A showcase with @Mad_Jane, author of: Blighted Hearts

1 what inspired the idea of your story?

This story was inspired by some songs that I love, and that are close to my heart. Also, some of the more tense moments were taken from real life experiences of people around me.

2 what is something you struggled constructing with your story?

Giving Chelsea the ending she deserved was one of the hardest parts for me. I wanted to capture the effect of trauma on ones future, but at the same time show that in time, things can heal.

3 what did you enjoy writing most of your story?

I enjoyed being able to bring the emotions I felt from these special songs to life. Some songs are written with such raw emotion, I feel each one has a story that deserves to be told. That's what I tried to do in this story, tie them together.

4 what's the overall response of your story from your readers?

I published my book pretty recently, so it doesn't have too many comments. The ones I do have though, they all seem to connect to my characters in one way or another. Whether it's something the characters say, does or in the way they act.

5 is your story a stand alone novel or a piece of a series ?

This book is a stand alone, but there is another one in the works that ties the two together.

6 what would you like your readers to take away from your story?

That life can be shitty sometimes, but if you just hang it a little longer, you'll find something worth living for.

7 what advice would you provide to fellow writers, when it comes to focusing on their own story?

It is important to write something that readers will love. But it is also important to stay true to yourself as a writer.

8 does your main character share any similarities to yourself?

In a way, yes. In some of Chelsea's more intense and emotional moments, her emotions have been ones I've felt at one point in my life.

9 what is something about your story you believe would draw in new readers?

The fact that the story is not really what it seems, there's a twist in it that is supposed to be the actual plot of the story.

10 do you have any future projects?

I'm currently working on Lisa's book following her life after the second book. As for what's after that one? We'll see what songs inspire me to keep writing.
