Chapter 9

"Mothers." Cyrus trailed off. "Fathers, children, though we walk through the valley of the shadow of death, we fear no evil, because thou art with us."

Rossi gave everyone a confused look; he knew deep down it was a bluff, but he just didn't know how to convince the others.

"This doesn't fit. I looked him in the eye. He was calm and lucid. "

Hotch shook his head. "They're committing mass suicide."

"We don't know that for sure," Rossi argued, a bit frustrated.

Derek looked at him. "Rossi, he just said it."

One of the agents came in. "We're ready to go."

Rossi moved towards Hotch, moving his hands in an aggravated manner. "If we go in, people are going to die."

Hotch rubbed his temples. "People are already dying!"

Cyrus looked at everyone, observing them discreetly.

And God will wipe the tears from their eyes, and there will be no more death. Neither sorrow, nor crying. And there will be no more pain. For all of the former things have passed away. "

"What do we do?" Prentiss asked.

"Nothing," Reid replied quietly. "We do nothing."

"We have to do something," Prentiss whispered, her eyes frantic. "These people just took poison."

"Cyrus just told them they did," Daniella whispered, shaking her head.

Reid nodded. "I think he's bluffing."

Prentiss looked at him. "Why do you think that?"

"Just after he told them about the poison, he waited for them to react," Reid points out, looking at Cole before looking around again. "Then he nodded at Cole, who started writing."

"Look," Daniella nodded, discreetly towards them. "They're scanning the audience for reactions."

Reid looked at them. "They're writing down the names of those who are crying."

"It's a loyalty list," Prentiss mutters, catching up on Reid and Daniella's theory. "So he knows who will follow him to the end."

Rossi and Hotch continued to argue in front of the other agents, who were genuinely unsure which order to follow.

"Jim Jones pulled the same stunt!" Rossi exclaimed. "They did a test run just like this years before they did the real thing."

Hotch sighed. "Prepare your men to go in."

Cyrus looked at everyone before narrowing his eyes slightly.

"Be still. "There was no poison," he said, walking towards the steps in between the roles. Instead, a test of faith because your adversary, the devil, waltzes about as a roaring lion. Choosing who to devour.Watch each other for signs of weakness. You are a brother's keeper. "

Hotch shook his head. "Tell them to stand down."

"Yes, sir. "Nice call," he said to Rossi, who let out a breath in relief.

JJ walked in and noticed how tense everyone was, making her clear her throat. "The former sect leader is here."

"I got it," Morgan said, walking out.

"Charles Mulgrew" is his real name. Charles Mulgrew. " "He said," looking at Derek and Hotch. "His mother was 5 months pregnant when she showed up on our doorstep. He turned out to be one of the smart ones. amazing memory that kid had. "

Derek looked at him and crossed his arms, not impressed with his judgement on the guy.

"Anything he could read, he could repeat back to you, and he did. "Mouthy little son of a bitch."

"Why'd he leave the ranch?" Derek asked.

"When he was 17, a couple of our young girls came to me and said he'd been messing with them."

Derek nodded. "You mean sexually?"

"Yes, sir," I do. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm a libertarian, but those little girls were too young for a 17-year old boy to be messing with. "

Derek looked him in the eye. "So you kicked him out for that?"

He nodded, leaning back. "Yes sir, I did. His mother took him to Kentucky. hadn't heard anything from him for years. Then, when he finally showed up again, he said his mother had died. He claimed he had found God and he wanted to come home. "

Derek sat at the table as he processed the information, but was still confused about one thing. "How does a kid like that get rid of you?"

"One day, he came to me," he explained. "He said God told him that I should leave the ranch. I said if God felt that way, God could tell me himself. He put a gun to my head and said, "He just did."

After Garcia told them bits of information and they made a map, Rossi sighed, this one fact bothering him the most.

"Well, this just made things worse," he said, looking at Derek before looking down at the map.

"What? That he was a model citizen? " Derek asked, turning to him.

Rossi made a face. "No, that he's been to prison."

Derek nodded, realizing the same thing as Rossi. "He knows what happens to child molesters there."

"JJ, I need you to release a press statement saying that we have absolutely no evidence of sexual allegations."

"Guys!" JJ sighed and went online to the news channel. "You need to see this."

The reporter was on once again.

"Now well into the second day, the stand-off at the Separtarian Sect Ranch has now been taken over by the FBI. There was much speculation in regard to hostages, but anonymous sources inside the state attorney general's office have told us there is an undercover FBI agent being held inside the Separtarian Sect Ranch. "

Everyone sighed and shook their heads, with Rossi suppressing a groan.

"Hostage negotiators say they are making headway with the sect's leadership and are hopeful for a positive outcome. There's still no word as to why an undercover agent was sent in alone. "

Reid felt Daniella move away from him slightly, and she rubbed her eyes.

"Sleep," Reid said with a small smile.

"I need to stay awake," she sighed, shaking her foot.

"You'll be fine," Prentiss assured her."We'll wake you up if anything."

Cyrus came in, and they all turned to him as he walked towards them. His expression was calm, but they all knew that was him being passive.

"Which one of you is it?" He asked.

They looked at him quietly, and he took out his gun.

"Which one of you is an FBI agent?" He asked again.

Reid looked at him confused, and Daniella and Prentiss looked at each other, having a small hunch about his question.

"Why do you think one of us is the FBI?" Reid asked, his eyebrows furrowing.

He looked at Reid. "God will forgive me for what I must do."

He set his gun and pointed it at Reid. Prentiss looked at him, shocked, and Daniella began to panic a bit. She looked at Reid and then turned to Prentiss.

His breathing became erratic, and his nervousness was visible on his face.

"Well, one of you does," Cyrus asked. "Who is it?"

He looked at them once more and was close to pulling the trigger. Her eyes watered, and she closed her eyes with a sigh.

"Me."

Reid turned to Daniella, and so did Prentiss.

"It's me," she repeated, looking at Prentiss before looking at Reid.

Cyrus put the gun down and Reid made a face at her as he turned to her. He let out a breath and put his gun away. He leaned over and grabbed her by the hair. She grunted as he dragged her. She looked at them and shook her head, as if to tell them not to move. Reid got up, but he was quickly seated when they pointed a gun at him.

The men went back into the church as Cyrus disappeared with Daniella around the corner of the room, and Reid turned to Prentiss, his breathing becoming short.

"Emily," Spencer breathed out. "What the hell do we do now?"
