Chapter 17.

Two halls.

Both equally unpleasant.

What also unnerved you was the absence of the ceiling, only blackness stretched to who knows where. As it was normal for mirror rooms or in this case - halls. Mirrors lined up on the walls, they were the same size, no smaller or bigger than the other.

"Hmm, which one to pick.... they look the same" you murmur.

Maybe you could hear some sounds coming from the halls? Bending over more to the right hall you listen intently - nothing, the same with the left one. Whichever you picked you think the possibilities of running into something deadly are even.

Taking a step to the right hall you stop and see if anything happens. Seeing nothing happening you venture forward and avoid looking at the mirrors. Who knows what you might see, you doubt it would be your normal reflection and one of the things that horror movies taught you was that mirrors tended to show something horrifying or just plain creepy. Nope, you're not having that.

Focusing your gaze only in front of you seemed to work. No creepy sounds, no movement other than yours. Of course you can't let your guard down now, you have to reach the end.

"Just don't look at the mirrors..." you whisper to yourself.

You climb down some stairs along the way and continue straight but you stop after a few steps. There was something in the distance. You squint your eyes to see it better but to no avail. Turning back now is suicide so you take cautious steps towards the unknown and stop yet again.

Out of one of the right side mirrors, swaying in the air was an arm. It's palm was facing you, fingers stretched toward the left side. You really wished to wake up now, how the hell were you gonna pass that arm if it blocked your way?

You could always kick it but you didn't know if that was very wise: it could trigger something, more arms could come out, it could also grab your leg and rip it off,or it could just ignore you but that might also be false.

Approaching it you make as little noise as possible. From the distance the arm looked like a cheap decoration but when you approached it, it had all the detailed lines of the skin, wrinkles, depth. You kept a safe distance from it because you didn't want to be grabbed.

It twitched a bit, clearly reacting to your presence as it slowly curled its fingers. Not knowing what to do you just stand there and watch as it moves. In a split second you look towards the hall and gaze back.

The arm was gone.

What's more.

You looked at the mirror.

.....

..

"Shit!"

You start running through the hall as fast as you can. Looking back was stupid but you peeked just a little behind you and saw a wave of arms coming out of the mirrors at different places. They were no doubt coming after you, and in seconds they might have you.

"What if I smash the mirrors???!" you shout in your head while running.

Quick steps echo across the hall. You search your pockets for anything to use on the mirrors but find nothing. If you were to stop here and kick the mirrors it would be game over, the hands would grab you in an instant.

Something soft brushes against your cheek and you look to the side only to scream.

Fingers were inches away from your face, they scraped the air reaching for you.

Out of fright you stumble and back away to the opposite wall. Expecting your back to hit a mirror you gasp as you fall in.

Scrambling to your feet you look at the mirror with a horrified face. Hands were all over the mirror, they punched the glass trying to get in but it proved useless, the glass acted as a shield and from the looks of it, you were behind it in some room. Taking deep breaths you calm yourself as much as possible.

Trying to ignore the persistent knockings, scraping and banging of the glass you look around. How long before that glass breaks? You won't be sticking around to find out as you take in the room's mood.

Typical darkness greeted you like an old friend. The room felt very big for some reason, taking steps forward and searching the air for something to grab onto, you hope not to fall over. In some places you could see tiny dots of light floating in the air, were they fireflies you didn't know, best not to go near them for the moment. At least they gave you some comfort, it's no wonder most people are afraid being in complete darkness - you never know what's in it.

*Step step step"

The echo of your shoes collided with silence. You already walked about 5 minutes and what you understood, was that you were walking on tiles. Reaching to the ground you knocked against it and brushed your hand against the surface, definitely ceramic tiles. What else brought your attention was a light breeze blowing in your direction.

"If this breeze is not misleading then there must be an opening from where it's coming."

After a few more minutes, you see a slight ray of light. Walking towards it you see a big window, about 4 metres high. It was a simple window yet it had some elegance to it, moonlight dimly shined through and as you approached it you looked at what was beyond.

"....."

"Wow..."

You saw, what most people call it - a bottomless abyss. It stretched far and you didn't see any hint of land in the horizon. It was breathtaking and a bit scary, moonlight danced on its non-existent surface. All thoughts, worries vanished and sheer amazement was only present now in your mind as you sat down on the tiles in front of the window and crossed your legs.

Hesitating at first but finally deciding you reach out towards the glass and lightly tap it with your fingers.

*drip*

You retract your arm and gaze at the glass with wide eyes. The moment you touched it a sound as if a drop of water echoed from it, the glass didn't wave nor act like water, just the sound was present and when you did the same thing again, it didn't stop.

*Drip, Drop, drip, drop" the window resounded as you poked it.

The place emitted a sense of calmness now, even with nothing but darkness behind your back you felt peaceful, like you could be here all day...

*Step. step. step.*

You slightly shift and look behind you to see something purple making its way towards you. When it comes closer, taking little steps, a small child approaches. A purple aura trails behind her as she sits beside you without emitting a sound. She lifts up her head and shows a small smile, her eyes shine brightly.

Taken aback you stare at her.

You stare at your younger self.

The child chuckles at your expression, then looks through the window. Following her gaze you two stare in silence at the abyss. A dream such as this never occurred before, yes you dreamt of your childhood but you haven't seen yourself as a child this close and this real. At first, questions invaded your mind as to why she was here, what will she say and what will your response be?

Shaking your head you take a big breath and let it out. You look at her again and find her standing now, hands behind her back. You get up and she extends her hand for you to take.  Confused you take it and she slowly leads you away from the window, into the darkness.

You hear kids shouting and laughing but you don't see them. They were running around judging by their quick pace. Looking at your younger self you saw her looking to the sides from which the voices of the kids echoed. She looked a bit annoyed and somewhat sad. But her pace began to quicken and a smile once again appeared on her face as you neared a fence and an archway.

Swiftly you let go of her hand and stop but she continues to move forward even without you. Her hair sways excitingly in the air as she passes through the archway and vanishes, bits of purple which were left behind slowly fade away because of her absence.

Something told you not to go near and you didn't need convincing because that fence and archway were from your kindergarten. You remember always lurking near it when waiting for your mom to pick you up. Sometimes you contemplated on escaping when some girls were being mean to you but you didn't know the way back home and just wished strongly for someone to get you out of there.

You sigh remembering those days, socialising wasn't really your fort, you just didn't understand humans sometimes and children especially.  Turning around you start to distance yourself from the gate until you hear a slight whisper:

"Y/N"

Biting your lip slightly you hesitate to turn around.  Someone called you out and you were confused by the soft way that they did it. It was if they we're calling for an old friend.

"...."

Closing your eyes you take a deep breath and pace towards the fence, eyes cast down to the ground. When you finally see the lower part of the fence, you slowly lift your head and face the being's eyes.

Softness and mischief shined in them as they looked at you. Truth be told, it was a familiar feeling.... staring at those eyes. It's as if you've known them your whole life. But how could that be if you have no memory of meeting the demon?

Extending your arm you place your palm on his cheek. Judging by the softness of flesh he was definitely real and not some illusion.  Tynan's expression changes to a more serious one as you lower your arm. He looks to the side at the archway and beckons you to go through.

Shaking your head you back away. For some reason crossing that gate was not a good idea. A thought strikes you of him reminding you not to get caught and just from the previous events you finally consider him to be dangerous to you thus you turn around and make a run for it.

The laughter and shouting of the kids from before now echoed around you more intensely, some even screamed as you aimlessly ran to who knows where. You felt multiple eyes staring at you like you were dinner so you picked up the pace and ran with everything you've got.

.........

You get up quickly, clutching the blanket firmly. Your whole body is wet from sweat and you're breathing heavily. With a slight chirp your little companion reminds you of his presence and you greatly appreciate it as you take him in your hand and softly pet him.
