A Look Back

by Trisha M. Sansalian

Here I am reminiscing

While the cold wind is whistling.

It was a freezing cold night

And the cold wind is hugging me so tight.

When I felt my blanket wrapped its arms around me

The waves of memories appears when I was still three.

I was cuddling with my pillow

When I saw the trees waving at my window.

Lightning danced across the sky

That scares me, I want to cry.

From the author:

My poetry is about my memories when I was still a kid. Cold nights comforts me but at the same time it scares me. My memories reminds me of how weak I used to be, but they also remind me of my progress to be the person that I am today. I chose personification in my poem because I feel that it will give justice on how I will give life to the whole content by giving a striking impact to the poem itself.

I use the words whistling, wrapping/hugging, waving and dancing in bringing action and life to my subjects. Using personification establishes a connection between the reader and the personified object. It can help readers understand, sympathize with, or react emotionally to non-human characters by making descriptions of non-human phenomena more realistic.
