Chapter 21: Run

I watched the Eyes on my hands pulse and glow at periodic moments. Getting them back with me felt right. So right. I had rightfully retrieved the Eyes and Pandora's Box from the demons of Barsburg. Yet, it meant that I once again bore the heavy burden of carrying them.

I was still on my knees, huffing and puffing. It felt as if I was carrying a ton of the heaviest metal on Earth. Mikhail mumbled something about me being weak as hell and I cursed at him.

"Shit," I cursed as I fell to the ground, my body now touching the cold ground of the lab. Arragon hurried over to my side worriedly and stretched out his hand to pull me back up.

"Ah, wait. Not yet, I'm not done adjusting," I mumbled to him.

"The guards won't wait for you to adjust."

"Give me a break! Why don't you try carrying these heavy little shits in your body?" I retorted, closing my eyes and trying to rest.

It's only been awhile and you already get this weak from carrying us.

Leave her alone, Mikhail. It's been tough on her. No rush my dear Selaena.

At least Raphael was merciful.

Arragon suddenly stiffened and I did too, slightly startled. He ran over to the doors of the lab and paused, listening intently. He abruptly turned and ran back to me, yanking me up by the arm, "we have to go. Now."

I groaned as I hauled myself up. It was only after I actually got back on my feet when I heard the thundering of footsteps. My senses told me it wasn't just a few guards.

As Arragon pushed open the doors of the lab to the corridor, my eyes widened as I watched the group of guards no, soldiers, approach us at an insane speed.

"Sister, we have to go now!" he grabbed my hand and pulled me towards another random door.

The doors slammed open and we rushed through. Now we had no clue how to get back. I was about to suggest teleporting when Arragon suddenly cried out and fell to the ground. I halted to get to him, and the same happened to me.

Selaena! Some- Not righ...Get o-

Raphael's voice in my head came in short segments, as if it was a broken radio, until it finally stopped. I couldn't hear him anymore. Something was wrong.

As we both lay on the ground wounded and hurt by an unseen force, the soldiers had caught up with us. Great.

The Chief of Staff came forward through the crowd of soldiers, staring down at Arragon and I. I turned away, unable to face him.

"You think we would let you get away so easily?" he said, his words harsh.

"Fuck you," Arragon spat at him. I laughed internally.

Ayanami, or Krowell, ignored my brother's rude comment and turned to look at me. I could feel his gaze burning into me but I desperately ignored it.

"Selaena," he breathed out.

I turned to glare harshly at him, "don't use that tone with me, you bastard! You have no bloody right to!"

Krowell, if he was hurt by me lashing out at him, didn't show it. He couldn't, he couldn't let anyone in the Military see him as a man destroyed by me.

"What have you done to us?" Arragon demanded, as he was dragged up to his feet by the soldiers.

"If you had the Eyes all to yourself for a while, wouldn't you like to know its weaknesses?" Krowell smirked.

They had done something to the Eyes. But Mikhail and Raphael would know, or maybe they won't? Impossible.

"You sick, evil bastard! You won't have your way!" Arragon screamed at him.

The soldiers came over to me, their hands around my arms and pulling me up. I struggled against them, whacking them feebly. "Don't touch me!" I hissed at them.

All of a sudden, it felt as if something was switched off...or on. My fatigue and powerlessness seemed to disappear. Was it a device then? I continued my facade of looking drained and glanced at Arragon, who was glaring so intensely at Krowell.

So only I felt it. Arragon was still clearly weak, he couldn't stand on his own two feet.

Selaena!

Oh thank god! Mikhail, Raphael, what happened? Was it a device?

I forgot to tell you about it. All it does is sort of cut the connection off and weakens anyone who bears some power from the Eyes. The effect is supposed to continue even after it being turned off for awhile but...

I don't care, it's good I'm not like that. Big question is, can I teleport now?

Hell yea you can.

I willed my brother to look at me, and he did. I gave him the best discreet wink I could ever muster and he looked like he wanted to laugh and cry at the same time.

"Bring them to the cells, first. I'll get the-" Krowell broke off as I pushed away the soldiers that were holding me. They hit the door and fell slumped to the ground.

I threw a punch at Krowell, my fist connecting with the side of his face. He fell back, clearly surprised as all he did next was stare at me.

"Go to hell," I hissed fiercely at him before running over to my brother.

The minute I touched Arragon on his arm, we disappeared.

...

It was the first time I teleported, so no one could exactly blame me for my shortcomings.

We crashed into a fountain, and I hit my head on the concrete. Arragon landed face down in the water.

He lifted his head, the top half wet, and glared weakly at me, "of all places, a fountain?"

I sat up and massaged my head, "a fountain wasn't the first thing I thought of, but um, sorry."

The Church in the Seventh District was the first thing I thought of. But Krowell would send his troops here for us soon, it was obvious.

"They'll be coming soon. Can you stand?" I asked as I tried to pull my brother to his feet.

"Give me a moment," he huffed.

Selaena.

They were coming already. I whacked Arragon on the head as an attempt to wake him up and he hissed at me, "the hell was that for?"

"They're coming! C'mon, I need you to get us back to your mansionette. Now."

"You're running pretty low on patience. Alright, give me your hand," he asked and I put my hands in his.

Then we were gone.
