12. Prayer For The Dying

"Klaus, get your son to calm down, he's scaring my daughter" Damon snapped, walking back and forth in the Forbes living room, trying to calm his daughter down.

"I'm trying" Klaus defended, trying to stop his son from crying, he then turned to his brother, who was sleeping on the couch, "Are you going to help us or not?".

"No" Kol mumbled, turning his back to his brother.

"Unbelievable" Klaus mumbled.

After Aria gave Liz her blood, Kol, Damon and Klaus came back with the food and the babies, after finding out what the girls did, the guys were furious, saying that they should have waited a full night before giving Liz vampire blood, but the two girls were adamant that vampire blood works, it healed their mother and now she was going to be perfectly fine.

Though there was a lot the three vampires wanted to say to the two girls, they also knew where they were coming from, the two sisters were terrified with the thought of losing their mother and they did what they thought would help Liz, now all Damon, Kol and Klaus could do was wait and hope that what Caroline and Aria think is the case, that Liz's cancer is cured and not gotten worse.

Aria and Caroline decided to spend the night in their mother's room, leaving the kids in the hands of their fathers and uncle, while Asher, Alec and Hope were peacefully sleeping in their nursery, Jayden and Mia refuse to sleep.

It started with Jayden going off which then for some reason set Mia off to, so Klaus and Damon quickly grabbed their respective kids and went into the living room, not wanting the other kids to wake up because of the loud crying, and they forced Kol to stay awake with them, saying if they were staying awake all night so was he, much to Kol's annoyance.

"Come on buddy, please stop crying" Klaus begged, trying to stop his son from crying, but failing miserably, "Tell me what you want and I'll get it for you, just stop crying".

"He's not even a month old, Nik" Kol reminded, "He's not going to talk to you".

"Then how am I supposed to help him?" Klaus asked.

"Have you two tried giving them a bottle?" Kol asked, finally sitting up and deciding to help the two panicked fathers.

"Of course we did" Damon snapped, his daughters cries pricking his heart, "We're not idiots, but none of them wanted it".

"Have you checked their diapers?" Kol asked.

"Clean" Klaus replied.

"Maybe they just need each other then" Kol suggested, confusing both Damon and Kol.

"Excuse me?" Damon asked.

"Right, me and Jeremy totally forgot to tell you this" Kol realising, standing up and grabbing the kids playmat that was placed in the corner.

"What did you forget to tell us?" Klaus asked confused.

"Your son Nik, has a thing for Damon's daughter" Kol replied, taking Mia from Damon, "Me, Jeremy and April discovered this when we were babysitting the kids and both Mia and Jayden refused to stop crying until April made them lay next to each other".

"What the hell are you on about Kol?" Damon asked, not liking the words that came out of Kol's mouth.

"Just watch" Kol said, placing Mia on the playmat, he the grabbed Jayden from Klaus and placed him beside Mia.

Klaus and Damon watched in shock, as Mia and Jayden suddenly stopped crying once they were placed next to each other, they then watched as Mia grabbed Jayden's hand which then caused a small smile to form on Jayden's face.

"Bloody hell" Klaus whispered, in awe of the picture infront of him.

While Klaus was happy, Damon was annoyed, he didn't like the smile Klaus's son was giving his daughter.

"Told you" Kol said, a smug smile on his face, "I'm seeing Mystic Falls next IT couple".

"Yes!", "No!", Klaus and Damon said stimuteanously.

 "What do you mean no?" Klaus asked Damon.

"My daughter is not going to be with your son" Damon snapped.

"Why not?" Klaus asked, "Look how adorable they are together".

"My daughter isn't allowed to date anyone, especially not your son" Damon replied.

"Hey!" Klaus said, "Out of all the guys in this world, my son will take the best care of little Mia, he's my son, which means he will be a perfect gentleman to her".

"Exactly Klaus, he's your son" Damon said, "I don't trust him around my daughter".

"What happens if one day your daughter comes to you and tells you that she's in love with my son? What are you going to do then?" Klaus asked, "Because after seeing them together, I can see that happening".

"That's never going to happen" Damon stated.

"We'll see" Klaus said, confident that Kol was right, Jayden Mikaelson and Mia Salvatore were already showing signs of an epic romance.

Before Damon and Klaus could argue anymore, there was a frantic knock on the front door, confusing the three vampires, all wondering who was here at 3 in the morning.

While Damon and Klaus stayed by their kids, Kol went to open the door, opening the door he was shocked seeing a bloody man infront of him.

"Who the hell are you?" Kol asked, opening the door.

"Where is she?".

"Where is who?" Kol asked confused.

"Caroline, where is Caroline Forbes, I want to know what the hell did she do to me".

Before Kol could say anything, the man collapsed to the floor, shocking Kol.

After the guy collapsed, the three vampires quickly moved him into the living room couch, and after placing Mia and Jayden back in their nursery, Damon went and woke both Caroline and Aria up, coming downstairs, Caroline was shocked seeing the state of the man, who she recognised as Colin, the guy she gave her blood, to see if her blood would heal cancer.

"I don't get it, he was fine when I left him at Duke, he was running around and pain-free and scarfing down disgusting vending machine food" A panicked Caroline said.

"Well, I'll tell you one thing, Caroline, he is anything but fine" Damon said.

"Not helping" Klaus told Damon, he then turned to his girlfriend, "Didn't you tell us that you compelled him to forget everything after you fed him your blood, so how the bloody hell did he find you?".

"I don't know" Caroline replied.

"Compulsion wears off when your in transition" Aria whispered, causing realisation to cross over everyone's faces.

"Ri is right" Kol said, "There's a possibility that all this blood on him, isn't even his".

"But if he is a vampire, how did he get in the house without Liz's invite?" Damon asked confused.

Klaus turned to his best friend and girlfriend, "Could there be a chance that your mom signed this house off to you two?".

"We don't know, maybe, she's been running around like crazy saying she needs to get her ducks in a row" Caroline replied.

"If mom did sign the lease over to us, that would explain why he didn't need to be invited in" Aria realised, "Assuming he is a vampire now".

"One way to find out" Kol said, walking over to the curtains, he pulled it open and let the sun shine on Colin, the group looked in shock as they saw Colin's skin burn, confirming their suspicion, Colin was now a vampire, "Well that confirms it".

"He's a bloody vampire" Klaus said.

"Which means after Blondie fed him her blood--".

"He died" Aria finished Damon's sentence, shocked with the new turn of events.

After realising that Colin's condition was getting worse, Damon, Aria and Kol took him to the Whitmore hospital while Klaus and Caroline took care of the kids and Liz.

"I had Duke send over Colin's medical records" Jo informed the trio, showing them Colin's head scan, "This head scan is from earlier this week", Jo showed the trio another head scan, "This one, was taken right here ten minutes ago, see all that red?".

"Well, I'm no doctor, but that guy is screwed" Damon realised.

"So Caroline's blood didn't heal Colin, instead it made his tumor worse and ended up killing him" Kol said.

"So now I have a stage ten cancer patient, which by the way, doesn't exist, who is beyond terminally ill and a vampire" Jo explained, "And all of his emotions are heightened and he can't die".

"Mom" Aria whispered, feeling overwhelmed with all this information, "I fed mom my blood last night".

"Which means the same thing is going to happen to me" Liz said, entering the room with Caroline.

Aria and Caroline looked at each other in immense guilt, realising in an attempt to save their mother from her impending death, they just speeded her death up.

"Medically speaking, this is our best option" Jo informed Damon and Aria, who were standing outside of Liz's room, looking at her through the window, "If vampire blood is the issue, then a full transfusion of human blood, might stabilize her condition".

"Please sound less confident, doc" Damon snapped, glancing at Aria, seeing the dazed look on her face, Damon quickly slipped his fingers into hers and gave her hand a little squeeze.

Aria looked at Damon, tears in her eyes, "I screwed up Damon" she whispered, "I screwed up so badly".

"Hey" Damon whispered, wiping Aria's tears, "She's going to be fine Ria, Liz is a fighter, she will survive, right Jo?".

Damon looked at Jo, who sighed in return, "Look, we are in uncharted territory here" she said, "This isn't just a medical problem, it's magical one".

"Well, then you're uniquely qualified" Damon snapped, seeing Aria panic more hearing Jo's words, "Witch doctor and all".

"Now you believe in my magic, gee, thanks" Jo said sarcastically, as over the past few days Damon had made it perfectly clear that he had no belief in Jo and her magic, "Unfortunately, this goes beyond any witch ability I've ever heard of, but, please, if you have a better plan, I'm all ears".

"I do" Aria whispered, a plan forming in her head, "I have a better plan".

"Which is what?" Jo asked.

"I'll be right back" Aria said, ignoring Jo's question and running away.

"Ria, wait!" Damon yelled, running after his soulmate and grabbing his wrist, stopping her from running away, "Where are you going?".

"I know someone who can help mom, he can remove the blood from her system if Jo's transfusion fails" Aria replied.

"Who?" Damon asked confused.

Aria looked behind Damon, and after making sure Jo wasn't listening to their conversation, she turned to Damon, "Kai" she replied, "Kai is the one who can help us save my mom".

"Finally!" Aria said, standing outside the hospital and trying to call Kai, it was now more then ever she needed him, as Jo had just informed everyone that the blood transfusion on Liz had failed, finally after five missed calls, Kai answered his phone.

"Hey, torture buddy" Kai greeted, "So great to hear your voice again".

"Kai, how would you like to get more magic?" Aria asked, getting straight to the point, "I'm assuming the magic you siphoned from the borders of Mystic Falls has run out by now?".

"Yes it has" Kai informed, confused with how Aria was going to get him more magic.

"What if I told you I could you some magic?" Aria asked.

"And how are you going to do that?" Kai asked.

"I need you to come to the Whitmore hospital and siphon the vampire blood out of my mom" Aria replied, "This way, my mom will live and you will get more magic, seems like a fair deal to me, I'd take it if I was you, please take it".

"Hmm" Kai said, "I'll take the deal, but I want to add something else to the pot".

"Which is what?" Aria asked.

"Jo merges with me, tonight" Kai replied, suddenly putting Aria in a huge dilemma.

"All right, I need a 12-gauge needle, stat" Kai ordered, walking over to Liz, "Don't know what I'm gonna go with it, but I need it".

"Kai, please just get to it" Aria pleaded.

After Kai told Aria his condition, Aria froze, not knowing what to say or do, when suddenly the phone was taken from her by Damon, he told Kai they accepted his condition, and told him to come and save Liz, and though Aria felt really guilty, she couldn't be mad at Damon, cause in the end if it came down to choosing between Liz or Jo, both Damon and Aria would always choose Liz.

"Do your stupid little magic-suction trick and suck the magic out of her, right now" Damon ordered.

"I get what you two see in each other" Kai told Damon and Aria, "Damon, did you know that Aria is as crazy as you? It's very dys-fun-ctional" Kai chuckled, "See what I did? Stressing the fun in dysfunctional".

"Just get on with it, Kai, listening to you talk makes me wanna die" Liz said.

"No dying talk" Aria snapped, making Liz give her an apologetic look.

"Fine" Kai said, he then placed one hand on Liz's arm and the other on her cheek and started chanting.

"Is it working?" Damon asked.

"It's working" Aria assured, looking at her mom in worry.

"What the hell is going on?" A shocked Jo asked, entering the room and seeing Kai near Liz, "What is he doing here?".

"He's helping my mom" Aria replied.

"Hey, sis, little busy, be with you in a jiffy" Kai told Jo.

"Kai, focus" Aria snapped.

"I am, I am, just relax" Kai told Aria.

"Aria?" Jo asked confused.

"I'll explain" Damon said, seeing that Aria didn't want to leave her mom alone.

"Thank you" Aria said, giving Damon a small smile.

"Anytime" Damon said, moving out the room with Jo and explaining what was happening and the condition Kai put infront of them.

"Hey" Noah greeted, entering the room once Damon left.

"Hey" Aria greeted.

"How is she?" Noah asked, Jo having informed him about Liz's situation.

"I don't know" Aria replied honestly.

"There, all done" Kai suddenly said.

"Mom, how are you feeling?" Aria asked, looking at her mom in worry, "Please tell me you're okay".

"I'm okay" Liz assured, suddenly she let out a yell, clutching her chest in pain.

"Mom?!" Aria asked worried, "Mom, what's happening?!".

"She's having an heart attack" Noah realised, moving Aria out of the way and quickly coming to Liz's aid, while Kai used this opportunity to go find Jo for the merge.

"Come on, sheriff" Noah said, giving Liz chest compressions, while a very worried Aria stood by and watched, she didn't know what else to do, there wasn't anything she could do.

"Aria" Damon called out, running into the room with Kol, Kai having taken Jo for the merge.

"Damon" Aria cried, "Mom had a heart attack, Noah's trying, but he's--", Aria couldn't finish her sentence, she didn't have it in her to finish her sentence, she couldn't say it that Noah was having a hard time in saving her mom, her and Caroline were losing their mother.

"One of you people need to find a real doctor!" Noah said, "I'm losing her and that too very fast".

"I'll go" Kol said, running out of the room to find a doctor.

"Please" Aria cried, looking at her mom's body, "Please mom, don't go yet, please don't".

Damon stepped forward and wrapped his arms around Aria, holding her close to him, Aria didn't say anything else, she just tighten her hold on Damon's jacket and sobbed.

"How long has she been down?" A doctor asked, rushing into the room.

"Down, what's the mean?" Damon asked, still holding on to Aria, "Dead?".

"Approximately a minute" Noah replied.

The doctor nodded and started giving Liz shocks, hoping to get her heart beating again, "Clear!".

"Everything packed?" Amelia Connor asked, entering the room, the two best friends packing to leave the Forbes/Connor cabin after a much needed weekend off with their daughters.

"Nearly" Liz replied, "What about you?".

"All done" Amelia replied.

Liz nodded and grabbed a frame in which baby Aria and baby Caroline were sitting on the carpet, holding hands and smiling at the camera.

"They are growing up too fast" Liz said.

"Tell me about it" Amelia said, smiling at the photo, "Today, they rely on us for everything, but one day they aren't going to need us anymore".

"They might not need us one day, but they're always going to need each other" Liz said.

Amelia nodded in agreement, "They are going to be each others anchors, just like you and I".

Liz smiled at her best friend, "I can't wait to see how these two carry on our legacy".

"Me too" Amelia said.

"Hey" Kol snapped, seeing the doctor back away from Liz, "I compelled you to save her, she's not awake yet, so unless you want to die, bloody save her!".

"I've done all that I can do, she's gone" The doctor said, "I'm sorry".

Hearing the doctor, a devasted Aria's knees gave up and she fell to the floor, everyone and everything around her passing in a haze, her eyes were stuck on her mothers dead body, and all she could think about was that she had once again lost her family, once again Aria Connor was left without a mother.

"No" Aria whispered, shaking her head, "No".

"Ria--".

"No!" Aria yelled, she stood up and wiped her tears, "It's not her time yet, Damon, it's not her time".

"Aria, listen--".

"Stay away from me!" Aria yelled, pushing Noah from her, "Don't come near me! My mother isn't gone, it's not her time!".

Before any of the vampires could say anything, Aria ran over to her mothers side, she put her hands over her mother's heart and started giving her chest compressions.

"Come on, mom!" Aria yelled, "Wake up, please, just wake up!".

"Ria" Damon called out, walking over to Aria, "Stop".

"No, Damon" Aria cried, "She can't leave me and Caroline, we can't live without her".

Caroline and Klaus entered the room, and Caroline was shocked seeing the scene infront of her.

"No, no, no" Caroline cried, running over to her mother, "Mom? Mom?! Mommy! No! Mom".

"Mom, wake up!" Aria cried, trying to shake the Sheriff awake, "Please, mom!".

"Don't leave us" Caroline cried, "Please".

"Please come back mom" Aria cried, hugging her mother, "Please come back".

All of a sudden, Liz woke up with a gasp, shocking everyone.

"Mom?" Caroline called out.

"It's okay, I'm right here" Liz told both her daughters.

"Mom" Aria cried, breathing a sigh of relief seeing her mother alive and well.

"Oh, it's okay, I'm right here" Liz assured, "It's okay, I'm right here".

Caroline and Aria hugged their mother, both sisters crying in relief seeing their mother come back to them.

Damon, Kol and Klaus looked at each other, all three breathing a sigh of relief as well, realising Aria and Caroline had their mother for a little bit longer.

Liz slowly opened her eyes, and saw both her daughters sitting on either side of her, holding tightly on to her hands, both not ready to let go just yet.

Liz gave both Caroline and Aria a small smile, "Hello, strangers".

"Hi" Caroline whispered, while Aria stayed quiet.

"Are you two okay?" Liz asked, worried for her Caroline and Aria.

Caroline nodded, while Aria once again stayed quiet, she didn't know what to say or what to do, all she knew was that right now she wanted to spend as much time with her mother as she possibly could.

"We've just been sitting here trying to figure out what to say" Caroline admitted.

"I'm sorry" Aria whispered, "I nearly killed you mom, I'm so sorry".

"That wasn't your fault" Caroline said, "I'm the one who convinced you that giving mom our blood would work, so I'm the one who should be apologising".

"You both have nothing to apologise for" Liz assured, "You know me, I'm the world's unluckiest gambler".

"I'm just sorry that I wasn't here, I couldn't--".

"No, no, no, this wasn't your or Aria's fault, I need you two to stop beating yourself up" Liz said, "Can you two do that for me?".

"Okay" Caroline whispered.

"Can you say it like you mean it?" Liz asked.

Caroline let out a small chuckle, "I will" she promised.

Liz nodded and then turned to Aria, "Your turn".

Aria looked at her mom, and then at her sister, who gave her a small nod, "I will stop beating myself over this" she promised.

"Good" Liz said, "Now, there's one more thing you two need to promise me".

"What?" Caroline asked confused.

Liz grabbed Caroline's hand and placed it in Aria's, "You know, Amelia once said that one day you two aren't going to need your mothers, but you're always going to need each other, so I need you to promise me that no matter what happens, you two will carry on mine and Amelia's legacy, and one day I want you to pass it on to Mia and Hope, they will be the next Aria and Caroline, just like you two were the next Amelia and Liz, promise me no matter what, you two will stick together and will always be there for each other, you will be each others biggest strength, just like Amelia and I were, and just like one day Mia and Hope will be".

Aria and Caroline looked at other, small smiles on their faces.

"I promise mom, me and Aria will always be there for each other" Caroline assured.

"We will be each others biggest strength" Aria promised.

Aria and Caroline looked at each other and then at their mother, "Aria and Caroline promise" they said stimuteanously.

  "Good" Liz said, smiling seeing the love both her daughters shared, "And I promise you both, that I will stick around as long as I can, okay?".

"Deal" Aria said.

"Come here" Liz said, opening her arms.

Without wasting a second, Aria and Caroline lunged forward and hugged their mother.

"Hey" Caroline greeted, breaking the hug and seeing Klaus enter the room.

"Hey" Klaus greeted.

"Where'd you get that?" Caroline asked, pointing to the coffee in Klaus's hand.

"Kol compelled the doctor who failed to save Liz to fix the coffee machine, saying he needs to do something useful in his life" Klaus replied, making the three Forbes girls laugh.

"That smells amazing, I would give you a million dollars for a decaf latte" Liz said, as Klaus handed Caroline the coffee.

"I'll go get you some" Aria said, standing up, "Take care of my mother and sister, Nik".

"Always" Klaus assured.

After giving her mother a smile, Aria left the room, as soon as she left the room, her eyes landed on Damon, who was standing on the end of corridor, talking to the receptionist about something, almost like he sensed her, Damon turned around and faced Aria.

Aria didn't know what came over her, all she knew was that right now all she wanted to do was be in Damon's arms, so without wasting a second, Aria ran over to Damon and hugged him, the impact of the hug nearly causing Damon to fall, but he quickly balanced himself and hugged Aria back.

"Not that I mind, but why this sudden hug?" Damon asked, tightening his hold around Aria, he had really missed her hugs.

"I don't know" Aria replied, still hugging Damon, "I guess I just need it tonight".

Damon didn't say anything, he didn't have to, he understood what Aria wanted and Aria knew that Damon understood what she needed, so without saying anything to each other, both Damon and Aria stood in the hospital corridor, holding on to each other very tightly, both afraid to let go of each other.
