'They deserve it' she yelled out, the pure disgust towards the scientists obvious in her voice.

'No they don't! Wanda, if we hurt them like they hurt us, we are no better than they are! We need to be the better people. So let them go.

Wanda thought for a second and sighed before dropping the scientists onto the hard ground. 'Fine, then let's just get out of here.' She stalked over to her brother and hugged him.

'Don't ever scare me like that, ever again.'

Peter chuckled and hugged her back. 'I'll try.'

Followed by all other escaped mutants, the X-men ran towards the exit back to the X-Jet, but just before they could reach the door, their path was blocked by a group of about 80 guards. The group stopped in their tracks, and watched as the group of men pointed their guns at them.

'Sooo, what do we do now?' Scott asked.

Isabel looked at Peter. They shared a strange look, and both grinned before moving towards the front of the group and stepped forward.

'What are you gonna do, freaks?!' The guards mocked and laughed.

'I'm going to sing you a song.' Isabel stated with a serious face.

The guards laughed more. 'And what will that do.'

'Enough.' Isabel smirked before opening her mouth and starting to sing, causing the guards to phase out as if they were drunk.

And then Peter started running, knocking out all the guards in the process, while everything moved in slow motion. By the time he moved back to stand with the rest, only a split second had passed. All the guards were on the floor, their guns in a pile on the floor, completely disarmed.

'What just happened?' One of the other mutants asked, still slightly dazed from Isabel's singing.

'What just happened is that they got us out of here.' Erik stated angrily. 'Now let's move before they send more guards after us.'

'Let's move!' Raven yelled and everyone started moving. They escaped the base, and left to safety.

It was about 2 hours after the jet had arrived at the X-mansion and Peter was standing in his room getting dressed after having taken a shower.

'Can I come in?' Erik asked, as he stood in the doorway.

Peter nodded and turned around as his dead walked in and closed the door. Erik stopped about a meter away from his son and assessed the damage the humans had done to his only son. He shook his head.

'Humans think they are better than us, but in truth, they are the monsters.'

Peter shrugged. 'I'll be fine, dad. Don't worry. What's a few more scars on my body.'

'I'm more worried about the mental scars they left you, Pietro. They will last a lifetime and will haunt you forever.'

Peter looked at the tattoo on his arm. Erik saw the tattoo and took Peter's arm in his hands.

'No matter what they try to do to you, Peter. Remember they will never be able to reduce who you are to just a number. As long as you care about people and there are people who care about you, you will always be a person, never just a number.'

Peter nodded in understanding. 'I know dad.'

'Good.'

'Hey Peter!' Wanda's voice filled the room.

'Speaking about people who care about you.' Erik smiled. 'Go.' He said. 'We can talk later, Peter. For now, just spend some time with your sister.'

Peter smiled. 'I'll see you later dad.' He walked towards Wanda and walked off, hoping to forget the horrors of his time at the base, even if it was just for a few hours.

Wow, that was longer than I expected, I hope you guys like it.
