fourty five

harlee's pov:
saturday

this upcoming week is our schools spring break and it's coming down to that time of year where everyone is just waiting for summer.

a month or two ago javon asked if I could go to destin with jaden, him, and his dad for their spring break trip.

at first I was a bit hesitant about asking my mom, but after she met dj and got to know javon she had no problem with me going.

her only request was that I have my own room at the hotel.

I truly had never seen my mom so lenient until I met javon which is strange, because if anything I expected her to be a little more strict.

"are you sure you're not forgetting anything?" my moms light voice asked as I rolled my suitcase into the living room.

I playfully scoffed under my breath, "yes mom I have everything."

"do you have your toothbrush, bathing suits, panties, hair supplies?" she asked walking over to the front door, opening it for me as I rolled my suitcase.

"yes mom I have everything I promise." I laughed at her questions as she followed me out to my car.

I was supposed to be at the twins house in ten minutes so that we could leave for the trip, because the car ride from atlanta to destin is about five hours.

I have to admit I was beyond excited to be spending time with the twins and their dad over this spring break. it definitely beats sitting in my room all day sleeping.

"okay mom, I need to go." I told her as I shut my trunk door quickly walking over to her.

she glanced at me as if she's taking a mental image of my face to remember me for the next three days.

the only time I haven't traveled with my mom was when I went on a trip with klai, which was only for two days.

my mom and I don't really like to leave each others side, because we're all each other have.

she held out her arms as I trotted over to her before she engulfed me in a hug. squeezing me tighter than I think anyone ever has.

"be careful harlee grey. don't do any stupid shit and if you are doing any activities practice them safely." she mumbled in my ear before slowly slipping her arms away from my body.

"mom stop," I lightly jerked my arm away as I walked over to my car door. the pink tint instantly covering my cheeks.

"call me when you get in the car and settled, and tell dj and the boys I said hello." she smiled as I slid into the drivers seat before closing the car door.

I rolled down my window taking one last look at my mom as she waved her hands at me.

I started to reverse out of the driveway as I waved goodbye to my mother. "bye mom I love you."

"I love you too." her voice echoed as I turned onto the street, looking back at her one last time.

I felt my body become anxious as I exited my neighborhood, heading to the twins house. my expectations are high for this trip, and I hope more than anything that it's even better than what we're all expecting.

when I arrived at javon's house everyone was outside frantically shoving suitcases into the back of the car and checking to make sure everyone is ready.

my eyes landed on dj who seemed to be excited, and definitely looked better than when I saw him last. javon and jaden were helping each other pack the suitcases into the trunk of their dads car.

I parked on the side of their street, grabbing my belongings as I slowly rolled my suitcase up their driveway.

wanna turned over his shoulder glancing at me, as a smile took over his face as he quickly approached me.

"hey baby," his voice was low as he leaned over to kiss my cheek grabbing the suitcase handle from out of my hands rolling it up the rest of the driveway.

"hi wanna," I smiled, finding myself excited just being in his presence.

"are you excited?" he asked me as we reached the car causing jaden to turn around looking at me.

"hey harlee." he gently smiled walking towards javon and I.

I smiled back at him and javon started to put my suitcase in the trunk. "hey j."

"shit, harls, how much stuff do you need for three days?" javon complained as he struggled to pull my suitcase out of the trunk of the car.

jaden and I both scoff as javon wiped his forehead as if he were exhausted from carrying my suitcase up the driveway and stacking it in the trunk.

"you don't understand wanna, you're not a girl." I roll my eyes at him as he came over joining jaden and I.

dj slowly walked over to the three of us with a toothless smile on his face as he walked towards me.

he wrapped his arm around my shoulder, embracing me in a soft hug, "hey harlee, how you doing?" he asked me lowly as I wrapped my arms around him.

"I'm good dj, how are you?" I asked him, genuinely curious as to how he's been doing these past few weeks.

"pretty good, just trying hang on." his smile slowly faded as we released each other from the hug.

every time I thought about the possibilities of what could happen I start to get teary eyed, and I hate that it has to be this way.

we all do.

I've only known dj for a short period of time yet he never fails to amaze me each time with his perception of his life.

out of all people he's is the last one who deserves the quality of life he's living right now.

"have you ever been to destin harlee?" jaden asked me as he started to walk over to the passenger door.

"yeah once, I was about ten or eleven." I answered him as he faded from my view, hopping into the car.

"it's gonna be so much fun." javon mumbled loud enough for only me to hear, before his dad walked back to the garage door.

"I'm going to grab the snack bag from inside." dj announced to us putting his hands in the air. "is there anything else I need to grab while I'm inside?"

javon shook his head no, grinning lowly at his dad.

"wanna I know you'll be the first person to say you forgot something just watch." dj laughed smacking his hands down against his legs, starting to walk inside the house.

"I think this is the most excited I've been for a trip in a long time." I admitted to javon feeling a smile creep onto my face.

the more I thought about the trip, the more anxious I found myself becoming. I know this is exactly what the twins and dj want to be doing and I feel so lucky that I met this family and was invited to tag along.

"you ready?" javon asked me, snapping me out of whatever trance I was in.

I smiled without my teeth, nodding my head at him as he reached down to interlock our fingers.

he opened the car door with his opposite hand, then signaling for me to climb in on the back row. him following right behind me.

"curious harlee," jaden said as javon shut the car door, both of us buckling our seat belts. "how was the girls night?" he asked turning over his shoulder to face me.

"it was very fun actually," I jokingly smiled at him, licking the inside of my cheek. "we had a bonfire and made s'mores."

"so to me sounds like y'all could've just hung out with us?" javon said more as a statement, butting into our conversation as his eyes laid on mine.

"I'm going to be with you guys for the next 72 hours, I think me going over my friends house won't hurt anyone." my tone became almost defensive, as I rose one of my brows at him.

he over dramatically placed his hand over his heart, "so you're upset about being with us the next three days?" the sarcasm laced in his voice.

"shut up wanna." I lightly hit his kneecap, feeling my cheeks heat up from the the conversation we were having.

our laughter filled the car before dj opened the drivers door with a smile on his face. looking to the backseat at his son before placing the snack bag on the floor.

"is everyone ready?" he asked, once more. turning over his shoulder to buckle his seatbelt as he narrowed his eyes at javon through the rear view mirror. "no one's forgetting anything?"

jaden and I assure him that we're ready to leave while javon sat in silence pursing his lips together, trying his absolute hardest to avoid eye contact with his dad.

"let's get it then." dj's voice took over the car as he turned on the engine, making all of us crack a quick smile at his excitement.

I saw javon looking over at me for a few seconds without saying a word. he simply just stared as his lips turned into a small grin.

I turned to face him trying to fight back my own smile, "what?" I questioned him fiddling with my finger tips.

he took a long breath continuing to look into my eyes, "nothing." he shrugged clearly not saying what he was thinking.

he leans across to rest his head on the window, not budging to break our eye contact as he gently laughed under his breath.

"I'm going to take a nap so if y'all don't mind, don't bother me." he announced to the car as he shut his eyes, biting the inside of his cheek.

"we haven't been on the road five minutes and you're already sleeping?" jaden questioned, squinting his eyes as he pulled out his phone from his pants pocket.

I lowly laughed at the both of them, following wanna's actions by resting my head on the window as I looked back and forth from him to jaden.

javon didn't bother opening his eyes before answering to his brother, "I was up all night trying to pack."

"and that's exactly why I keep assuming you forgot something." dj added, shaking his head at javon. "you gotta stop with that last minute packing dude."

"dad, I didn't forget anything." javon said, pausing in between each word. his eyes still remaining shut.

"we'll see." dj added before turning up the radio station lowly chuckling under his breath.

I felt my phone vibrate in my lap, instantly catching my attention. causing my head to look down at the notification.
