Painful memories

~Dabi's pov~

2 years have passed already. Since the 'accident'. It was as if time had slowed down. Dabi could only watch as Hawks disappeared over the edge. As the colour fades from those bright golden eyes. Hawks' death was all his fault. If only he had known Hawks would do something so rash. Dabi would do anything to get him back. But it was too late. Hawks was dead.

It was as if someone had teared down all of his mental defenses. For once, Dabi was just as vulnerable as everyone else.

Every night was spent staring blankly out the window of his small room at the L.O.V headquarters. As time passed, Dabi would think of all the past regrets. It was pathetic, really. Someone like him didn't deserve anything. Life gave him Hawks, and instead of cherishing it, Dabi practically made him commit suicide. He just didn't know what to do anymore.

Love has always been a weakness for Dabi, but this time he feared that he went too far. Hawks has always been sensitive, especially with his rough childhood. Another possibility popped into his head. If Hawks was still alive, who knows what he'll be like? For all he knows, Hawks could be a villain now. Dabi took a deep breath. No. He would do whatever it takes to find Hawks. This time, Dabi wasn't gonna make the same mistakes again.

A loud ping broke the uncomfortable silence. Dabi looked down. It was a message from Shigaraki.

~Shigaraki~ ~Dabi~

I've got a new task for you

Yeah?

Our partner is looking for the newest version of the Shie Hassaikai clan's quirk drugs. The money's on the counter and Toga is going with you

Sure whatever

Dabi rolled his eyes. Why did he have to do every single mission with that crazy psychopath? He just couldn't stand it when that weirdo started to go on about true love or some other bullshit. Easing off the bed, he started to make his way towards the bar. Sure enough, Toga was sitting on one of the stools, swinging her legs up and down. So childish.

"Oh hey Dabi!"

He glanced at her and smirked.

"Hi crazy."

Now, you might be fooled by Toga's appearance. After all, what could a teen no older than 19 possibly do? Wrong. Not only does she enjoy stalking people, Toga also loves to inflict pain on others, especially when there's lots of blood. Dabi was usually fine with this, but lately there was just too much 'love' going on in her conversations.

"Dabi~"Toga suddenly said in a sing-song voice.

He sighed. Here we go again.

"Someone's in love~"

"Shut up psycho. You don't know anything."

He could feel his blood rushing through his veins. Dabi cursed, trying to contain his anger before storming out of the pub. Everything just seemed so dim. So lifeless. There was really no point in being here. Nothing mattered anymore. Just Hawks. I mean, they didn't find his body, so technically he wasn't dead. He couldn't be. Right?

~Hawks pov~

These few years didn't exactly go in a blur, but gosh time had passed quickly. Hawks had always wondered why they didn't just kill him. Wouldn't it be easier? Or was this his punishment. For betraying everyone,  like the coward he is. He closed his eyes. Hawks could feel the fresh burn marks littered everywhere on his body slowly bleeding out until there was barely any blood left. After going through the days 'experiments', many of his old scars were also reopened, making his only white t-shirt a crimson colour.

It was fine though. Hawks deserved this. Or at least that's what he told himself everyday, just to stay sane. This was fine. Hawks stared blankly at the bars of his cell. He could feel the last of his energy go down the drain, along with his other thoughts. It felt like his head was gonna burst.

The place they kept Hawks in was not grand but not run-down either. Exactly 2 years ago, after Hawks had quite literally fallen off a building, his so-called saviors had picked him off the side of the road. Even now, Hawks had no idea who they were and where they are. It wasn't as if it mattered, but still, knowing something useful would be great. All Hawks knew was that after Kai Chisaki had made those quirk drugs, the other villains of Japan were slowly making experiments of their own. Experiments like Hawks.

On about the second day Hawks got transported here, some weird people in lab coats injected this quirk-giving drug into him, not knowing that he already had a quirk. So instead of getting a whole nother quirk, he simply regrew his wings, except they were black.

Now, if you thought that they stopped there, I'm sorry to say, but you're wrong. Every single moment was just more pain for Hawks. There was all kinds of tests done in the span of 2 years. Tests that left Hawks unable to move for months, that made him even too scared to speak. No breaks in between. Just pain. It was a dog eat dog world after all.

Now only one question burned brightly at the back of his mind. Why was he still alive?
