Chapter 6

I grudgingly walk with them to my work.

"I'm so excited to see where you work y/n!" Uraraka warmly says as we walk to the train station.

"Don't get too excited. It's just a McDonald's."

"But it's the McDonald's you work at!" She emphasizes the 'you'. I can't help but smile at her. I'm not enthused about them accompanying me but she is really nice.

"Yeah, I'm curious to learn more about you y/n! We've been living in the same dorms for awhile now," Asui ribbits.

"I'm curious to learn more too," Todoroki states in the same monotone voice. The others don't bat an eye at this comment, but I do. I know this is a slight dig to when he questioned me and I told him 'I don't owe you an explanation'.

"We can also get some food while we're there!" Midoriya says enthusiastically.

We rode the train there and walked through the downtown chatting. I remain quieter because I haven't spent that much time with them.

Once we get to the McDonald's I clock in for my shift and change into the uniform. I walk up to the register and take the line of people's orders. Eventually Midoriya, Todoroki, Uraraka and Asui make it to the front of the line.

I put on my customer service smile, taking them off guard. I'm not a cheery type, "What can I get for you today?"

The group looks excitedly at me and places their orders.

They sit down after waiting for their food. After they finish their food they tell me they'll be touring around downtown and come back when my shift ends. I watch their backs as they leave.

A few more hours pass and my shift is over, the rest of my Saturday is free to do whatever. As promised the group showed up just in time to meet me once my shift ends. We begin to walk back together before Todoroki suggests, "We should hang out again."

This comment doesn't go unnoticed by the group.

"We should!" Uraraka exclaims.

"Totally!" Asui agrees.

"Yes, I liked hanging out with you guys."

The group they were being sly but they weren't. This is their indirect way of saying they liked hanging out with me. They hang out with each other all the time so saying this without me here wouldn't make sense. I look over to Todoroki from my peripheral. I just find it weird that he was the one who said it.

"Yeah, we should hang out again sometime."

We all ride back to UA on the train. Todoroki sits beside me. Uraraka, Asui and Midoriya sit on the opposing side. I would've been fine sitting in silence with Todoroki but he seems to have other plans.

"Don't think because we're hanging out that I don't still have my file on you," he says calculatingly, looking ahead.

"Don't think because we're hanging out that I'll spill all my secrets to you," I fiercely reply, looking ahead.

"So you admit to having secrets?" he challenges.

"What secrets?" I ask innocently. Just to piss him off a bit.

He grunts, "I'll figure out what you're hiding." Unknowingly flaring an invisible rivalry between us.

"Good luck with that."

Today, Shinso talked to me again. Asked if I'd ever want to have lunch together.

Before class started he came up to my desk, "Hey y/n."

I couldn't hide the shock that covered my face. None of the people in this class ever talk to me, "Hey Shinso."

"I was wondering if you'd ever want to have lunch together?" Shinso asked.

Why is he asking me this now? He hasn't talked to me in the last few weeks. Not since I confirmed I'm quirk immune, "Sure. I'm free today."

His eyebrows lift, "Really? Great."

The teacher walks in so he sits in his seat. The rest of our classes go by.

Once lunch arrives me and Shinso make our way to the cafeteria together. I look at him from the corner of my eye. He hasn't said anything to me yet. All he did was smile at me before leaving our classroom.

We get to the cafeteria together and get our food from Lunch Rush.

None of the class 1A students call me over since they see me sit down with Shinso at an empty table. Well partially empty. A group of 1C students sit on the other end, not talking to us.

Me and Shinso begin to eat our lunch.

"So I noticed you're not in the 1C dorms," he prods.

"It took you a month to realize that?" I reply somewhat mockingly.

"No," his voice hitches. He just stopped himself from saying something, "I noticed a while ago. You're always with those 1A students." He gestures to 1A, glaring at Bakugo.

"That's 'cause I'm in their dorm."

He continues with another question, "That's exactly my point, why are you in their dorm?"

I deflect the question, "Look if you only asked me for lunch to interrogate me, then I'm leaving." I begin to put on my bag.

"No," he stops me. I pause on leaving, "I'm sorry. It's none of my business. I asked to have lunch because I want to be friends." His eyes show me a hint of desperation.

I decide to put my bag back down.

"You're not great at conveying that..." I look at him skeptically, "If you wanted to be friends, why didn't you ask me earlier? Like when I first transferred into your class?"

"I- Well- I tried but you were already sitting with that 1A group," he points to Mina's table. I remember all the stuff from his anime about him having people scared of him. That's probably why he wanted to be friends with me. It's guaranteed I won't be.

"Them?" I ask. "I'm not really good friends with them."

"Really?" he questions in disbelief. "But you sat with them instantly."

"That was luck," I shrug. "Mina surprised me just as much as she surprised you."

We finish our lunch and head back to class chatting. The rest of the day goes by. Shinso asks me if I'd want to have lunch again tomorrow, which I agree to.

When I get back to the dorms, I set up camp in the common area. My piles of homework taking over the table. I need to start studying for exams. A group of the class 1A students went out to the arcade so it'll be pretty quiet here for a few hours.

Todoroki walks up to the table I've taken over. I guess he's still here, "Anyone sitting here?"

"Me," I reply wittily. He silently sits down beside me, ignoring my rejection. Or just failing to realize I had rejected him sitting down with me. "You here to interrogate me more? 'Cause if you are, I'm busy," I state.

"I can see that," he looks at my mess of papers. "Can I study with you?"

I look up from my papers. I'm a little surprised he asked me that. "Sure," I agree. He quickly runs back to his dorm and comes back with his own stack of papers. We sit on opposing sides. Studying in silence.

"Hey, y/n." Todoroki lifts up the paper he's working on. "Do you know how to do this problem?" He gets up from his spots and comes over to my side. When he sits down I lean in to check out the math problem he's referring to.

"Math's not my strong suit but I think-" I'm cut off by loud voices overtaking the doorway. The rest of the class is back from the Arcade. I look up and see Mina run over to us.

"What're you guys doing?" she asks curiously, peering down at our papers.

"Math," I reply. Immediately her face shifts.

"Ooh," she grunts, walking away. She chats with Asui.

The group continues to be loud so Todoroki and I decide to pack up. Me and Todoroki walk to the elevator.

"I'm going to get a better grade in the exams," he states blankly.

"I'd like to see you try. My grades are good," I retort.

We continue to challenge each other. I notice he doesn't press his floor button in the elevator. "Hey. You forgot to press your floor," I point out.

He turns to me. A confused expression prominent on his face, "I thought we were going to your dorm."

"Pfft, I never said that."

"I still need help on that math question."

"Figure it out yourself."

He presses his floor, "Fine."

Shit I didn't mean to make him mad. He gets off at his floor, quickly I follow after him.

He doesn't turn to me as he calmly walks to his dorm. "Why're you following me?" He asks bitterly. Yep, he looks calm but he's upset.

"I'm sorry, I'll help you with your math problem." He turns to me. "But we're studying in your dorm, not mine." I point my finger out.

"Okay," he opens his dorm room. We walk in together. This is my first time going into his dorm. It's very traditional. I lay down my papers on the floor. I help him with his question and he reluctantly lets me leave.

"Thanks for your help y/n," he says as he watches me leave through the door.

"You're welcome," I smile at him. I leave his dorm.
