21 ~ Battle

Leo's POV

A mass of students rushed to untie the teachers, and Jason followed to help.

Once the teachers were set free, they began shooting spells, jinxes, and hexes at the Death Eaters and charms and spells at things around the monsters.

Us demigods blocked the doorway as best as we could, while most of the students cowered and ran around in circles screaming their heads off. Students under fourth year had been sent home due to this battle, but I saw a few third years running around shooting hexes.

Lots of harpies flew over our heads, Thalia, Frank, Chiron, and Will shot them down, and Jason slashed them down with his golden sword while flying in the air. A few people must have mistaken him for Voldemort, and started screaming and shooting spells at him.

Chiron calmly nocked an arrow, "Sorry I'm late, a few Cyclops cornered me in my classroom."

Suddenly a Cyclops exploded in my face. Cecil from the Hermes cabin stood in front of me, grinning with mischief. "Hello! Reinforcements have arrived!"

"Alright!" I shouted, high-fiving him. I spotted a few other demigods in the Hall. Two were Mark and Sherman from the Ares Cabin.

"Yeah," Mark said, "we're here, some others too, but there's a ton of monsters outside, like TONS. Three hundred or something. We're having a tough time holding them off. Come on, they're coming out of the forest."

Nico, Percy, Annabeth, the Stolls, Frank, Hazel, Jason, Piper, Clarisse, and I went with them.

We'd just made it to the hallway, "Hey! I'm coming too!"

Drew hopped over. Claire followed her kinda nervously.

"You might get killed," I told her seriously.

She gave me her getting-killed-is-for-wimps look.

"I'm not going to get killed," she rolled her eyes. "Annabeth and Piper broke their ankles before, they still kept going, and mine's only sprained."

"Yeah, but they didn't have a choice. You do." I threw a fireball at some telkhine who was paddling beside us whining something about us being stupid.

"I'm coming, and I'm fine," Drew snapped. She blasted an empousa with an Explosion Spell, driving it away.

Claire shrugged at me helplessly, "I'm just coming with her."

"You'll both get hurt," I told Drew as we weaved through some monsters.

"I know," Drew snarled, "but in case you weren't aware, that's what happens when you fight in a war. This is my choice, and you have no say."

I decided it was hopeless anyway. "Just don't do anything stupid."

"I won't," she promised.

She suddenly tripped a crack in the marble. She steadied herself in time, and she rubbed her ankle, cursing.

"I'll carry you," Nico offered.

"NO!!!" she yelled so loud everyone jumped.

She breathed out, "Sorry. I'm just frustrated with myself. You have your own job to do, so don't bother with me."

Nico backed off, "Alright, alright."

Annabeth motioned for them to quiet down. She pointed towards the woods, "There."

We had reached the outside of Hogwarts. Monsters were flooding from the Forbidden Forest. The Hunters of Artemis and some campers from the two camps were holding them off. Every so often, a monster would get around them and would dash to Hogwarts, where we killed them.

A few wizards had followed us here, including the Golden Trio, Ginny, and the Weasley Twins.

"Where's Voldemort?" Harry asked us.

"Ran off," Drew replied. "Probably waiting for us to get weaker, and that's when he'll appear."

"Makes sense," Harry said.

It was actually pretty easy, the monsters were down to about two hundred now, if you count the forty or so that had already gotten into Hogwarts.

I bonked my hammer on an empousa's head and threw random bombs at the other monsters. They spewed water, popcorn, powder, fart, and other cool stuff.

I spotted three people running along the monsters, yelling stuff at the monsters.

It was Malfoy, Nott, and Goyle. Then more Death Eaters appeared, about 10.

I threw a flash bang grenade, and two of them fell to the floor clutching their heads.

They ran around, shooting Killing Curses at all the wizards.

After we defeated about fifty more monsters Drew suddenly screamed. Well, she screams at people a lot, but this wasn't words, it was a high pitched and terrified scream I've never imagined coming out of her mouth before.

She ran over to a figure with dark brown hair on the floor. I followed her, bracing for the worst.

It was Claire.

Drew knelt down beside her, tears silently dropping to the ground. She shook her friend, but I knew it was futile. And I knew that she knew it too.

She put her sword and her wand down beside her and just sat there staring at Claire. I have never seen her drop a weapon on purpose, but she seemed beyong caring.

I've never seen her cry before, she probably cried when Eliza died, but she most likely did it somewhere no one would see her.

I knelt down beside her, looking around us every so often for incoming monsters.

There were none.

"I'm really sorry," I told her, not knowing what else I could say.

"Shut up," she muttered, "just shut up. You can leave. You don't need to feel obligated to stay with me."

"I'm not leaving you, okay?"

She didn't even look embarrassed as she sobbed into Claire's stomach, saying things I couldn't hear.

I felt myself tear up as well.

And then faster than I could move, Drew had picked up her sword and wand again. After wiping her face a few times, she said, "I'm fine." Her voice cracked too much in those two words alone. She rubbed her nose on her sleeve, glaring at me. She'd put herself together so fast, it almost scared me.

She got up shakily, muttering, "It had to be both of them." She started toward the army of monsters, walking on her bad leg like it had never been sprained.

She said that over and over, and she killed every single monster that came by without my help.

Then she said, "It's my fault..." And new tears starting going down her face again.

She quickly wiped them and shut her eyes, "Stop staring at me."

"Okay," I looked away. I have never heard her say it's her fault. I've never even heard her say anything like it. Whenever someone says it's her fault for something, she'd argue with them until they gave up.

"It's not your fault, you know," I told her. I wasn't very good at reassuring people, but I had to try  my best.

"I know," she said, but she didn't believe it at all.

"You didn't tell her to come, did you?"

"No."

"Then it's not your fault."

"I could have told her not to come."

"No, I could have told you not to come, and then forced you not to come. Then she wouldn't have wanted to come with you. It's my fault."

"Everyone would say that," she muttered, "everyone always manages to find a way to say that it's their fault when it's not. It's mine, so give it up."

I didn't know how to convince her. She was so stubborn.

Someone gave a mock gasp five feet away from us.

I spun around and saw Goyle gaping with disbelief, "Is the mighty Drew Getaway crying? She misses her friend doesn't she!"

Drew slowly raised her head to look at him. Her eyes were molten lava, and the cruel curl of her lip revealed something evil and malicious. "Shut up, or I'll incinerate you."

Goyle backed up in terror, and kept backing away until he was a good twenty feet away. Then he crashed into Malfoy. Draco right himself and was about to yell at him, but Goyle pointed at Drew and Malfoy started grinning like Drew was a Christmas present come early.

He strutted over to Drew. Before he could even say anything, Drew yelled, "Don't you dare say one word about my friends."

Malfoy kept coming, "I think you'd like to know that I was the one who sent that Killing Curse."

He beamed at her as Drew's face twisted into an animal snarl that would beat Thalia's.

She roared, then screamed, "CRUCIO!"

Malfoy must have been expecting this, because he ducked just in time and it hit a telkhine, nothing happened to it, it just got really confused, then a silver arrow sprouted out of its forehead.

"CRUCIO!" Malfoy yelled back. Drew slapped it aside with her sword and it flew right back to Malfoy. He only fell to the ground, and he got up immediately to grit his teeth at Drew.

"You'll never beat me," Drew said calmly, "you know that. I probably know more Dark Magic than Hermione Granger or even your dad! I'm one of the best fighters at Hogwarts, you can't beat me."

That seemed to be the first time Malfoy had ever thought about that, "Oh," he said.

"CUARENPRA! (made up spell)" She slashed with her wand, and purple flame shot out and enveloped Goyle, who screamed. The flames died, and he was on the floor, wailing, his skin full of burns. Most of his clothes had been seared off.

"Drew!" I yelled at her, chasing after her.

She walked over to Malfoy, who desperately dropped to his knees beside Goyle. "Goyle? Gregory? No no no. Hey, buddy—"

"Apologize," Drew scowled, thrusting her sword against his throat. She stepped on his hand, pressing his hand to the grass. "Apologize for everything you've done to me, and everyone."

Malfoy started stammering something nobody could understand, maybe some alien language.

I took down a screeching harpy, shooting fire at its feathers, she fell down in an explosion of flames. "Drew..."

Finally, Malfoy formed some words, "S-s-sorry."

"For what?" Drew asked.

Malfoy breathed hard, "For everything. But can you please, please tell my parents—"

"HEY!" some yelled.

I whipped around as Theodore Nott stalked in front of me.

"Let go of him!" the Slytherin yelled.

An empousa came towards us, and I duelled with her, distracting me from the fight. She seemed to be pretty good at fighting compared to the other ones.

"Why should I?" Drew asked, she smiled evilly at Nott and Malfoy. Malfoy was tuning white with fear.

The empousa swiped her claws at me, and I felt the wind at my arms. I turned around again and bashed her in the arm. She wailed, "That's going to make a scar! OMG! Makeup wouldn't even be able to cover it!"

I bonked her head, she started singing something that sounded like a lullaby in another language, then spun in a circle, and fell on the floor unconcious. I bashed her again, and she exploded into dust.

I quickly turned back to Drew, and to my horror she was strangling Malfoy. His mouth was open wide, and his face steadily turned a horrifying shade of blue.

I yanked at her arms, but her grip was iron. "Drew let go of him!" I shouted

She resisted my commands, and she glared at Draco with a huge intensity because she'd found someone to blame. "This guy killed my friends. He's a Death Eater. He's worked with Voldemort."

"Drew! Stop it!" I knew Malfoy was a terrible guy, but I couldn't let Drew turn into a murderer. Killing another human could kill you as well.

Nott had joined in on trying to pull her hands away, "Stop it, Drew! Don't hurt him!"

"He. Doesn't. Deserve. To. LIVE!!" she seethed. (Now I feel like her fatal flaw is turning into controlling her anger now, but I think anyone would be like this, right?)

"Relashio!" I yelled, finally thinking of a spell I could use.. Drew let go of Draco, and he collapsed to the floor, gasping for breath.

"DRACO!! OH DRACO!!" I saw a woman running across the field. Then she spun on her foot and appeared next to Draco. "DRACO MY BABY!!" I realized this woman must be his mom.

"Mummy!!" Draco gasped, "She tried to kill me!" She pointed to Drew.

"She did, did she?" she yelled. She spun and glared at Drew.

Drew glared back, "YOUR MURDERER FOR A SON KILLED MY BEST FRIEND!! BOTH OF THEM!!"

Her face turned to a shocked one, then she glared again, "I'm sure he had a good reason! We are supporting the Dark Lord! Your friend deserved to die! She was the one who opened the Chamber of Secrets!"

Drew said nothing, she just turned around and marched back to the Forbidden Forest.

I followed her, Malfoy, Nott, and his mom yelling at us from behind.

"Claire didn't deserve to die," I told her, "Eliza didn't either. It wasn't her fault she opened the Chamber."

"Leave me alone," she snapped, and I saw that she was crying again, "just go away."

I did.

I went back to fighting with Nico.

"Sorry about Claire," Nico said, after a few minutes.

"Yeah, well, I barely knew her," I said back. "Still, it hit me."

"Where's Drew?" he asked.

I looked around, spotting her fighting with a Cyclops, screaming insults the whole time. Malfoy was sneaking up to her.

I turned back around, "Letting her anger out."

Wait a minute

I turned around again as Malfoy brought a gold sword out.

"DREW LOOK OUT!!!"

She whipped around, and he stabbed her through the stomach, a triumphant smile on his face as she fell to the ground.
