TheHeadHill - "Sinister Twin Sister"

Name of Author: Jaylen Hill

Title of Book: Sinister Twin Sister (Sinister Twin Sister 2: Reign of darkness) (Sinister Twin Sister 3: Dark hearts)

Favorite authors: I have many favorite authors because I'm such an avid reader, but my top are L.J. Smith, and E. Lynn Harris... L.J. Smith because she opened the world of paranormal writing up to me. Before I had read any of her novels, I knew I wanted to write but I didn't know what about or how to go about it, when I started reading 'The Secret Circle series' it all came clear that I knew I was made to write paranormal stories and I suddenly knew exactly how to do it. I really owe my writing style to her. E. Lynn Harris because his books were the first that I read from start to finish by myself and without being forced. I found his writing style to be on the brink of genius but with subtle tones of normality and belivability. These two authors are who I aspired to be like upon embarking on the literary world.

Bio: Ugh, but it's so long, I'd rather not answer this question, lol, I'll write an autobiographical tell-all oneday instead, how about that?

Can you explain what your book is all about?
Twin sisters that are best friends and have done everything together since birth, but one day they find out they are witches, when one sister develops her powers and meets a magical clique of friends and the other doesn't, a mixture of pride and jealousy began to weigh on their close relationship, turning them against one another, so that when the other sister finally does develop powers and meets a magical clique of her own, a full on war of good vs. evil plays out between the two sisters and their friends.

Who is your target audience - and why?
When I first decided to write this book, I didn't have a target audience in mind, it was just for whoever wanted to read it, and that rule still applies because there's something in it for everyone. Most books have one set genre, either it's paranormal, romance, mystery, horror, drama, etc, but with my book you kind of get all of that rolled up into one.

What is 'paranormal' about your story?
The fact that its about so many different creatures. There are witches, vampires, reapers, ghosts, Ammaronis' (which is a creature I made up), but they all live in the same normal world.

Does it contain other genre elements, if so which ones - and why?
It does, as I stated earlier, it contains a little of all of the genres, and I wrote it that way because I understood that that's what made a best selling book.

Tell us about your writing process - how do you get from story idea to a Wattpad published story?
I wish I could tell you that I meditate and think for hours and hours at a time about ideas before I put them on paper, but I don't. Stories just come to me, sometimes they just pop in my head while I'm writing, sometimes they come in dreams, but for the most part as soon as I see it in my head I write it into the story.

Did you encounter any challenges when writing, if so - how did you overcome them?
I don't encounter too many challenges when writing. The one challenge this year that I encountered was the fact that I am a 2011 watty award winner and a two time 2012 watty award nominee, and every year since then the Watty awards' deadline has been in november; well this year, a week before the deadline was due, I was suddenly told that the dates had changed since 2012, and that the deadline was August 31'st. I believe I was told this on August 23'rd, and mind you I was only in the middle of my book. So I spent that entire week infront of my computer writing to meet the deadline, and that was a challenge for me because I've never written so much at one time before.

You often hear that 'writing well' is the baseline for success. What does that mean for you?
Not always true. When I first started writing I had no idea what I was doing. I wrote poorly, my dialogue was awful, my editing sucked, um, but there was something deep inside that I knew was there. Sure with a little practice and YEARS of writing it finally came out, but even still it isn't perfect. I think that as the human race, we'll never be completely perfect in anything that we do because we're all only human at the end of the day.
