Demi's POV

The bright light coming through the window hurt my eyes as I woke up. I looked at the time on my phone, and it was already after ten o'clock. I let my eyes adjust to the sun before getting out of bed to check on Kenzie. I peaked in her room, and she was sitting on her bed with her back towards me. I heard soft whimpers coming from her. "Kenzie?" I asked quietly. She whipped her head around, and I saw her tear-stained face. It looked like she had been crying for a while. She turned back and dropped her head in her hands. I went around the bed so I was facing her. "Kenzie, what's wrong?" I asked in almost a whisper.

"I-I'm s-sorry," she said.

"What happened?"

"I was b-bad," she replied, not looking up. I put my fingers under her chin and brought her head up she was looking at me.

"Sweetheart, tell me what happened," I said softly. She was scaring me. I didn't know if it was a dream, or if she was hurt. She hesitantly moved the bed-covers back to reveal a big wet spot where she was laying.

"I d-din't mean t-to," she said as new tears started to form in her eyes.

"I know you didn't mean to. I'm not mad."

"You're not?" Kenzie asked, still scared. I shook my head as I tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear.

"Come on, let's get you cleaned up. I say you're due for a bath, anyway," I said with a small smile, which she didn't return. She just nodded and followed me into the bathroom. I washed her hair, then let her wash her body. Her cuts were turning into light scars. The ones on her hands are barely noticeable. You'd only see them if you already knew they were there, or if you were looking closely. After getting her dried off and into some clothes, I brushed out her hair.  She needed a hair cut, at least to get rid of her dead ends. Then I brought her to the kitchen for breakfast/lunch. I gave her some peanut better toast and half and banana. I ate the other half with my own toast.

"Becca!" Kenzie called out half way through her meal. She jumped out of her seat and ran to her room, returning with her doll. She sat the doll down on the stack of books from the night before, and continued eating.

I had been thinking about what to do today. I wanted to get out with Kenzie, but I was nervous of how she would take being around a lot of other people. It was too cold to do anything outside, so I was hoping we could walk around the mall. There's a lot of fun kid things there, so she wouldn't get bored too fast. I know I just bought her a bunch of new things, but there's nothing wrong with just looking. "So, I was hoping we could get out today," I said once we were both done eating.

"Where?" Kenzie asked.

"Just walking around in the mall. There's a lot of cool things there."

"Okay," she said nodding. "When?"

"Whenever you want to."

She hopped off her chair and grabbed her doll. "Can Becca come, too?"

"Of course, but you have to hold her the whole time. You can't leave her anywhere or else she might get lost."

"I will never leave her," she said, looking down at the doll. She scurried off to get ready.

"Make sure you brush your teeth," I called out to her as she ran to her room. She looked at me and nodded before going in. I got ready myself, getting dressed, brushing my hair and teeth, and finally getting my shoes on. I walked back into the living room to find Kenzie waiting for me, holding her dressed doll. "Ready to go?" I asked, grabbing my car keys. She nodded and followed me out the door. I was really hoping she wasn't going to freak out around people.
