Chapter 20: Return of the Angels

My eyes fluttered open, awoken by nothing in general.

The bedroom I occupied was cold from the wind blowing in through the windows that stretched from the floor all the way til the ceiling.

I shifted my body so that I faced the ceiling. My eyes were still heavy from sleep and puffy from crying. I felt like I got punched in the face. My eyes never felt more swollen.

The clock on the bedside table read 10 in the morning and I sighed softly.

All I've been doing these past 2 days was crying and mourning for my dead parents. I had never so desperately wanted to see someone so badly. I craved for my mother's touch and my father's hugs. It was a deep hungry ache that clawed at me continuously knowing that I would never be able to hear, see or touch them again.

I rose from the bed, pushing the blanket aside and placed my feet on the cool wooden floor. I barely had the mood or energy to do anything now. I was devastated, knowing that he was the one who killed our parents.

Suddenly, I felt guilty for not recognising Arragon as my brother back then. Oh the pain he must have felt.

Nauseous again, I took deep breaths as I made my way out into the bathroom down the hall. After my routine, I climbed down the steps to find Arragon walking through the front door with bags in his hand.

He smiled awkwardly, "I can't cook...so I bought breakfast. Is it okay?"

"Yea, it's fine. Don't worry," I replied, walking over to help him with the bags.

Arragon had been cautious with everything he said or did. He knew I was in my most fragile state, where I was trying to come to terms with what happened all those years ago.

We sat down at the dining table to eat, and we did it in silence. That's how mealtimes went by so far.

Arragon had brought me over to his mansionette apartment, which was pretty cool in my opinion. It was a two-level house, just that it was in apartment instead.

"You holding up okay?" he broke the silence.

I paused, my fork dangling in mid-air before I put it back down, "yea I am. I need to stop being in this state though, it sucks."

"Is there...anything else you want to know?"

I stared at my half-eaten buttermilk pancakes, "how did we separate?"

I watched as he frowned, "I can't remember to be honest...After our parents...The Eye of Mikhail took over your body and teleported us out of there. Wait, have you not recovered that part of your memories?"

I shook my head, "no. I only remembered when..." I gulped, "but the rest I don't remember at all. I may have lost my memories due to shock or something."

"I doubt so, but an-"

I slammed my hand on to the table, gaping at my brother who did the same back in surprise.

"The Eye of Mikhail and Raphael!" I yelled.

"W-what?"

"It's in Barsburg! They made a replica of me and dumped them in that replica!" I stood up abruptly, "I have to go get it back. They belong with me."

"Replica...wait what replica? What did that son of a bitch do now?" Arragon growled.

"Not important, we have to go get it back. It's in some weird part of the science-y area in the Military."

Arragon pulled me back down on the chair, "eat first and then we'll go get it."

I groaned before picking up my cutlery again, "bastards better not have tampered with it."

Arragon laughed.

"Glad to see you back as yourself."

...

"Why can't I teleport like you? How did you even get your powers?" I whispered to him while we both sneaked around the military campus trying to find my replica body.

Arragon stared at me, puzzled, before he replied, "I forgot you haven't recovered that part of your memories yet." He peeked around the corner of the wall, halting me, "Mikhail blessed me with some, figured I could need some in the future."

"I have some too but I think it's not all of it..." I pondered as Arragon motioned that the hallway was clear.

We both walked quickly to the end of hallway, and was greeted with another giant door that resembled the others that we've found so far.

"Of course it's not all of it. But now, let's see if this is the correct door," Arragon muttered as he raised his hands and placed them on the door.

"What's behind door number 9?" I chuckled as he pushed them open with effort.

We were immediately greeted with a wave of chemical-smelling substances and I gagged. This was definitely it. Arragon made a disgusted face as we both walked through, it was another similar long hallway but the smell was different.

"Do you not remember how to get there?" Arragon groaned.

"I literally walked around this maze of a building and ended up staring at it. I can't remember no shit man."

We continued to walk cautiously, researchers could appear anytime and we would be so screwed. I spotted Arragon staring at me and I raised my brow. He shook his head and I shrugged it off.

Surprisingly, I hadn't broken down anytime anywhere back here. I seemed to have put my parents' deaths and Ayanami behind me already. I just needed to get The Eyes and Pandora's Box back before he does some weird stuff with it. I don't trust him.

I didn't even know what to call Ayanami now. Do I use his original name? What was even going on between us now? My heart was still shielded by high walls from him. I could never forgive him for what he had done.

There was another door, that Arragon had to push open again. He swore multiple times in 10 minutes already.

"I hate this place. Who the hell decided to make long-ass hallways with nothing in them?"

"Beats me." I mumbled, feeling a slight tingling in my hands. I stared at them, and frowned.

Arragon glanced at me and grinned, "we're close."

The minute door number 10 opened, my eyes settled on a large glass cylindrical tube smack right in the middle of the room. All around the tube though, were machinery and computers with wires hanging everywhere. An upgrade was definitely made in this place.

My replica, was floating in the glass tube, still wearing the same white dress and still having the same peaceful look on her face.

I spotted The Eyes, who were clearly on each of her hands.

I ran so fast I nearly collided into the tube and I heard Arragon trying to stifle his laugh. I placed a hand on the tube and immediately The Eyes started to glow. Arragon motioned me to the side as his scythe materialised into his hand.

"You think there's an alarm system?" he asked, his scythe raised high to hit the glass.

"Let's hope not," I prayed as Arragon swung.

The glass shattered loudly and my replica fell forward. I raised my arms to catch her but the minute I touched her, my replica dissolved into wisps which flowed through me. I watched, with a burning sensation in my hands, as The Eyes took their positions once again. I let out a yell and fell to the floor on my knees, my hands holding me up. Holding Veloren's, or Veloria's body was huge pain in the ass.

I heard Mikhail and Raphael give their sarcastic greetings in the back of my mind.

I rolled my eyes, "welcome back, boys."
