part eighteen

As you were locked in Taehyung's bathroom and you could hear his and Jungkook's muffled voice talking about you, you felt like suffocating suddenly. That's why you left without telling them, to avoid having to argue with them on whether you could go out at this time or not.

You didn't really know how you ended up here after that but it felt right. You were at the hill Jungkook and Taehyung used to go to when you weren't there, the happy place Taehyung and you decided it would be. But as much as the city underneath looked beautiful, it didn't make you feel any better this time.

You let your eyes wonder in the dark scenery facing you as you got lost in your thoughts. Little by little, more memories came back to your mind, shivers running down your spine.

How you were in the dark most of the time, kept in your little room. How he always said sorry when he gave you food but still locked the door twice a few seconds later. How he gave you the local newspaper every day to keep you occupied but there were always some pages missing at the beginning, probably because they were talking about you. How he would spend long minutes hurting you every time you tried to escape but would then give you extra food the following days.

The more you thought about it, the more his behavior seemed weird to you. It was like he was two persons at the same time, one keeping you locked and not caring and the other feeling bad and trying to get forgiven.

And as you let all those memories come back to your mind, it finally hit you. Your friend from High School betrayed you in a way you would never have thought he would. Hoseok, your dear friend for years, kidnapped you and kept you locked for three years. He stole three years that should have been beautiful years from you. And you let him come back in your life as soon as you escaped his control, you let him seduce you and gave him all your trust.

And as you realized this, finally it all became too much. Finally, the pain that had been eating you from inside was suffocating you. The sadness was choking you and you couldn't hold on anymore. You burst in tears as your hands started shaking.

Hardly breathing, tears were flowing from your eyes as if there was no end to it. You gripped the guardrail to keep your balance, your legs feeling too weak to support you suddenly. The world was turning around you and everything was blurry.

You coughed, struggling to take a breath between your sobs. It was happening now. Finally, the pain wasn't numb or buried deep inside you anymore, it was exploding in your heart, your head, your guts.

It felt like your heart was being torn apart as all your demons invaded your head. You fell on the ground, your legs not strong enough to support you anymore. You tried to scream to feel better. Your voice broke, just like you.

After waiting for weeks for this, you wanted it to stop now. Maybe not feeling anything was better than feeling everything too much in the end.

"Y/N !" a voice you knew by heart echoed behind you. You didn't even have the strength to look at him, all your thoughts focused on the burning pain consuming you.

You heard him run before feeling two strong arms surrounding you. You immediately wrapped your arms around him, burying your face in his chest. He pulled you close to him, snuggling his face in the crook of your neck, breathing in your scent as if he had been craving this for too long.

"It's okay, I'm here now," he whispered as you sobbed even more. He softly cradled you as he held you tightly. Your breath became calmer in his embrace.

"Jungkook," you whispered, your voice breaking slightly, "it hurts."

"I know," he kissed your forehead softly as tears stopped flowing little by little, "I promise you it gets easier."

That's when it hit you. Jungkook was there when you broke down. You remember thinking you would need him when you would break down at the hospital the day you woke up. And he was there. You didn't even have to call him, he just knew.

TAEHYUNG'S POINT OF VIEW

YOUR POINT OF VIEW

When you had calmed down completely, he carried you to his car without a word. While he was driving, you looked out of the window, avoiding his eyes as you were slightly embarrassed because of how he had found you earlier. You could feel him glance at you from time to time but you kept your eyes on the scenery outside.

You ended up thinking back to what he said to comfort you. "It gets easier." You wondered if he used to come to this place when you had just disappeared, when the pain was still fresh and burning. You wondered how it felt to him the days following the night you went missing. You wondered if he had someone to hold him like he held you tonight, telling you it was going to be okay.

You fell asleep in his car soon after because when you woke up, he was carrying you to your bedroom at your parents' house. You could hear their questions as he lay you down in your bed carefully.

"What happened ?" "Why are you here with her ?" "Why isn't she with Hoseok ?"

Despite all their questions, you kept your eyes closed. It felt good to be taken care of like that for once. It was probably not right to let him explain everything to your parents but you were so tired, everything felt so hard, you thought you deserved to rest for once.

He waited to have closed the door to answer your parents' questions, making sure not to speak too loudly to avoid waking you up. Knowing he was still attentive about little things like this made your heart beat faster and you soon fell asleep again, a little more peaceful than before.

-

The next day, you spent long minutes hiding the hickeys on your neck before going out of your room. Your parents were waiting for you with a serious expression and tried to comfort you as best as they could. It didn't work that much.

They came with you to the police station but couldn't accompany you to get questioned. You spent hours with an officer to explain what happened the night before and to tell your memories of the years you were missing. You said as much as you could remember but there were still some parts you couldn't remember.

They told you they had to look for more proofs to start a trial against Hoseok. You tried to tell them you were sure it was him but they told you there was a procedure to follow. You didn't insist more, knowing it was pointless. You still learnt Hoseok had been questioned all night but denied everything. Obviously.

When you finally got out of the police station, you didn't know how to feel. You were relieved to know Hoseok wasn't free and able to hurt you but you were disappointed because you thought it would finally be over, but it all had to keep going because of a lack of proof.

You just wanted to have a normal life again.

JUNGKOOK'S FOCUS

Jungkook was in front of the apartment he shared with Soyeon, hoping he wouldn't have to see her. He was exhausted and the last thing he wanted was to get in an argument with her. However, as soon as he got in, he heard her voice coming from the bedroom. He wondered who was there with her when he noticed the panic in her voice. He came closer to the bedroom slowly and saw the door was half opened.

"What do you mean you're at the police station ?!" Soyeon said as Jungkook peeked inside the room and saw she was on the phone with someone. "You're held in custody ?! Are you kidding me ?"

Jungkook held his breath as he tried to guess who she was talking to. No one came to his mind so he kept on listening without saying anything.

"What do you mean it's because of Y/N ? What happened ?" she said after a while and Jungkook felt his heart miss a beat. As soon as she mentioned your name, he became way more focused in the conversation Soyeon was having.

"What did you do Hoseok ?" she eventually let out and Jungkook froze, his heart beating out of his chest.

This made no sense to him. Why would she be talking to Hoseok ? Why did they sound so close ?

"Why are you talking to him ?" he said, his voice shaking as he stepped into the room, containing his anger. She turned around and he saw fear flash in her eyes.

"I can explain," she said as she hung out before coming closer to him. He stepped back making her stop as she looked at him desperately.

"Why are you on the phone with him and why were you talking about Y/N ?" he asked coldly, his blood boiling from anger.

"He called me from the police station, I don't know why he talked about Y/N but-" she stuttered.

"Why the fuck did he call YOU if he is at the police station ?!" Jungkook cut her off, making her flinch because of how loud his voice was suddenly.

"I- Jungkook-" she tried to come closer again but he stepped back, keeping a distance between them.

"Are you cheating on me with him ?" he finally asked and she immediately shook her head panicked.

"No, no it's not that at all-"

"Then why are you close enough for him to choose to call you ?!" Jungkook said, his heart beating out of his chest.

"He- He is my cousin," she eventually let out as she looked down.

"What ?" Jungkook said in disbelief.

"We're cousins, that's why he called me. Because we're the closest in our family-"

"And you never thought about telling me he was your cousin after all the time we've been together for ?!"

She looked up and her eyes were shining because of tears. He gulped hardly, not believing what was happening at this moment. She didn't answer immediately and let a heavy silence settle between them.

"I didn't want you to know I've known you from High School," she eventually whispered.

"What do you mean you've known me from High School ? We met less than two years ago."

"I actually knew you before we met at the party," she said after a while, guilt showing in her voice, "I knew who you were thanks to Hoseok because he was friend with Y/N."

"And why didn't you tell me ?"

"Because I was embarrassed. I crushed on you for years before you even noticed me so I thought I should just act like I met you for the first time when you talked to me at this party. That's why I told Hoseok we should pretend we don't know each other."

Jungkook stayed silent, not knowing what to think of this. He would probably not have thought much of it if she had told him from the start and if her cousin wasn't Hoseok. But right now, it seemed like something too big to let it slide just like that.

"Do you know what he did ? If you're so close, you must know about what he did, right ?!" he asked, ignoring her sad face.

"He told me they arrested him because of Y/N but I just know they went on a date yesterday-"

"He is the one who kidnapped her," he cut her off and his heart felt less heavy as he saw she was genuinely surprised.

"You're kidding, tell me you're kidding," she asked anxiously and he didn't notice her hands started shaking.

"Why would I be ?! That's why he is at the fucking police-" he didn't have time to finish his sentence as he saw Soyeon turn white. A second later, he was catching her before she fell to the ground. He carried her to the bed before trying to wake her up. After a few seconds she finally opened her eyes and as soon as she remembered what just happened, she started having a panic attack.

Even though Jungkook was mad at her for lying to him and felt weird because she was Hoseok's cousin, he still cared about her. That's why he didn't hesitate to take her in his arms, whispering sweet nothings while stroking her back until she calmed down.

"I'm sorry Jungkook," she eventually said quietly and he took his arms off around her before getting up.

"You should probably go see him."

"I don't want to," she got up as well and tried to take his hands but he shook her off before turning away from her.

"I'm gonna live at Taehyung's place for some time," he said quietly as he started preparing a bag with all his stuffs. She stayed still in the middle of the room, watching him pack helplessly.

"Jungkook..." she eventually said with a shaking voice, "What about us ?"

He looked at her for a second before walking out of the room, her following behind.

"I don't know." With that, he ignored her eyes filled with tears again and just left the apartment without another word.
