Chapter 40

...

"Katsuki?"

You sighed and sat down on the forest floor, poking at the barely lit fire pit. The blonde hadn't come back yet, and you groaned, bored and hungry.

"Kat. Su. Ki. Come onn."

"I'm right here. Shut up."

You looked over and smiled, seeing the prince had appeared right next to you, preparing a rabbit he had caught. You sighed happily and stretched your arms, apologizing for whining.

"I'm just glad that I can talk to you! I want to talk as much as we can."

"Say something of value and we can talk."

You scoffed as Bakugou laughed, handing you a skewered stick with different parts of the rabbit on it. You held the stick over the fire, watching the meat burn and cook slowly.

"I'm really worried about you and Kirishima, Katsuki."

"I know you are, but it was stupid of you to push us away. We could've all gotten out of that together."

You shook your head, glaring at the fire before glaring over at Bakugou, who just stared angrily back. You knew that was something he would say, even if you disagreed with it.

"Uraraka said the most she could teleport was three people. What if something had gone wrong and Kirishima got left behind? He could've died!"

"You could be dead right now!"

You looked away and closed your eyes, frowning as you heard the pain in his voice.

"I can't...I can't lose you (F/N). Not now, not after everything."

"You won't lose me, I know I'm...alive, at least."

Bakugou sighed and pulled the stick away from the fire, waving it in the air boredly as the meat continued to smoke.

"How can you be sure?"

You pulled your own stick from the fire, humming quietly. You put the food to your lips, blowing on it to make sure it wasn't too hot, before taking a bite. Even though it was just rabbit, whatever spices and salts Bakugou had made it taste better a hundred times over.

"Because I'm hungry."

"Tch, and what does that have to do with anything."

"It means I'm alive."

You smiled as Bakugou ruffled your hair, rolling his eyes as you laughed. The blonde sat with you while you ate, offering you his food when you had finished off the pieces he gave you before.

"Not hungry?"

"I am, but you're more hungry."

You hesitated, taking the stick from the Prince before sighing, tapping it boredly in the air as you hugged your knees.

"I...forgot you're just a part of my dream."

"Just because I'm not real, doesn't mean I can't be useful."

Bakugou smirked and leaned closer, tilting his head as he kissed your ear. You blushed and swatted at him, pushing him away as you tossed the remains of the rabbit meat into the fire, getting to your feet.

"Y-Yeah well, say something useful, and I'll listen."

You walked away from the fire pit as Bakugou scoffed loudly, appearing at your side as you walked with him through the forest. It was one you had never been to before, but it felt comforting, being around foliage and flora and not the harsh desert.

"How is Kirishima?"

"I'd say he's being taken care of by Uraraka and Deku, maybe they met up with Kaminari and his group too?"

"I hope so..."

Bakugou laughed as he teased you for asking him something you knew he couldn't answer, and you brushed him off, saying it was just for reassurance. You continued to walk until you reached the beach, scanning over the Mirag Bay. It was gorgeous; the rays of the sun dancing off the waves as more trees surrounded the curved beach. You stared at the horizon between the sun and the bay, your voice quiet and carrying a hint of fear.

"I love you, Katsuki."

"I know you do, and I love you too, Princess."

Bakugou smiled and looked down at you, wincing when he saw tears streaming down your face. He quickly grabbed onto your shoulders and moved into your field of vision, wiping away your tears roughly as you chuckled.

"Even as a figment of my imagination, you still don't know how to be gentle."

"Probably because you like that about me."

You shook your head as he continued to dry your eyes, making you quickly close one as his fingers brushed over it. He sighed and hugged you, taking away your ability to breathe as you hit at the prince.

"You need to wake up soon, (F/N), you need to stay alive, okay?"

"I will."

"Good, because as soon as I find you, I'm killing you for doing something so stupid."

"I know."

"And I won't go easy on you, doesn't matter how cute you are."

"I know."

You smiled and laughed, feeling Bakugous hold on you tighten. The sky began to fade to black, along with the forests, the bay, the sand; it all faded into nothing as you stood there with Bakugou. It was nice having a little control over your dream, but at the same time, it hurt, knowing none of it was real. Was it worth it if you got to talk to him though? You smiled wider and leaned back as best you could, pulling Bakugou into a kiss before your eyes shot open, gasping for breath.

You were freezing, you were wet, you were aching-

But you were alive.

You groaned and felt something crushing your ribcage, lifting your head to see a massive piece of driftwood laying on top of you. Was that why Bakugous hug was so painful? Exhaling, you took a deep breath and grit your teeth, trying to push the driftwood off of you as it cracked and splintered. You wouldn't be able to fully lift it, but you were able to hold it up long enough to climb out from underneath, gasping and rolling onto the wet sand.

"Gods...stupid driftwood."

You stayed flat on the ground as your eyes traveled around the area, and you realized it looked exactly like your dream; a long, outstretched beach surrounded by forests. Just be used to it by now, your dreams were always strange. After another minute of deciding whether or not you should just lay there or get up, you went with the latter, staggering to your feet. You patted yourself down, making sure nothing was broken, and surprisingly, you were okay. Bruises, scrapes, burns, and a really, really shattered heart? Yeah, but nothing broken! That's good...right?

"Okay...survival time."

You walked along the shore of the beach, eventually finding both yours and Bakugous bags. Immediately you threw everything out into the sand, sifting through to assess what you had. There were a lot of clothes, and you chuckled, imagining Kirishima not being able to decide which ones and in the end, packing all of it. A few basic cooking things from Bakugou, including a small jar of spices. Finding your new journal, damp and ruined from the water, made a few tears form in your eyes, and you quickly wiped them away, shaking your head.

"M-Maybe Midoriya can make...another one."

The map had surprisingly been saved; some water damage staining parts of the corners, but it was so folded up that most of it was legible. You laid it out, studying it before finding your location, staring and looking for the nearest civilization, besides Mirag. The word coming to mind made a chill run up your body, making you look around as your eyes narrowed. You...were still in Mirag, weren't you? Your eyes trailed down from the Mirag Bay to the capital, and then from the capital to Egaby.

"It's so far..."

More tears welled in your eyes as you wiped them away, a few falling down onto the map. You couldn't get upset now, you needed to focus on staying alive. Your emotions, however, were already beginning to get to you. You choked back a sob and tried to clear your tears faster, wanting to ignore all the despairing thoughts running through your mind. You were so far away from home. Who knows where Bakugou and the others are. You don't even know where the closest town is. You gritted your teeth, angry with yourself as you continued to cry, looking up into the forest to try and get your mind back on track.

Stop crying. You need to focus. You stood up and brushed the sand off of you again, glancing up at the sky and squinting at the sun. You studied its position, counting how many hours you'd have before sunset, and you sighed.

"It's not much, but I can manage that."

You rolled up your sleeves as best you could and got to work, keeping the clothes laid out in the sand to dry them and packing the rest back into the bags. The little stone Uraraka had given you was no where to be found, and you figured it was lost to the waters before you had passed out. Cracking your neck, you stretched your arms and moved off into the forest, gathering anything you could possibly need from sticks and leaves to the tall grasses you could spin into rope.

Humming any songs you remembered to keep your mind positive, you worked quickly and in focus, making a fire pit, a small base for your things, and even a makeshift hunting trap. Bakugou always kept his weapons on him, but luckily he had packed a second hunting dagger, most likely for you, in his things. You set your trap not very far into the forest before climbing into a nearby tree, resting and calming yourself further while you waited for something to get caught.

It would've been so much easier to just forage the fruits and berries decorating the trees and bushes nearby, but you had no idea what they were, what if they were poisonous? You sighed and continued to hum, resting your head against the bark as you looked up at the leaves as they danced in the wind. You thought about Bakugou and Kirishima, wondering where they were or how they were doing. How far did Urarakas magic work? Would they be close by? You exhaled slowly, tapping your fingers against your knees as another wave of tears began to wash over you. You sat up and immediately rubbed them away, growling at yourself before seeing a rabbit fall for your trap.

"Keep it together (F/N)."

You swung from the tree branch and watched the rabbit squirm, crying in place as you put it out of its misery.

"I'm sorry, but I need to eat."

You thought about the deer Bakugou had caught around the time you had first met, and you smiled to yourself, sitting on your knees as you began to skin the rabbit. You grew up a hunter, but you still always had a sympathy for the animals you hunted, did he feel the same way? Your hands slowed to a stop, staring off into nothing as these negative and depressing thoughts continued to fill your head. At the end of the day, you really knew nothing about Bakugou Katsuki.

What were his favorite foods? What did he like to do for fun? Did he have a good childhood? You shook your head and sighed loudly, standing up and heading back towards the beach. No. You knew things about him, you knew plenty.

"I know that he doesn't like other people."

You set up the fire pit and sparked a flame, blowing on the embers until it built into a nicely sized fire.

"I know that he secretly gets along with Kirishima really well."

You smiled to yourself and prepared the rabbit, cutting it apart and skewering the meat onto a stick. You opened the small jar of spices and dipped your finger into it, tasting the flavor and gagging at how hot it was.

"I know that he loves spicy food."

Holding the rabbit meat over the fire, you pouted your lips, watching it begin to darken as it cooked. Your eyes narrowed as you looked over at the sunset that began to disappear behind the mountains you had escaped from. The sky grew darker as your eyes followed the orange rays of sun that quickly left your vision.

"I...know that he loves me."

...

"Ka. Su. K-"

"If you say it like that again, I'll kill you."

Bakugou fell down onto his butt next to you, pulling you closer and forcing you to lean your head on his shoulder. He wrapped his cape around the both of you, staring down at you as you smiled at the warmth.

"How long has it been?"

"Not even twenty four hours."

"It feels like an eternity."

"You'll make it. You've got Kirishima. Uraraka and Deku, too, remember?"

Bakugou huffed and pouted, making you smile and nestle your cheek against his shoulder. He reached over and grabbed your hand, pulling it close to his face as he kissed your knuckles, breathing peacefully. You chuckled and whispered for him to stop, laughing louder when he growled and continued, kissing your wrist and pulling you close to kiss your cheek. He smiled against your skin, biting you gently and forcing you into a hug.

"I want you."

"I know you do. When we find each other, I'll let you give me a long hug."

"Hah, that's it?"

You laughed harder as his hair tickled your cheek, kissing your neck as he scowled against your skin.

"I want more."

"What would you want?"

"...I don't know. Why are you asking me things you know I can't answer?"

You looked up at the moon and stared at the white light it gave off, smiling with half lidded eyes as Bakugou continued to hum and purr against your neck. You listened to him whine quietly, mumbling under his breath that he was still mad and still planned on killing you the second he knew you were safe, and you sighed, turning back to look at the prince. His lips were pouted, his eyes glazed with tears that he refused to let fall and his expression tired. Even in your dreams, he looked so stressed. You hugged Bakugou and pushed him back into the sand, the cape still wrapped around the two of you as you kissed him.

"I'll find you, okay? Tomorrow. I'll find you, I promise."

"You better."

"I love you, Katsuki."

You waited for the response, but never got one, instead, your eyes flew open and immediately squinted at the new morning sun.

"Damn it..."

You sat up and groaned, realizing you had just been hugging your bag as a makeshift pillow. You narrowed your eyes and huffed, kicking at the bag childishly.

"You're not Katsuki...okay. Get up."

You staggered to your feet and stretched, slowly making your way around the small half assed camp you had made, shaking down the sand covered clothes and repacking them into the two bags. You packed up the cooking items, wrapping the leftover cooked rabbit meat in a small cloth of tanned hide, packing it away as well. Looking around the beach, you sighed and unfolded the once damp, now completely dry map, glaring at the smudged ink. You stared down at the map before glancing at the forest, looking back down. The forest was obviously South, and there wasn't anything you wanted North of the Bay, so you nodded, looking up at the sun.

"They'd have to be South-"

Suddenly, a light flickered in the corner of your eye, and you turned towards it, squinting. What is that? You peered closer, noticing a small light, bouncing in the air and floating like a fairy. Was it a fairy? Or were you just seeing things? You stepped forward and moved closer, your breath hitching as it flew away, further into the woods. It stopped again, bouncing in place as if waiting for you, and you sighed, folding the map and stuffing it into your bag. You put both on your back, shaking your head before following the light.

"Or just let yourself get distracted by weirder things..."

You began to jog, having to run after the light as it constantly left your field of vision. Chasing after it, you jumped over a fallen tree and stumbled, scrambling to the right as the light took a sharp turn. It felt like forever before the light finally sprung into a small pool, and you looked with wide eyes, staring at the spring before you. It was a small spring, with red and blue flowers adorning the area, a short waterfall being created from the ledge above. It looked like there was a cave underneath, only big enough for a small child or an animal. Your eyes widened even more, watching the light disappear into the pool as its water began to glow.

"It's like the one near Egaby..."

You shuffled closer and crouched near the water, putting your hands in it cautiously. The water looked similar to the water in the sea cave from your dream, lighting up even more as your hands grazed it's surface. Suddenly, the light went out, and you pouted, sitting down on your butt as you continued to play with the water.

"All of this magic stuff is so confusing-"

"It's like that at first!"

You shouted and whipped your head to the side, seeing a man in a large grey cloak, the hood baggy and wrapped around him like a scarf. He wore a mask, hiding half of his face as his eyes were darkened out, hidden in shadows. How were the shadows so dark? He waved to you as you scooted back, putting his hands up as a chuckle came from him.

"S-Sorry to scare you, child. I didn't mean to appear out of no where, but it's become a habit-"

He laughed again, crouching down to your eye level and held out his hand, offering for you to take it. You hesitated, taking the strangers hand and shaking it as he helped you to your feet, brushing himself off as he spoke again.

"It's been a while since I've seen someone that wasn't...familiar. It's nice to meet you."

"Likewise."

The man smiled under his mask but you only stared back, unsure if you could trust him right away. You had been so trusting of strangers in the past, and look where that got you-

"Are you, from Mirag?"

You winced and looked away, hugging yourself as you realized you were still in your dirtied, slightly burned clothes. The man apologized and moved over to a fallen tree, sitting down with a groan as he cracked his back.

"My apologies, again. Cultures change over time but Mirag were always steadfast, unchanging."

"I'm not surprised."

You kicked at the ground, pouting before eventually moving closer and sitting down on the same fallen tree. You sighed and held your head up with one hand, blowing a piece of your hair out of your face as the stranger pulled his hood down, revealing a tangled mess of golden blonde hair.

"So, what seems to be troubling you, Mirag child?"

"I...I'm just lost, is all."

"It's easy to get lost in this world, the places you can visit can be so captivating-"

"Physically lost, yes, but also mentally, sir."

You pouted harder and groaned, mumbling under your breath as you continued to vent. You shouldn't be so open with him, but this man gave off a calming aura that made you want to discuss the issues at hand.

"I got separated from my...my group. I don't know where they are, or how far, and honestly I don't really know where I am, or what I'm doing, and I'm so far from home."

"I'm sure you're scared. It's hard, traveling alone in this world. I don't know anyone who would do it of their own volition."

You sighed again and looked over at the man, seeing him staring off into nothing. You realized his eyes were a bright sky blue, but they were still hidden within the shadows of his face; it was strange, but that wasn't something to question now.

"Who are you?"

"My name is Toshinori. I'm just a traveler-"

You stared at him unconvinced, having heard that line before, and he sighed, ruffling his own hair.

"I guess you could say I'm someone who offers advice to travelers such as yourself, from time to time."

"Very convenient."

"Well, you called, didn't you?"

You tilted your head and watched as Toshinori smiled, pointing to the small pond.

"I'm sure you're aware of the magic surrounding these springs."

"I'm...actually not. All I know is that they all look the same, and appear everywhere."

The man smiled and leaned back, holding himself up with his arms as they stuck out from his cloak and giving you a better view of his body. He was thin, with lanky arms and even longer legs that sat bent in front of him. Was he sick? He sounds fine, but his body looks so...frail.

"These springs are actually connected to the Gods of old. It's said that those who possess magic blood can use them to call any spirits they need for advice or guidance."

You chuckled and shook your head, looking at the water from a distance as it began to shine with a light, white glow.

"That must be why no God or Goddess showed up, I'm not magic..."

Your voice trailed off and you looked back at the stranger. What did he say he was? Someone to offer advice? You stood up and took a few steps back, narrowing your eyes as Toshinori stood up as well.

"I'm not...I can't do magic."

"And I'm not a God. We can say these things, if it will be easier for you."

You groaned and fell to your knees, looking down at your hands as Toshinori crouched down near you, putting his hand on your back. You sighed loudly as your hands balled into fists, your voice quiet in defeat.

"No...it's better to just accept things. So, what are you?"

"I am the God of the People, the, One For All, you could say-"

He stood up and posed, waiting for a response, but never got one. You stared back at Toshinori, shrugging when he looked back at you, sighing quietly.

"I am All Might, the savior of Okamoto, the one who fights for everyone?"

"Ohh..."

You crossed your legs and hummed, peering up at the man who claimed he was a God before speaking unapologetically.

"You don't look like a God."

Toshinori laughed loudly as his shoulders fell, shaking his head as he agreed with you.

"Y-You're right, young one. I don't look the part, but I wouldn't lie. I really am, see?"

He extended his hand to you again, waiting for you to take it, and your eyes widened. His skin was...almost transparent. You hesitantly took his hand, feeling him pull you to your feet, a chill running through your body. It was like touching a ghost. You stared at his hand as you continued to hold it, chuckling again.

"Why don't you look like a God? I imagined a fierce warrior."

"I appear different to everyone. To some, I'm a symbol, to others, I'm a strong hero, and to you, I guess I'm just an old man."

You both laughed this time, making you feel a lot better than before. Should this be bothering you? A God, All Might, of all Gods? You pulled your hand away from Toshinori and crossed your arms, wincing as he spoke, his voice echoing in your ears.

"You're not really from Mirag, are you?"

"...I'm from Egaby."

"Ah, (F/N), right?"

You glared back up at Toshinori and he quickly smiled under his mask, waving his hands as if pleading for you to let him explain.

"I heard it in the winds, that there was an Egabian traveling the country...I just assumed-"

"Ah, I guess I'm infamous then."

You shrugged and turned your body, hugging yourself again and looking off towards the spring.

"Is there a problem with that, All Might?"

"Not at all, it's nice to see an Egabian out from their exile, exploring their country."

You sighed and smiled weakly, wondering if you should take that as a compliment or an insult.

"So...what advice do you have for me?"

Toshinori perked up and hummed, unsure of what you meant. You moved towards the pool and dipped your hands back into the water, feeling the cool liquid encase your hands. It was cool, but felt warm at the same time, like it held different properties than normal water.

"You said you offer advice and guidance. What do you think I should do?"

Toshinori moved closer, pulling his hood back up over his hair and hiding his face. His footsteps were light, almost inaudible, but his voice stayed clear in the air.

"If you're looking for your group, I would suggest heading West, there's a town less than a day away from here. And I would suggest you not lose sight of what you're after."

You pouted your lips in thought, looking West and further into the woods. A town, would it be Okamoto? Or Mirag? You turned your head to ask the God, and his hand was extended towards you, holding the small cracked stone from Uraraka in his palm. You immediately grabbed it and examined the scratch on its surface, stumbling over your words to try and ask how he had found it, but when you looked back up, he had vanished, a gentle light where he had once been. You sighed and stood up, readjusting the bags on your shoulders before moving around the spring. Toshinoris drifting voice echoed one last time, making you whip your head around and look for the source, but there wasn't one.

"And check out the mountain forest North of the town, you might find something of value there."

"Such detailed advice...great. Thank you, God of the people..."

You huffed and swung your arms boredly, reluctantly following the Gods advice. A town, West? What was West? You pulled your map back out and squinted, seeing a faded smudge of a towns name that you couldn't quite make out. It looked small, but like Toshinori had said, it didn't look far. You dragged your finger from the bay to the small dot marking the spring, to your next destination.

"I got this."

The next few hours had been dragging, but not tasking. The forest was actually quite beautiful, and you took in the scenery as you trekked through. It really did look similar to the ones near Egaby, reminding you of your first day with Bakugou. Did he ever see these forests? You hummed and smiled to yourself, imagining what the prince would say if he saw you acting so calm, so reminiscent, rather than panicking without him. You pulled a small piece of rabbit meat from your bag, picking it apart and fumbling the small cracked stone in your hand, whispering to it to see if it would work, or make any sort of sound. A clearing off in the distance took your attention way, putting the stone back in your bag. The edge of the forest?

You jogged into the open, sighing as the sun beat down on your skin. Finally. You squinted and shielded your eyes from the brightness, looking for any sign of a town.

"Where...where are you...aha!"

Your eyes widened and you smiled as the smallest hint of smoking chimneys and the silhouette of a small village came into view. It was far, but you didn't care, it was close enough. You skidded down the slightly steep grass hill, almost stumbling at the end before beginning the journey to the light at the end of the tunnel. What's it called? Will the people be friendly? Will they recognize your clothes? You hesitated and looked down at your outfit, sighing and shaking your head.

"I should...change."

You looked around, thanking the Gods for once that you were alone and in the middle of no where. Sifting through the clothes Kirishima had packed, you found something that you hoped was meant to go together, and you quickly changed and tossed the ruined outfit away. The new set was less revealing than what you had worn previously, and a little more comfortable than before. It was a loose and baggy halter top, stopping right in the middle of your torso. A long, same colored skirt raised up to match the top, just barely showing any skin. Hidden beaded designs and lace decorated the skirt, and you checked yourself out before throwing the bags back over your shoulders.

"Okay. That's better."

The anklets you still had on jingled together as you started your journey once again, feeling much more comfortable. You should've wanted shoes, but luckily the ground was such soft grass, the field you were in more like a sea of bright green, the blades of grass still damp with morning dew.  You glanced up at the sky, seeing the sun already high above you. How long were you in the forest? A cry from off in the distance brought you back to reality, making you look off towards the mountain north of the village. It wasn't a large mountain, but it was covered in another deep forest, making whatever was crying out hidden from view.

Didn't Toshinori say you should go there? Why? You sighed and continued walking, thinking about the things you could possibly ask the God if you ever saw him in the future. Would you? Seeing the village finally close enough to make out the details, you squinted at the sign that sat outside of the perimeter, humming in thought.

"Shiketsu...interesting."
