Demi'sPOV

After the doctor had finished running tests, I was able to get Kenzie to settle down, and she eventually went to sleep while waiting for test results. "Ms. Lovato," the doctor whispered to get my attention while poking her head through the door. I looked to Kenzie to make sure she was still asleep, then followed the doctor out of the door. "All tests came back, and everything looks fine. She will be in pain a lot, but I was suspecting that you already knew that." I nodded. "Other than that, she is just fine. We'll let her eat when-"

"Mommy!"

The doctor had been cut off by screaming.

I immediately ran into Kenzie's room and to her side. "Don't leave me!" She screamed while holding her arms out. I finally made it to her and hugged her. She continued to cry on my shoulder. "Don't leave me," she repeated.

"Never, Kenzie. Never," I repeated over and over again. "I'm right here," I whispered in her ear as she kept crying.

Eventually, Kenzie fell back asleep with me laying in her bed beside her. Her face was tear-stained. I hated seeing her like this. She didn't deserve any of this. It wasn't fair. At these thoughts, tears formed in my eyes. I let a few drop before the doctor came back into the room, then I wiped them off. I maneuvered myself away from Kenzie, and got out of the bed. "We're going to keep her one more night, but she should be able to go home with you in the morning," the doctor said quietly as we talked beside Kenzie's bed. I didn't want to leave the room again.

After the doctor gave me more details, Kenzie started wake up. I made my way back to her side so she could see me when she opens her eyes. Her little eyelashes fluttered as she opened her eyes. "Hey, baby," I whispered.

"Can we go home?" Kenzie asked.

"Soon," I answered.

"When? Mommy, I want to go home," she said as her voice cracked and tears formed in her eyes.

"Tomorrow morning," I said as I looked up at the doctor, who watched silently.

"Why can't we go home now?" By now, Kenzie had streams of tears falling down her face. I wiped her cheeks with my thumb and kissed her forehead.

"They're just making sure they're doing everything they can to help. You'll be okay." Kenzie sniffled and nodded.

"Are you hungry?" The doctor finally spoke. Kenzie looked at me, and I gave her a small, reassuring smile. She looked back up at the doctor and nodded. "Okay, I'll be right back."

The doctor left, and Kenzie looked back at me. "Mommy, it hurts," she whispered.

"I know," I said sympathetically as I patted her hand.

Shortly after, the doctor came back, carrying a tray of chicken nuggets and apple juice. "Are you in any pain?" The doctor asked.

Kenzie looked at me, and I could tell she was embarrassed. "She told me she was," I answered for her."

"Okay, let's see what we can do about that." The doctor opened the medicine cabinet and took out a bottle. She poured some of the liquid medicine into a little measuring cup, then handed it Kenzie, who hesitantly took it. She drank it, then her face puckered up. "I know, it's kind of gross." The doctor put the cup in the sink, then put the medicine back from where it came from. "Does ice cream sound good?" The doctor asked. Kenzie's eyes lit up and she nodded shyly. "Okay, eat, I'll bring ice cream. Vanilla or chocolate?"

Kenzie looked at me, and I already knew what she wanted. "Chocolate."

I didn't leave Kenzie's side throughout the night. After the doctor had left her for the night, I crawled into her bed and let her curl up into my side. I was never going to let her out of my sight again.
