Snape lead Harry, Ginny, Ron and Lockhart to Dumbledore's office. They were all covered in slime and dirt. Though Harry had some blood on his arm after Fawkes healed the wound where the fang pierced him. Snape enters the office as Ron moves Lockhart to the side. Harry and Ginny stands just inside the doorway of the office as they look at Dumbledore. Mrs. Weasley shouts, "Ginny!" She hugs Ginny as Mr. Weasley goes to his feet and hugs her as well. Ron goes and hugs his family. Harry however was staring at Dumbledore. McGonagall was there, with her hand on her chest as she takes in gasps of air. Fawkes flew in and lands on his perch, which was next to Dumbledore's desk. Mrs. Weasley hugs Harry tightly and said, "You saved her! You saved her! How did you do it?" McGonagall said,"I think we'd all like to know that." Mrs. Weasley lets him go and smiles tearfully. Harry goes up to Dumbledore's desk and puts the sword and sorting hat on it. Snape takes out the diary and lays it on the desk as well. Harry explains how he heard the disembodied voice. How Hermione had finally realized that he was hearing a basilisk in the pipes. How he and Ron had followed the spiders into the forest. Snape eyes Harry who looks apologetically back at Snape, before continuing. He explains how Aragog had told them where the last victim of the basilisk had died. How he had guessed that Moaning Myrtle had been the victim, and that the entrance to the Chamber of Secrets might be in her bathroom. He also told them how he and Snape saved Ginny. McGonagall said, "Very well. So, you found out where the entrance was,but how on earth did you all get out of there alive, Harry?" So Harry told them about Fawkes's timely arrival and about the Sorting Hat giving him the sword. But then he faltered. He had so far avoided mentioning Riddle's diary or Ginny. She was standing with her head against Mrs. Weasley's shoulder, and tears were still falling silently down her cheeks. Harry thought, 'What if they expelled her? Riddle's diary didn't work anymore. How could they prove it had been he who'd made her do it all?' Dumbledore said, "What interests me the most, is how Lord Voldemort managed to enchant Ginny. When my sources tell me that he is currently in hiding, in the forests of Albania." Dumbledore understood Harry without Harry having to tell him about the diary and Ginny.Harry felt relieved. Mr. Weasley said, "What's that? You-Know-Who? Enchant Ginny? But Ginny's not.... Ginny hasn't been.... Has she?" Harry said as he picks up the diary and shows it to Dumbledore. "It was this diary. Riddle wrote in it when he was sixteen...." Dumbledore takes the diary from Harry and looks down at the diary. Dumbledore said softly, "Brilliant.... Of course, he was probably the most brilliant student Hogwarts has ever seen." He said to the Weasley, "Very few people know that Lord Voldemort was once called Tom Riddle. I taught him myself, fifty years ago, at Hogwarts. He disappeared after leaving the school. He traveled far and wide.... He sank so deeply into the Dark Arts, consorted with the very worst of our kind, underwent so many dangerous, magical transformations, that when he resurfaced as Lord Voldemort, he was barely recognizable. Hardly anyone connected Lord Voldemort with the clever, handsome boy who was once Head Boy here." Mrs. Weasley said, "But Ginny.... What's our Ginny got to do with him?" Ginny said, sobbing, "His diary! I've been writing in it, and he's been writing back all year...." Mr. Weasley said shocked, "Ginny! Haven't I taught you anything? What have I always told you? Never trust anything that can think for itself. If you can't see where it keeps its brain. Why didn't you show the diary to me, or your mother? A suspicious object like that, it was clearly full of Dark Magic." Ginny said, sobbing, "I didn't know. I found it inside my cauldron. I thought someone had just left it in there and forgotten about it." Dumbledore interrupted in a firm voice, "Miss Weasley should go up to the hospital wing right away. This has been a terrible ordeal for her. There will be no punishment. Older and wiser wizards than she have been hoodwinked by Lord Voldemort." He walks over to the door and opens it, "Bed rest and perhaps a large, steaming mug of hot chocolate. I always find that cheers me up." He smiles at Ginny and said, "You will find that Madam Pomfrey is still awake. She has just given out Mandrake juice to her patients. I daresay the basilisk's victims will be waking up any moment." Ron said hopefully, "So, Hermione is ok?" Dumbledore nods in response. Mrs. Weasley leads Ginny out, and Mr. Weasley follows, still looking shaken. 

Professor Dumbledore said thoughtfully to McGonagall, "You know, Minerva, I think all this merits a good feast. Might I ask you to go and alert the kitchens?" Professor McGonagall said crisply, as she moves to the door, "Right, I'll leave you to deal with Potter and Weasley, shall I?" Dumbledore said, "Certainly." She leaves to talk to the house elves in the kitchen. Harry and Ron looks uncertainly at Dumbledore. Are they going to be punished? Dumbledore said, "I seem to remember telling you both that I would have to expel you, if you both broke any more school rules. Which goes to show that the best of us must sometimes eat our words." Dumbledore smiles at them as he continues, "You will both receive Special Awards for Special Services to the School and let me see, yes, I think two hundred points apiece for Gryffindor." Snape smiles proudly at Harry, his dark eyes glittering. Harry looks shocked at Dumbledore as Ron goes pink in the face. Dumbledore looks at Snape and smiles. He looks at Lockhart and said, "But one of us seems to be keeping mightily quiet about his part in this dangerous adventure. Why so modest, Gilderoy?" They look at Lockhart as Snape smirks. Lockhart looked over his shoulder to see who Dumbledore was talking to. Ron said quickly,"Professor Dumbledore,there was an accident down in the Chamber of Secrets. Professor Lockhart...." Lockhart said, looking surprised, "Am I a professor? Goodness. I expect I was hopeless, was I?" Ron explains, "He tried to do a Memory Charm and the wand backfired." Dumbledore said, shaking his head, "Dear me, impaled upon your own sword, Gilderoy." Lockhart said dimly, "Sword? I haven't got a sword. That boy has, though." He points at Harry, "He'll lend you one." Dumbledore said to Ron, "Would you mind taking Professor Lockhart up to the infirmary, too? I'd like a few more words with Harry...."Ron looks curiously at Dumbledore as he leads Lockhart out of the office. Ron closes the door leaving Harry and Snape alone with Dumbledore. Dumbledore said, "First of all, I want to thank you, Harry. You must have shown me real loyalty down in the chamber. Nothing but that could have called Fawkes to you. Second, I sense that something is troubling you. Am I right, Harry?" Harry said, "It's just.... You see sir, I couldn't help but notice certain things. Certain similarities between Tom Riddle and me." Snape sighs quietly, he saw the similarities as well, but Harry was far better than Voldemort. In more ways than one. Dumbledore said, "I see. Well, you can speak parseltongue, Harry. Why? Because Lord Voldemort can speak parseltongue. If I'm not mistaken, Harry, he transferred some of his powers to you. The night he gave you that scar." Harry looks at Dumbledore, "Voldemort transferred some of his powers to me?" Dumbledore said, "Uh huh. Not intentionally, but yes." Dumbledore goes around his desk and sits down. Harry said, "So the sorting hat was right. I should be in Slytherin." The only other person that knew about the sorting hat wanting to put Harry into Slytherin house, was Snape. Now Dumbledore knew. Dumbledore said, "It's true, Harry. You possess many of the qualities that Voldemort himself prizes. Determination, resourcefulness and if I may say so, a certain disregard for the rules." Harry smiles slightly as Dumbledore said, "Why then, did the sorting hat place you in Gryffindor house?" Harry said, "Because I asked it to." Dumbledore said, "Exactly, Harry. Exactly. Which makes you different from Voldemort. It is not our abilities that shows us who we truly are, it is our choices." Dumbledore picks up the sword from the hilt and said, "If you want proof as to why you belong in Gryffindor, then I suggest you look more closely at this." He hands Harry the sword. Harry takes it as Dumbledore said, "Be careful." Harry looks at the sword and sees a named engraved on it. The name on the sword said: Godric Gryffindor. The founder of Gryffindor house and the school. Harry said in awe, "Godric Gryffindor...." Dumbledore smiles, "It would take a true gryffindor to pull that out of the hat." Snape smiles at Harry as Harry looks in awe at the sword.

Suddenly the office door opens. Dumbledore, Harry and Snape look to see Lucius entering the office, with none other than Dobby the House Elf! Harry said, "Dobby... So this is your master. The family you serve is the Malfoys." Lucius glares down at Dobby and said, "I'll deal with you later." Dobby looks up at his master, looking scared. Lucius walks up to Dumbledore. He pushes Harry out of the way with his staff as he said, "Out of the way, Snape." Harry glares at Lucius as he moves out of the way. Snape watches Lucius with narrow eyes. Lucius said, "So it's true. You have returned." Dumbledore said, "When the governors learned that Arthur Weasley's daughter was taken into the chamber, they saw fit to summon me back." Lucius said incredulously, "Ridiculous!" Dumbledore said, "Curiously Lucius, several of them were under the impression that you would curse their families, if they did not agree to suspend me in the first place." Lucius said, sounding offended, "How dare you!" Dumbledore said calmly, "I beg your pardon?" Lucius said, "My sole concern has always been and always will be, the welfare of this school, and of course, its students." Lucius looks at Harry for a moment, before turning back to Dumbledore. He said, "The culprit has been identified, I presume?" Dumbledore nods, "Ah yes." Lucius said impatiently, "And? Who is it?" Dumbledore said, "Voldemort." Lucius looks taken aback slightly, but recovers as he said, "Ah." Dumbledore said, "Only this time, he chose to act through somebody else, by means of this." Dumbledore shows Lucius the ink soaked diary. Lucius said, rather uncomfortably, "I see...." Dobby tugs at Harry's pants. Harry looks down and watches as Dobby nods towards the book, then towards Lucius, before hitting himself in the head. It only took a minute for Harry to figure it out. Dumbledore said, "Fortunately, our young Mr. Snape discovered it. One hopes that no more of Lord Voldemort's old school things should find their way into innocent hands. The consequences for the one responsible, would be severe." Lucius said, coldly, "Well, let us hope..." He looks at Harry as he continues, "That Mr. Snape will always be around to save the day." Harry glares back at Lucius as Snape continues to watch Lucius through narrow eyes. Harry said, "Don't worry, I will be." Lucius looks back at Dumbledore and said, coldly, "Dumbledore." Dumbledore nods in response. Lucius turns and said, "Come, Dobby. We're leaving." As Dobby moves in front of Lucius, Lucius takes the opportunity to kick Dobby, sending him sprawling to the floor. Dobby yelps in pain as he gets back up and rubs his elbow. Lucius sharply taps his head with his staff, which makes Dobby yelp slightly. As they leave the office. Snape glares at Lucius. He never liked how Lucius treated his house elves. Even if one particular house elf, named Dobby, was enthusiastic about meeting Harry. Harry seems to have been thinking the same thing when he turns to Dumbledore and said, "Sir? I I wonder if I could have that?" Snape smirks, he knew what Harry was thinking. Dumbledore nods and said, "But bring it back when you are finished with it, Harry." Harry smiles, "I will sir." Dumbledore smiles as Harry sets the sword down and pick up the diary. He looks at Snape and said, "Are you thinking what I'm thinking dad?" Snape smirks, "I do, Harry. Let's give Dobby his freedom. He sure deserves it, after the way Lucius treats him." Harry nods as he and Snape leave Dumbledore's office. Harry slips his sock into the diary and closes it. Snape said, "Very clever, Harry. Are you sure you don't belong in my house?" Harry smiles, "I'm sure dad." Snape chuckles as he said, "I must be rubbing off on you." Harry chuckles as they go after Lucius. They catch up to Lucius as they see him walking away with Dobby walking behind him. Snape stands near the gargoyle with his arms crossed, smirking. Harry shouts, "Mr. Malfoy!" Lucius turns around as Dobby stands near Harry. Harry said, "I have something of yours." Lucius said, "Mine? I don't know what your talking about." Harry said, "Oh, I think you do sir. I think you slipped the diary into Ginny Weasley's caulron. That day in Diagon Alley." Lucius said coldly, "You do, do you? Why don't you prove it!" Lucius hands the diary to Dobby, who takes it. Lucius smirks at Harry, then turns his back on him and said, "Come Dobby." He starts to walk away, not realizing that Dobby had stopped walking. Harry whispers, "Open it." Dobby opens it to find a sock in the diary. Dobby's eyes widen as he takes the sock out and starts to smile. Lucius realizing that Dobby wasn't following him, said, "Dobby?" Dobby said, "Master has given Dobby a sock." Lucius said annoyed as he turns around, "What? I didn't give...." His face went from annoyed to shock when he realizes that Harry freed Dobby. Dobby said, happily, "Master has presented Dobby with clothes. Dobby is free!" Lucius said angrily, "You lost me my servant!" He pulls out his wand from his staff. Snape goes for his wand as Lucius points his wand at Harry, a curse on his lips. Dobby moves in front of Harry and said, "You shall not harm Harry Snape!" Dobby uses his magic to blast Lucius off of his feet, sending him several feet away from them, before landing hard on his back on the floor. Dobby smirks as he crosses his arms and said, "Hmph!" Lucius gets to his feet and puts his wand back into his staff. He said, "Your parents were meddlesome fools, too. Mark my words, Snape! One day soon, you are going to meet the same sticky end!" Lucius pulls his cloak around him and leaves. Dobby turns to Harry and smiles, "Harry Snape freed Dobby. How can Dobby ever repay him?" Harry said, "Just promise me something." Dobby said, "Anything, sir." Harry smiles, "Never try to save my life again." Dobby looks sheepishly at Harry, then smiles. A few minutes later, Dobby leaves with a loud crack. Snape walks up to Harry and stands next to him. He said, "You did a noble thing, Harry." Harry smiles, "I know dad." Snape said, "Let's get cleaned up and head down to the feast. Shall we?" Harry nods, smiling.

Snape lead Harry to his quarters and allows him to wash up. He cleans Harry school robes and places them in the boy's room. After Harry washes up, he heads to his room and gets dressed. Snape washes up and gets dressed in clean robes. They leave the quarters and head to the great hall. Harry enters the great hall and sits with Ron. Snape heads up to the staff table and sits next to Flitwick. Colin was already sitting at the table and Sir Nicholas was floating around talking with the students. Mr. Filch was holding his cat, Mrs. Norris once again. Penelope was sitting with the Ravenclaws, chatting away. Justin was sitting with Ernie and Hannah at the Hufflepuff table. The only one missing was Hermione. After a few minutes, however, Hermione appears in the door way. Neville spots Hermione and said, "Harry! It's Hermione!" Harry and Ron look at the double doors and grins as they see Hermione standing there. Hermione grins back at them as they get out of their seats. Snape smiles as he watches Hermione run to Harry and hugs him. After Hermione hugs Harry, she goes to hug Ron. Ron stops her and holds his hand out, looking nervous. He said, "Um.... Welcome back, Hermione." Hermione smiles and shakes his hand, as she said, "It's good to be back. Congratulations! I can't believe you solved it!" Harry said, "Well, we had loads of help from you. We couldn't have done it without you." Hermione said, "Thanks." McGonagall taps on her glass goblet, making everyone go quiet. She said, "Can I have your attention please?" Everyone looks up as Dumbledore stands to speak. Harry, Ron and Hermione sit down to listen. He said, "Before we begin the feast, let us have a round of applause for Madam Pomfrey, Professor Sprout and Professor Snape, whose mandrake draught has been successfully administered to all who have been petrified." Everyone claps and cheers as Sprout, Madam Pomfrey and Snape stands up and bows. They sit down as Dumbledore continues, "Also, in light of the recent events, as a school treat, all exams have been cancelled." The students cheer louder over this announcement. Snape smiles and shakes his head in spite of himself. Trust Dumbledore to pull something like this. Then again, after what everyone has gone through, it was best not to have exams anyways. Suddenly the double doors open, to reveal Hagrid. Hagrid said, "Sorry I'm late. The owl that delivered my release papers, got all lost and confused. Some ruddy bird named Erroll." Harry laughs as Ron looks sheepishly at his friends. Hagrid stops in front of Harry and said, "I'd just like to say, that if it wasn't for you Harry, and Ron, and Hermione of course, I would still be at you-know-where. So, I'd just like to say thanks." Harry stands up and said, "There's no Hogwarts without you, Hagrid." Harry hugs Hagrid, who hugs him back. Dumbledore stands up and claps for Hagrid, followed by McGonagall and Snape. The rest of the staff soon followed suit. Harry claps, which has all the students clapping for Hagrid. All but Malfoy, Crabbe and Goyle. After everyone claps and cheers for Hagrid, they all resume eating and chatting. After the feast ends, Dumbledore sends them up to their dorms. Before long, school ends and on a high note as well. Gryffindor won the house cup once again. Students packed their trunks and bags, ready to go home the following day. The next day Harry was at Hogsmeade Station with Snape. Harry was hugging Ron and Hermione as they said their good byes. Hermione and Ron climbed aboard the Hogwarts Express and found a compartment for themselves. After putting their trunks and bag away, they open the window and wave out at Harry and Snape as the warning whistle blows. Once all the student were aboard the Hogwarts Express, the conductor said, "All Aboard!" The conductor goes back into the train. The train starts to move as Ron and Hermione wave. Harry keeps waving until the train disappears, taking Ron and Hermione to King Cross Station. Harry looks at Snape, "I'm never going to have a normal day at Hogwarts, am I?" Snape chuckles, "No, Harry. I don't think you will. Merlin knows what will happen next year." Harry chuckles as Snape said, "Ready to go home, Harry?" Harry nods, "I am, dad. Let's go home." Harry takes hold of Snape's arm as they disapprate home.
