Side Story - Shinsou

"Is that the coin?!"

"How do we know you didn't steal it?!"

"I know you! You're that con artist who-"

"Everyone shut up!"

Shinsou gritted his teeth and sneered at the crowd, holding up the coin even higher.

"I stand before you fools to tell you the truth! Have any of you even seen one of these coins with your own eyes?"

The quiet answers amongst the crowds suddenly became silent. Focus. Shinsous frown turned into a smirk as he continued talking.

"That's better. You all know this coin is the real thing, because I'm telling you it is. So who wants it?"

Suddenly the entire city center erupted with screams and shouts from the crowd. People were climbing over each other and struggling to make their way to Shinsou, begging for the coin and trampling anyone that got in their way. The purple haired boy groaned internally as he looked off in the distance, his grip on the chimney he held onto tightening. He could see the three that had jumped him running off away from the square, and he sighed, shaking his head as he looked at the fake, golden Mirag coin Kirishima Eijirou had given him.

"Fools...none of them can even tell."

Even the guards fell useless to Shinsou, either falling for his hypnosis, or trying to fight back the others who did. Either way, the square was chaos. After another minute of listening to the screams and cries of people struggling to get to him, Shinsou pocketed the coin and jumped down the opposite side of the roof. He jogged for a moment, sprinting and leaping across a gap between buildings, and began to parkour his way out of sight.

"Just have to...get out of here before Sensei shows up-"

"Too late."

Shinsou ran by another chimney, time slowing down as he looked over and saw the black haired man leaning against it. Aizawa smirked as Shinsou yelped and tripped, falling against the roof and rolling towards the edge. He used his scarf to wrap around anything sticking out of the roof, another chimney, a pipe, something, but he couldn't find anything. He grinded his teeth as he saw the edge of the roof, preparing to catch himself if he fell, but he didn't.

"You can't even save yourself now? Are you that out of it today?"

Aizawa threw his own scarf forward, wrapping it around Shinsou and pulling the purple haired boy to a stop. Shinsou held his breath until he knew he was stable, sighing loudly as the scarf unwrapped itself from him. He panted, staring down at the roofs shingles and closing his eyes tiredly. Aizawa slowly came closer, kicking the boy gently until he was flipped over on his back, and crouched down.

"Get up."

"G-Give me a minute.."

Shinsou slowly sat up, coughing as blood dripped down from his nose. He could taste the irony fluid in his mouth and he groaned, coughing and spitting the blood off to the side. Aizawa shook his head and stood back up, crossing his arms like a disappointed parent.

"Let's get you home, and you can tell me everything, because I want to know why you decided to pull a stunt like that."

"Yes...Sensei."

Shinsou stumbled to his feet and cracked his neck, stretching and cracking his back as he followed Aizawa, carefully jumping from rooftop to building, until they were back down in one of the hundreds of dim alleyways. Aizawa waited for his scarf to fully wrap back around himself, reaching for the door handle, before whipping his head back to look at Shinsou.

The boy was a mess, scraped up and covered in dirt with a bloodied nose and irritation in his eyes. Shinsou glared back, until he saw the red hue beginning to shine in the darkness.

"If you come in looking like that, she's going to cry again. Either sneak in, or clean yourself up out here. Your choice."

"Yeah, I know...I'll be careful, Sensei."

Aizawa stared back tiredly before opening the door, heading into their house as Shinsou quietly followed. As soon as the door shut, they both heard the soft but quick footsteps from the other side. Shinsou ducked down and around the corner, waiting for the little girl to run up to Aizawa before sneaking towards his room.

"Papa! Papa look what I drew! It's you flying around the city!"

"That's nice, kiddo, but I don't fly, I just project myself and use this scarf to swing ar-"

Aizawa felt Shinsous glare on him from down the hall, and he sighed.

"Thank you, Eri. I do love flying around the city."

The little girl named Eri smiled widely up at Aizawa, giggling as he crouched down to her level to ruffle her hair. She was young, maybe five or six, and she was pretty smart for her age, but sometimes Aizawa would forget just how little kids could comprehend on their own. He'd teach her some day, but Shinsou always tried to have him just let her be a kid.

"Did brother not come back yet?"

"No, but I found out he was bullying someone again, so when he comes back, be sure to really give it to him, okay, Eri?"

"Right!"

The girl puffed out her cheeks and balled her hands into fists, glaring up at Aizawa as he chuckled and stood back up.

"Let's go draw some more until he arrives, hm?"

"Sure! You're really good at drawing, Papa!"

Aizawa laughed a little louder and led the child into their kitchen, helping her back into her chair as he sat down across from her. Eri sat up on her knees and used the piece of charcoal she had to doodle on the spare parchment paper. Aizawa held his head up one hand, sighing as he looked at the horn protruding from her head. It wasn't huge, but it wasn't too small to be unnoticed, and it kept her from going out like a normal child.

"I'm going to draw brother next."

"Give him a big head."

"Well duh!"

Aizawa snorted and covered his mouth as he laughed, hearing a quiet crash as Shinsou shifted around his room. The purple haired boy cleaned off his outfit, quickly brushed his dirtied hair, and washed off his face. He didn't have time to fully bathe, but the illusion of cleanliness was all he needed at the moment. He cleaned up his bloody nose, waiting for it to dry up and brush it away before opening his window and climbing out of it. Sneaking around the house, he opened their front door a little louder, stomping in and exaggerating that he was finally home.

"Sensei, I'm home! Where's that little gremlin?"

"I'm not a gremlin!"

The tiny pitter patter of footsteps was back as Eri came around the corner, glaring and puffing out her cheeks. Her red eyes were angry, and attempting to be intimidating, but Shinsou only laughed, speaking in a deep and playful voice.

"Ah, mighty gremlin! What have you done with Princess Eri?!"

"I am Princess Eri! I'm not a gremlin!"

She lunged at Shinsou and he immediately dropped to the floor, pretending to be in immense pain with every little hit and attack she used against him. Eventually he used his scarf to wrap around a hook in the ceiling, picking himself up and grabbing Eri to pull her up with him. He adjusted the scarf to create a makeshift swing, swinging back and forth in the hall as he held onto the small girl.

"I've captured you, tiny gremlin, and I'm not letting you go until you give me back my princess!"

"Gah! I AM the princess! Open up your giant ears!"

"Giant ears?! Princess Eri could that really be you?!"

Shinsou felt a shot to his ego as she tugged on his ears. They weren't giant, damn it. Eri giggled and cried out as their swinging got faster and farther, making large swings from ceiling to ceiling. She clung to Shinsou as he held onto her, chuckling and ruffling her hair.

"And how is my princess doing this afternoon?"

"Papa said you were bullying someone again! Is that true?!"

The swinging slowed down as their distance shrunk, Shinsou rolling his eyes and shaking his head.

"I don't bully people, Sensei just says that because he doesn't want you to like me. He wants to keep us apart, but I'll never let that happen!"

Shinsou shouted the last half of his sentence across the house, hearing a loud 'Hah!' on the other side. Eri crawled up Shinsous torso and climbed onto his shoulders, holding his hair for support as he collected his scarf and rewrapped it around his shoulders, bundling Eri up in it at the same time. He held onto her legs and whistled as he stepped into the kitchen, seeing Aizawa doodling on another sheet of parchment paper. Shinsous eyes trailed down to the draw that was clearly Eris, and he smirked, lifting it up.

"Nice drawing, Sensei."

"Hey, that's mine, not his!"

"Really? It's so good though! I could've sworn..."

Eri tugged on Shinsous hair as he laughed, sitting down at the table and helping her crawl back into her own chair. She grabbed the charcoal and tried to write Shinsous name, nodding as he quietly showed her the right way to spell it.

"So, tell me. What were you doing bothering hundreds of townspeople, disrupting the guards, and carrying one of these around?"

Aizawa held up the small Mirag coin as Shinsous eyes widened. How the hell did he swipe that?! Shinsou felt in his pocket, sighing as he realized it was empty, and ran a hand through his messy hair tiredly.

"That girl we met the other night, (F/N). Well, she's traveling with Bakugou and Kirishima."

"I figured they were, since that was who she was looking for the other night."

"Yeah, well, all three of them decided it was a good idea to ask me for help."

Aizawa hummed and leaned back, pouting slightly as he thought out loud.

"Well, I guess it's nice that you were useful to someone. Shows progress."

"Shut up..."

"What did they need help with?"

Shinsou laid his hands on the table, resting his chin on them as he glanced at Eri, who was now drawing herself. He noticed she was excluding her horn, and his eyelids lowered.

"They needed to escape the city, and the guards were after them. I'm pretty sure it was because people were finding out that they had that coin."

"Did you tell anyone about it?"

"Only you, Sensei."

"Papa?"

Aizawa looked over and answered the girl, Shinsou tilting his head as she spoke.

"Brother has brought up that girl more times than I can count. Does he love her?"

Aizawa held back a laugh as Shinsou sat up quickly, blushing and ruffling his hair in agitation.

"H-Hang on, that's not it! And you can only count to four anyways Eri, that isn't a lot!"

"Hey I can count to ten! Papa has been teaching me!"

The teen growled at the child, ruffling her hair and taking his own piece of charcoal, doodling a small monster and labeling it 'Eri'. She gasped and slammed her hands down on the table, her eyes glowing slightly in the darkness like Aizawas when he was mad.

"Don't be mad at me just because you are in love!"

"How do you even know about that?!"

Shinsou glared at Aizawa who shrugged, a large, smug smirk plastering his unshaven face. Shinsou groaned and wrapped his arms around his head, letting it drop onto the table.

"I don't love her, or any of them, for that matter! If I got a hold of that coin, I could've...I could be helpful."

Aizawas smile slowly faded as Shinsous voice turned into a quiet and embarrassed whisper. He stared off to the other side of the room as he kept his head down, trying not to let his voice crack.

"Those coins can get you anything in the city. I could've gotten us a months supply of food. Eri some warmer clothes, Sensei some new boots. Anything we would have wanted, I could've got, but-"

The boy cut himself off, feeling the tears welling up in his eyes. He knew if he continued to speak, his voice would crack further, and he would probably break down, which he didn't want to do in front of Aizawa or Eri. The black haired man sighed and closed his eyes, speaking matter of factly.

"Eri?"

"Yes, Papa?"

"Are you happy?"

The girl hummed and scribbled in Shinsous hair lightly, trying to make it grey instead of black, and failing.

"I am, yes."

"Would you be happier elsewhere? Without me and Hitoshi?"

Immediately she shook her head, pouting as she tried to detail the sky background.

"Nope. You saved me from Doctor Kai, I wasn't happy there. But I'm happy here! And if I wasn't here, I probably wouldn't get to hang out with brother, or draw!"

She pointed down at the doodle and Aizawa nudged Shinsou with his foot, making the teen look up and over at Eri. The drawing was, again, clearly a childs, but it was also clearly Shinsou, with a much bigger head than he really had. Damn it. He sighed and blinked away any tears that attempted to fall, shaking his head and pulling Eri into his lap, resting his chin on her head.

"You have a point. You are the smartest princess I know, Eri."

"Save your flattery for that (F/N) girl."

Shinsous eye twitched and he glared over at Aizawa, who only shrugged and smirked again.

"Where the hell is she learning this stuff?"

"Probably from you, you don't know how to keep your sarcastic mouth shut around her. Now here."

Aizawa pulled out a bag from one of his many hidden pockets, tossing it to Shinsou. The purple haired boy pouted his lips and tilted his head, taking the bag and feeling the weight of multiple gold coins inside.

"Tell me how many coins are in that bag without looking."

"Hm..."

He felt it, lifting the bag up and down, before setting it lightly on Eri's head, quickly pulling it away when she tried to grab for it.

"I'm going to say...twenty three."

"Twenty two, but close enough. Take that and take Eri to Mirios. I'm sure he'd love to see her."

Aizawa got up from the table, not looking back at Shinsous shocked face as he left the room. Shinsou jumped from his spot, apologizing to Eri as he set her down carefully, before running out into the hall to follow Aizawa.

"Sensei, you can't be serious! Why spend money on a show like Mirios when we need to-"

"Don't you want to be happy?"

Aizawa stood in the doorway of his room, sighing and looking back at Shinsou. His eyes were tired but they looked hopeful, as if he was trying to be nice but didn't want to appear that way.

"I know you like those shows just as much as her, if not more. You're still a child, go act like one."

Shinsou blushed and his grip on the bag tightened, bowing and thanking Aizawa loudly. Aizawa rolled his eyes and waved him off, closing the door to his room. Shinsou looked down at the bag, counting the coins as he walked back into the kitchen, scoffing to himself when he saw twenty three coins. Shinsou looked down at Eri's drawing, seeing her drawing herself with the same scarf that both he and Aizawa used, and he chuckled, ruffling her hair.

"Eri, do you want to go see Uncle Mirio? He's preforming tonight with Tamaki and Nejire, and I know you like to see them as well."

"Can we?! I wanna go!"

"We can, and we will! Anything for Princess Eri!"

Shinsou scooped Eri up in his arms and carried her to her room, kissing her cheeks and talking to her childishly as she struggled out of his arms and onto the floor.

"I can do this myself! I want to wear the white dress to match Uncle Mirio!"

"Okay, okay, but you have to promise you won't get it dirty, alright? Sensei would be mad. He'd turn into a ferocious monster and we'd have to defeat him!"

Shinsou barred his teeth and raised his hands, laughing as Eri climbed up her dresser to grab the dress she wanted.

"Oh please, Papa is too nice to be a monster. Even when he's angry, he's still nice."

Too bad it wasn't like that for Shinsou. The boy sighed and sat down on the bed, staring off as Eri struggled out of her casual dress shirt and skirt, throwing the white ballgown styled dress over her head. She stood up and flipped her hair out, pulling it to the side as Shinsou leaned back over and tied the corset, complimenting how cute she was as he formed the strings into a bow.

"You'll also have to wear your cloak, if others see you like this, they might think you escaped the castle and try to take you back there! Go grab it, and we can go."

"I wanna see Uncle Mirio right now!"

"Then go grab your cloak, you little gremlin."

Shinsou walked out of the room, hearing her shout as she chased after him. Eri made her way to the front door and grabbed her tiny cloak, throwing it on as Shinsou helped adjust it. It would help keep her dress clean, yes, but it was mostly to hide the small horn sticking out from her forehead. Shinsou pretended to ignore it, noticing it had grown larger from just a few days ago. What was it? Even Aizawa wasn't exactly sure.

"You are the most beautiful princess I have ever seen."

"More beautiful than (F/N)?"

"Hey, let's play a game on the way to Uncle Mirios."

"Ooh what game?!"

"The 'Stop bringing (F/N) up game'."

They stepped out into the street and he offered his hand to the small girl, his eye twitching as she smirked back.

"You'll probably lose that game before me, brother."

"You are such a...smart little princess..."

Shinsou groaned and skipped with Eri through the streets, letting her drag him along the way as the streets lights were beginning to be lit, the workers smiling and waving to the two kids. Eventually they got to a small cul de sac filled with permanent tents and stalls, colorful flames and lanterns decorating the air.

"Is Uncle Mirio busy?"

"I'm not sure, let's go see."

They got to the front gate and Shinsou told Eri to stay put, pulling out the small coin bag and paying for their admission. The second he got their small ticket papers, Eri ran off, forcing Shinsou to chase after her. He grabbed her and pulled her into his arms, growling at her as she shouted and pointed up ahead of them.

"Nejire is flying brother look! We almost missed it!!"

She cried out in excitement as Shinsou looked up to see the older, light purple haired female. She was part of the performance, spinning and dancing in the air as if she were flying. Shinsou was aware of their party tricks though; the last time they had come was with Aizawa, and he had quietly explained how each illusion worked for him. Her dress was elegant and mystical, perfectly complimenting her as she twirled around the sun setting sky.

"Nejire!!"

She looked down and saw Eris face hidden under the small cloak hood, and her smile widened. As soon as her performance ended and the crowd had begun to disperse, she jumped down from the stage and ran over to the two, picking Eri up and nuzzling her face against the small childs.

"Eri! You're so cute! How are my favorite visitors?"

"Papa let us come tonight! Brother said you and Uncle Mirio and Uncle Tamaki were preforming!"

Nejire smiled widely and hugged Eri closer, greeting Shinsou as he blushed and looked away.

"It was so nice of you two to visit. Oh, oh Mirio will be so happy. It looks busy, but today has been so slow. I think something happened down in one of the main squares?"

"Y-Yeah, something like that."

Shinsou felt his lip twitch as Nejire put Eri down, taking her hand and pointing over to one of the back tents.

"They're actually performing together tonight, want to go watch? I have some time before the next show."

"Yes! Do you want to see my dress? I wore my white one today to match Uncle Mirio! I should've worn my blue one to match you..."

Nejire laughed and ruffled her hair, quickly fixing her hood before it fell off. Shinsou sighed and looked over to Nejire, smiling and thanking her as they conversed. They spoke over Eris head, until they arrived inside the tent, hearing a loud, friendly voice speak to a monotone, almost unaware one.

"And now, I will defeat you, monster! I will not have you destroy this village!"

"Oh Gods, oh no, what ever will I do? This hero is, far too strong for me. Uh...En garde."

The three looked up to see 'Uncle Mirio', a blonde headed teen in a white, decorative knights costume and red cape, pretending to fight off Tamaki, a dark blue haired boy puppeteering a large bird claw from his arm sleeve. They fought, the blonde putting way more exaggerated effort into the performance as Tamaki fell to his knees, slowly being pulled off stage.

"Ah, curses. I was defeated. Damn you, hero of Enjeer, I'll come again to beat you next time, probably around sunset tomorrow. So please, come to the show tomorrow night-"

The crowd laughed as he was pulled out of sight, Mirio bowing to the audience as he heard the soft cries of the little white haired girl. As others were moving in and out of their seats, Mirio beckoned for Shinsou and Nejire, calling them backstage as the girl smiled and took Shinsous hand, pulling him through the crowd. As soon as they got behind the large curtain, Mirio jumped out from behind them and stole Eri from Nejire, throwing her in the air as she giggled.

"My, what a little princess you are growing up to be! How is my favorite Eri?"

"I'm good! Great job defeating the bad guy Uncle Mirio! You did amazing!"

She giggled and shouted as Mirio threw her higher, her hood coming off as Shinsou groaned quietly, reaching up to try and point it out. The dark haired boy from the stage came over and nudged Shinsou, shaking his head.

"Everyone who works here knows, it's nothing to be worried about. How's Sensei?"

"He's good, he's the reason we were able to come out here tonight."

"Well then we'll have to thank him! Will you help me write a thank you note to your father, Eri?"

"Sure! I wanna decorate the front!"

Mirio carried the girl further into the tent and over to a small desk, letting her play with the colorful charcoals they had. Shinsou followed behind, causally talking to Tamaki and Nejire about their parlor tricks before looking over at the art sets Mirio had. He felt a quiet sigh escape his lips as he watched Eri get overly excited about being able to use different colors, complaining to Mirio about how hard it was to draw her older brother without the color purple.

"How is she doing, by the way?"

Nejires voice was quieter, and a little more serious as she whispered to Shinsou, making the boy rub the back of his neck with an even louder sigh.

"It's getting bigger, and we don't know what it can do. With everything that happened, Sensei was suggesting she might just be sensitive to magic. If she lived somewhere where magic was allowed, she could probably be a powerful witch."

"You know that sweet kid Izuku? He has a friend, Uraraka Ochako, and she's a witch. I wonder if maybe she could teach Eri something someday."

"Well for right now, they probably just want her to be a normal child."

Shinsou nodded and agreed with Tamaki, who blushed and turned around in embarrassment as Nejire complimented his performance. Shinsou watched Eri and Mirio play together, coloring as she smiled widely up at him. Aizawas words about being happy echoed in his ears and he smiled too, feeling more content than he had in a long time.

...

"Oh, and guess what! Brother found a girl that he loves! Her name is (F/N), and he doesn't stop talking about her."

"...I thought I said not to bring that up?!"
