Insanum Mens

A/N: I would recommend not to play the video until you see the next A/N in the story.

Staring into his purple eyes, you searched them for any sign of falsity, but you saw none. His words repeated in your mind. Even after hearing them, you struggled to put your trust in him. Why did his words sound so hollow even though his eyes showed otherwise? Your thoughts were interrupted when you felt him remove you from his hold.

"Lucian ..."

Before you could say anymore, he cut you off, saying, "My pet, let's hold off the matter for now. It really will be best if we finish with the sanatorium before nightfall, since I'm presuming that is when the creature in the building is the strongest due to it attacking its victims at that time."

Sighing, you just nodded in reply, feeling the tension between you two ease. Now the quiet air wasn't awkward, but peaceful. Though, the silence was soon broken by your stomach growling lightly. Blushing slightly due to embarrassment, you noticed that Lucian stopped and looked down at you smirking. You merely glared at him. Why was he smirking? He was the one who took you out of the mansion before you could eat anything. However, you saw him reach into his coat pocket before pulling out a wrapped up pastry, which resembled a pop tart somewhat. Holding it out to you, you hesitantly took it, examining it in the process.

Unwrapping the pastry, you gave it one last look before biting into it. Though it resembled a pop tart, it tasted nothing like one. In fact it tasted more like you had bitten into a chicken pot pie. The pastry was hot like it had just come out of the oven and brought a small smile to your face in satisfaction.

"Thank you," you mumbled, as the two of you started to walk onward once more.

"You're welcome, my pet."

"Are you not going to eat?"

"Hmm, I have no desire for food at the moment. Though, I'm glad to see that you're enjoying your meal."

Merely nodding, you continued to press forward. Time passed, as your food diminished until you rolled up the remaining wrapper and put it in one of your coat pockets, not knowing what else to do with it. During this time, you occasionally would glance over at Lucian. His coat flowed out behind him in a graceful manner while his eyes seemed to have a far off look to them. You could tell he was thinking about something, but what? If you could just know what he was thinking, then you could know whether or not to trust him. Focusing back on the path in front of you, you noticed the trees disappearing up ahead.

Soon your (e/c) eyes saw a three story abandoned mansion made out of beige stone. However, you knew that the mansion used to once house those considered mentally ill. Roof tiles were falling off, leaving spaces of bare roof. Windows were broken and shattered while others were covered with wooden boards or stone. The front doors were missing, allowing the onlooker to see the darkness that lay inside. Overall an ominous presence hung over the place.

Your eyes still staring at the building, you found yourself looking for anything in the windows. At one point you could have sworn that you saw something run past some of the windows on the west wing of the second story. When Lucian rested his left hand on your right shoulder, you jumped a little in surprise. Shaking his head a little at your reaction, you rolled your eyes before taking his hand off of your shoulder.

Amused by your action, he asked, "Are you ready to enter, my pet? You seem rather frightened."

"Whatever, let's just get this over with. I don't want to be in that building any longer than I have to."

"Agreed, though this creature will not be an easy target."

(A/N: Play video here and put on loop due to short length) Nodding your head in reply, you began to follow Lucian into the building. On your way into the sanatorium, snow began to fall. The intricate snowflakes fell to the ground before adding to the already snowy floor. Some landed on your hair and clothes before beginning to melt slowly. Funny, how the outside could be this peaceful while the inside was a treacherous monster lying in wait with its jaws opened wide for its next victims.

Feeling your body tense, you followed after Lucian, climbing up the steps into the inside of the sanatorium. Even though nothing had happened yet, you could your heartbeat increase. Everything inside was covered in darkness except for the little amount of natural light that came into the building. Though, something in your mind told you that there should be more natural light illuminating the halls.

"Lucian how do we get to the tunnel that leads to the mask piece?"

"We need to go to the right and enter the room at the end of the hall. Inside there is a storage cabinet, which is bolted to the wall. However, if one opens the doors to the storage cabinet they will see a hole inside. That hole reveals the stairs that lead down into the tunnel."

After hearing his directions, the two of you headed down the right hallway. However, you kept having the feeling that something was watching you. In fact you could feel eyes on your back. Hesitantly, you looked behind you, seeing nothing. Though, you picked up the sound of multiple feet running across the floor of the sanatorium. Fear overcoming you, you tugged on the sleeve of Lucian's coat. When he peered down at you, he merely signaled you to remain quiet and to continue walking down the hallway.

With your heartbeat quickening at a rapid pace, you heard many pairs of feet behind you. They were getting closer and closer, as the sound of something scraping across the tile echoed down the halls. Biting the inside of your cheek, you felt multiple presences right behind you. At that moment, Lucian turned around, sending a large gust of wind in the direction of the presences. Having turned around yourself, you saw people of all ages with bags over their heads while patient robes covered their bodies. However, the most disturbing factor was their long razor sharp red nails.

"I thought there was only a supposed to be one monster."

"There is only one monster, but its staying here must have affected the bodies that were here and turned them into something dreadful."

"Wait, the bodies of the deceased mental patients were just left here to rot?"

"No they were in the morgue of the sanatorium or buried in the graveyard at the back. Though, as you can see that's no longer the case."

Having said that, Lucian drew forth twin blades, which were made purely out of fire. Not a second later had Lucian ran at the patients, swinging the blades across them all. Instead of the bodies lighting the rest of the place on fire, they incinerated after a few seconds of the fire making contact with them. However, there was still a considerable amount of patients left. With no weapon in your hands, you watched, hoping that none of the patients would run at you.

As you watched the fight, you thought multiple times that Lucian would be sliced in half, but he gracefully dodged all of the patients' attacks. Their long nails missed him by mere centimeters. You couldn't help but be impressed by his fighting capabilities. Every movement he made seemed to be carefully determined, yet there was less than a second between each move, each swing of the swords. Though, your eyes caught something separate from the patients moving on the first floor. A shadowy being that crawled on all fours with bright white eyes stared intensely at Lucian. Seeing it move towards Lucian, your eyes widened. Calling out to Lucian, you tried to warn him of the oncoming danger, but he couldn't hear you over the screams of the falling patients.

Cursing, you ran towards Lucian, calling out his name. Still not hearing you, you decided to distract the creature instead. Catching sight of a wooden board, you grabbed hold of it and charged at the creature. Though, just as you were about to strike the creature with the board, it lunged into the air. The board missed its target, allowing the creature to jump to the opposite side of you. Its white eyes shone at you while a thin grin of red teeth smiled at you. Its grin sent a wave of dread through you, as the creature began to stand on its two legs while its long arms dangled at its sides.

Before you could determine its next move, it appeared next to Lucian, who had just finished killing off the last of patients. Though, you had the feeling that more patients lurked in the halls of the sanatorium. However, you were now more concerned with the strange monster. Lucian just noticed the being standing next to him. He wasn't given any time to react, as the monster moved quickly behind him. Its shadowy long fingers grasped his head, as a loud penetrating scream filled the halls.

Hearing Lucian's scream, terrified you. You had never expected to hear him scream and you now wished you never had. To hear such a sound escape the lips of someone, who held such power, only revealed to you how deadly that creature was. Its red teeth grinned in delight, as it withdrew its hands from Lucian's head. Vanishing into the darkness of the sanatorium, it left you to stare upon Lucian's falling form. Quickly you ran over to him. Now on his knees, he held his head in his hands. A deathly silence swept over the hall, as you glanced at Lucian with worry lacing your eyes.

"Lucian, are you alright," you asked hesitantly.

No answer left his lips, as his hands draped down loosely to his sides. When his purple gaze met your (e/c) orbs, a newfound fear filled you.
