Chapter 31: Amusement Park Date

Levi's POV

After the entire fiasco with her parents, they allowed me to continue dating Hanji. Even if they didn't approve of me, I doubt Hanji would follow through with what her parents wanted. I believe we will still see each other. We loved each other... no matter what. And to follow Erwin's advice, which I hate to do sometimes, I thought it would be nice to surprise her by going to the nearby amusement park. Sure, it's about 2 hours drive away from where she lived, but we were going to have fun... just the two of us.

I told her parents about the plan, and they excused me for bringing her home late because there were fireworks when I was supposed to bring her home. Hanji, on the other hand, didn't know this. I want to see her smile as bright as the stars tonight.

When I picked her up at her house, she was excited, thinking we were going to walk around the mall or something special. The way her face turned pale when I said it'll be 2 hours until we get there. I don't like that look on her face, but I know the results would be great.

I saw it on her face when one of the amusement park signs appeared. She shook my shoulder, nearly swerving me off the road. "Levi, you're joking! Tell me you're joking!"

"Hanji, hands off of me. I'm driving." She quickly lifts her hands off of me, muttering an apology. "We can stay here until it closes because there are fireworks-."

"What?!" I hear her laughing and squealing in glee. Though it brought pain to my ears, I loved hearing her joyful self. Almost like she was this bright light in my life. No... she will always be the bright light in my life. Always. "Levi, you're joking. I have a curfew."

"You don't tonight. As long as you get home safe and sound, there is no curfew. We're going to see the fireworks at night."

Hanji chuckles softly, leaning back in her chair. "Thank you for this, Levi..."

"Don't thank me before we get there. Thank me when I take you back home."

For hours, we walked around the amusement park and rode on all the rides. Though some I was terrified of, I was glad to hear her shrieks of joy. For her to hold my hand the entire time we were falling. Sure, I watched my wallet slowly deplete because she wanted to eat and buy small souvenirs for us. But I saw her smile... and that brought joy to my heart.

When night fell, I kept Hanji close to me as we found a perfect place to find the fireworks. I could feel her shivering, so I gave her my coat, despite being cold as well.

"Levi, you didn't have to do that-."

"I did, Hanji, I did." I smiled, kissing her cheek. "I need you to stay awake when the fireworks go off."

Hanji chuckles, laying her head on my shoulder as we sat on a concrete bench. We were waiting, holding each other for warmth when we heard the music starting to play. It wasn't long until the sky was lit up with various colors. The two of us snuggled close until the show was over. Then, it was the long journey back home... where I have to say goodbye to her. I can't stay with her overnight... as much as I want to... I can't...

On the way home, she was already falling asleep, nodding off. "Levi..." She whispers under her breath, groaning softly. "I had fun today..."

"I'm glad you had fun," I replied, smiling, "That's all I wanted you to have."

"It's so... suspicious..."

"What is?"

"Why you decided to take me to an amusement park? It's so... not you..."

"I guess you don't know me that well, Hanji."

She chuckles softly, sighing a bit. I wish she won't fall asleep, but if she wants to sleep, she can sleep. I'm not going to stop her from doing so. "Can we do this again? Maybe somewhere else? Maybe make it a yearly thing? Maybe go somewhere else?"

"For those other times, you need to help pitch in with the money. I can't be the only one doing it."

"I know... but still..."

"We'll go out together again. I promise."

"You better keep your damn promise..." Hanji, I swear, I'll never break a promise.
