Chapter 6

"He comes into my bedroom and lays with me. He says it's God's will. I'm only fifteen, and I'm not the only one. Please, help me! "

Daniella made a face as she read the case file, Reid grabbing a file before leaning forward towards the two other agents.

"Tell us about the 9-1-1 call," he said, opening the file once again.

The other agent kept driving, Prentiss putting her window up as dirt started to fly into the air and into the window.

"I believe the 'he' that they referred to is the church's leader, Benjamin Cyrus," she said.

"Hm," Daniella muttered, looking at his case file before turning the page to see nothing. "Benjamin Cryus, no criminal record."

Reid closed the file in her hand and she looked up at him as he looked forward. "There is no record at all. What else do you know about him? "

Prentiss looked out into the mid-desert of Colorado and kept quiet as she listened intently, processing every bit of information.

"It's rumored that he's practicing polygamy and forced marriages."

Prentiss nodded. "Any idea who the caller is?"

The agent shook her head slightly. "Uh, Jessica Evanson is the one who fits the age description, but we can't be sure, so I negotiated interviews with all the children. It wasn't easy.

"Well, considering their view of outsiders," Daniella sighed. "It would be best if you didn't identify us as the FBI."

Prentiss gave her gun to Reid, and he gave her an ID. Daniella was hesitant about giving her gun, but she did anyway, and Reid gave her a small smile and handed her an ID.

"Just use our real names and introduce us as child victim interview experts," Prentiss said.

The other agent nodded, and she drove to the church. Reid looked at the guy who opened the gate for them, and Daniella looked at the lady passing by with a child.

"Typical church ranch," she muttered.

She drove up to the front of the church and cut the engine. There was a guy sitting on the steps of the church, and they got out of the car. Reid looked around and stood next to Daniella.

"I'm looking for Benjamin Cyrus," the agent called out.

Daniella looked around; Reid was looking at her weirdly.

"I don't even know her name," Daniella whispered to Reid.

They walked towards the guy and he didn't bother looking up. His body language was tense and uneasy. He already didn't trust them, and that made Daniella nervous.

"You found him," he says.

She introduces herself as Nancy Lunde.

Reid turned to Daniella, and they both grinned widely at each other.

"We spoke on the phone regarding the allegation," she said, holding her case bag.

He sat up a bit and stood up, taking off his glasses. His demeanor was off, but everyone remained composed.

"Savages they call us, because our manners differ from theirs," he says, taking a step toward them.

Prentiss looked at him, her gaze falling on the children that were running around.

"We didn't come here to hear you cite scripture, Mr. Cyrus," Nancy said.

"Actually," Reid interrupted. "It's Benjamin Franklin."

He turned to Nancy before looking back at them.

She introduced Emily Prentiss, Spencer Reid, and Daniella Kenyon as the child victim interview experts.

He sighed. "How far from God's word must we have strayed for there to be the need to invent a job called "child victim interview expert?"

Prentis feigned a sigh. "We wish we didn't have to be here."

He nodded. "So do we, but nonetheless, you are welcome."

He turned and pointed at a school near the church. "The children are in school as I indicated."

Daniella nods. "Thank you."

They walked ahead while Reid stayed behind and looked around. He looked at the solar panels and pointed at them.

"You're using solar power?" Reid asked.

Yeah, we're completely self-sufficient. electricity, food, and water. "Ben Franklin said God helps those that help themselves," Cyrus said, turning to him. "You look surprised."

Reid shook his head. "No, uh, impressed actually."

"Thank you."

Reid furrowed his eyebrows. "For what?"

"For admitting that."

He motioned toward the school, and Reid followed behind him. They walked into a room, and Daniella sat down to start her interview.

The girl looked at Daniella. "We go to school, we do our chores, and we treat ourselves and each other with the respect that God demands."

Prentiss nods. "But you've never been out of the ranch?"

She shook her head, and her mother butted in. "I brought Jessie here when she was 2."

Reid looked at Jessica and Prentiss turned to Daniella, who narrowed her eyes a bit.

"You've talked to lots of children in your work. Tell me, are their lives somehow better than ours? " The girl asked

Her mother looked at them. "We devote ourselves to God. That doesn't mean we're not devoted to our children. "

Daniella sighed and turned to the girl's mother. "We are not here because of your religious beliefs."

"Then why are you here?" Jessica asked.

Prentiss looked at Reid, and Daniella answered.

"We received a phone call alleging that an adult male member of your church was having inappropriate relations with the younger women here."

This upset the girl. "You're talking about Cyrus?"

Prentiss turned to her and her mother seemed unsteady.

"What makes you say that?" Prentiss asked.

Her mother tried to get Jessica to stand up. "Jessie, come on."

Daniella was about to say something when Jessica brushed her mother off and turned to them.

"Is it inappropriate for a husband to share a bed with his wife?"

Reid looked at her in disbelief and they were all in shock. Daniella felt as if she was going to be sick.

"You are married to Cyrus?" Prentiss asked.

She nodded with a small smile. "Yes," Cyrus is my husband and a prophet. It's an honor to bear his children. "

"Jessica, you're 15 years old," Reid sighed. "The state of Colorado requires parental consent."

Daniella looked at Jessica's mother. "She gave consent."

A guy with a gun walked in, and Daniella jumped back a bit. Reid moved her closer to him as the lady grabbed her daughter.

"Get up! Get up! "

"You heard him, come on."

Prentiss looked at them and slowly stood up. She turned to Reid and Daniella, and they were just as shocked.

"Check them," one of the guys said.

"What's going on?" Nancy asked as she walked towards the others.

A guy searched Daniella, Prentiss, and Reid and walked over to Nancy as he searched her.

"We just got a very strange phone call from a news reporter ," Cyrus said, looking at them. Is there anything you want to tell me about? A raid, maybe? "

"A raid?" Prentiss asked.

He turned to Reid and Daniella, who looked more confused than ever.

"They don't know," he muttered.

Many SUV's were rushing into the ranch and many men came out in gear and with guns. Some of them hid behind cars and ducked near trees, while some ran straight to the door.

"State police! We have a warrant! "

They searched the premises, checking one of the classrooms before going into another, finally realizing it was empty.

"Team one to team two, be advised the school is empty. We have not secured the children."

The women and children were passing through the tunnel, and Nancy was behind Prentiss.

"What's going on?" Nancy asked.

Reid turned a bit before following everyone.

"I don't know, just stay calm."

Cyrus followed behind them shortly while the police searched the school. The men of the ranch began to shoot at the police, and the police reacted immediately. The women and children stayed close together, and they were all frightened at the sound of the gunshots.

"All right, move quietly," Cyrus called out. "Quickly, go to the left. Everybody stays together. "

Reid helped Daniella out of the tunnel and kept her near him with his hand slightly on her back. Prentiss and Nancy stood next to them.

"Everybody stays together. "Children, listen to your parents," Cyrus said calmly. "All right, everyone. At this end, Have faith. "

They walked a bit to stay behind the group, and they saw boxes and many guns.

Prentiss turned to Reid. "Where did all these guns come from?"

Reid shook his head. "I don't know. "Garcia checked with the state police."

Cyrus kept moving the children to their parents, and he looked to see if anyone was missing.

"Stay calm, remain together."

Daniella and Prentiss looked around to see panic in everyone. Daniella's eyes darkened, seeing the children cling onto their parents, taking her back to memory lane.

"This is ridiculous," Nancy said.

She was panicked, and it was very noticeable. Daniella touched her arm slightly, and she gave her a small smile.

"It's okay, just calm down," Prentiss nodded.

One of the guys whispered something to Cyrus, and he sighed. "Stay calm, God will protect you."

He looked at everyone once more before leaving with a few men. They observed everyone's behavior, and Nancy turned to them.

"It's the state police," Nancy said. "I'm an officer of the state."

Daniella shook her head. "Well, there's nothing we can do right now."

Nancy nodded stubbornly. "I can talk to him."

"No, you can't. It's dangerous, "Prentiss said.

She turned in the crowd of children, and Daniella followed her along with Prentiss and Reid.

"Nancy, stop!" She sighed as she tried to grab Nancy.

Nancy ran into the church, and Reid grabbed her by the waist to prevent her from following her. A guy with a gun stepped in front of them, and they sighed.

Daniella hid her hand from Reid and looked at the men.

Cyrus came back a few minutes later.

"Do not fear. "We are on the side of the righteous."

Prentiss approached him."Where's Lunde?"

Cyrus looked at them. "It wasn't us."

Prentiss looked at him. "What?! You can't shoot it out with the cops, you have children here! "

"I didn't start this," Cyrus said, turning to his men. "I take the roof, you take the tunnel."

The police were having a hard time shooting it out with the men. Cyrus told them to pull back and the police immediately got into their SUV's.

Daniella's vision blurred a bit, and Reid caught her before she swayed, her lack of sleep taking over and making it her weakness. He sat down on the floor with her, and Prentiss looked at them.

They're pulling out! They're pulling out! "

Reid looked at her before looking up at Prentiss.

"Not for long."
