 I turn to her and ask, "What are you going to do?"

"What do you mean?" She asks looking back at me with those piercing green eyes. 

"Are you going to take control over the situation or are you going to let that bitch, Sara, run you." I stated.  "Don't let them run your life. You are the strongest person I know. You are raising a beautiful daughter practically on your own –“

“Preston, you helped me when I needed it.”

“But that’s the thing, you never really needed me. It was all you.”

“You need to stop selling yourself short, Preston. You were there when she was born; you’re practically her father!” She exclaims. “Who knows if Ashton is even going to want to be in her life? I don’t want her to get to know him then have him reject her because she doesn’t fit his family’s standards.”

“He is a fucking idiot if he wants nothing to do with her. Willow is so wonderful.”

“Jules, what’s going on?”I ask.

“I-I’m pregnant, Preston,” she says with tears running down her face.

“Do I know him?” I ask with anger. She simply nods her head.

I pull her in for a hug to comfort her and she sobs into my shirt.

I sigh, “Ashton?”

She nods again into my chest. Damn, that fucker. I am feeling anger and sadness all at once. I am angry at him for being a selfish bastard and I am sad for her. She doesn’t deserve what is happening to her but its happening.

“What are you going to do, Jules?” I ask. I am scared for the answer.

“I-I’m g-g-going to keep the baby but other than that I don’t know,” She says and I sigh in relief because a small piece of me hoped that she would choose that choice.

“Are you going to tell him?”

“That probably would not be wise to do that,” she says.

“Why?”

She looks up at me with those green eyes and says, “Preston, after we had sex, he said that I deserved someone that would make me their first choice and that he would never choose me.”

“He said that?” I ask angrily.

She nods.

“Fuck him, Jules .He doesn’t deserve you anyways”

“I wish it was that easy to forget him. I love him, Preston.”

“I know you do. But, Jules, he is obviously moving on and leaving you with a mess that you have to clean up and he gets to go and play house with Sara.”

She doesn’t answer. I know she knows that what I said is true. Ashton has never cleaned up his own messes. He never deserved her and never will. He is a coward and she deserves more.

“Marry me.”I say.

“W-What?!” She screeches.

 “Jules, marry me. I will take care of you and help you with the pregnancy. I know that we don’t love each other like a typical couple will but I do love you. You’re my best friend and I would do anything for you. You ask and I’ll deliver.”

“I love you too. But I am not going to have you marry me.”

“Why not? We are both single.”

“What about Maci?”

“What about her? She won’t give me a definite answer about being a real couple and quite frankly I am tired of waiting around for her.”

“Preston –“

“Jules, no. I am making this decision to ask you. I am not doing it because I feel sorry for you or because I feel obligated since I brought Ashton into our lives. I am doing this because you’re my best friend and you need someone right now. Let me be that someone.”I pleaded.

“You don’t have to do this.”

“No, I don’t. I want to. Just let me, Jules.”

“Okay.”

“Okay, what?”

“Let’s get married,” she says while smiling at me.

I smile back at her and say, “Courthouse here we come.”

“We should have put you down as the father,” says Jules.

“We both know that you would have felt guilty about it.”

“I know.” She deadpans.

“You’re going to have to tell him at some point.”

“We should have done it at dinner then this whole vacation would be over with.”

“He probably would have killed me.”

She turns and looks at me and says, “I wouldn’t have let him.”

“And why is that?” I ask.

She smiles and says, “Because you’re my favorite ex-husband, of course.”

I pull her in and kiss her temple and say, “And you’re always going to be my favorite ex-wife.”
