(3) THE FIRST GIFT

Madri remained lost in memories of Pandu and Kunti, deeply. The pain of losing husband and a sister dearer than blood was haunting her in those days. Arjun used to spend more time with Madri due to that reason.

"Mata, we can feel your sadness, but don't be sad for something which is unchanged," Arjun held Madri's hand, softly.

"We don't have control on emotions, my dear. Even if we practice to fix control on those yet emotions to pave ways towards us," melancholy of her heart moved on to her face.

"I can't let your sadness to replace your smile. You are the most important for us. We want you to be happy, and your sons are always with you," he tightened the grip on her hand to convey his assurance.

"I think she's bored of her sons. She wants grandsons," Nakul jumped in between to jerk out the seriousness in between Arjun and Madri.

"No, Nakul! Not again!" Arjun threw a warning glare at Nakul.

"He's saying right, Arjun. I want to see my grandchildren playing in front of me," Nakul's statement changed Madri's mood, successfully.

Madri had approached Arjun numerous times for marriage, but he had avoided that topic each time. Noticing no interest from Arjun's side, Madri never could initiate even a single proposal for Arjun.

"You aren't that much old to become grand mother, Mata!" Arjun wrapped Madri in a side hug after gazing at her keenly as if he was calculating her age.

"You always do like this! Whenever I approach you for your marriage you just deny me, smartly," a disappointed Madri huffed at antics of Arjun.

Arjun could show his antics over that topic, especially. So, Madri never liked to force him making him serious which he used to act around most of the time.

"It's not like that, Mata. I want to enjoy some more days being just your son. No responsibility of any other relationship," Arjun's pleading eyes melted Madri making her caress his cheeks.

"You are sounding like a girl who gives emotional excuse for escaping from marriage proposals," Nakul bursted out at the sight of Arjun getting pampered.

"On the mention of girl, I have remembered about Subhi. She's a sweet girl. In your absence she cheers me up," remembrance of Subhi made Madri smile, fondly.

"Mata is praising Subhi. So, I think you don't need to blush here on her behalf," Nakul whispered to Arjun who was admiring Madri's fondness for Subhi.

"Will you please spare some moments of freedom to me, Mr. stalker?" Arjun tried to sound dominant, but the sensation inside him didn't support him.

"I have told the truth. Wait for few moments. Even, Mata will ask about the appearance of crimson red shades on your cheeks," the mischievous smirk of Nakul made Arjun alert.

"Mata, I am going to get fresh. I will be back," picking up a suitable excuse, Arjun left from there.

"Nakul, why do you trouble your brother like this? I am sure that you have done some mischief, and that's the reason Arjun was seeming uncomfortable," Madri's scolded Nakul with a sharp glare.

Nakul couldn't resist his chuckle thinking how much naive his mother was, and being her son how much mischievous he was!

"Why are you chuckling without reason? You didn't even let me share the news of her arrival with Arjun," Madri hit on Nakul's arm to bring him back to sense.

"No need of that, Mata. I don't want her to snatch my share of attention before her arrival," Nakul's tone changed into a sulky one.

"Why are you starting the banter from now itself? Let her arrive at first, and try to be nice with her. It's going to be her first visit after her marriage," Madri was hoping to change Nakul's mood mentioning the last line.

"She enjoys my fights with her. So, fighting with her is the best way to be nice with her," the mischievous smirk shone on Nakul's face again making Madri face palm over the attitude of her naughty son.

Arjun turned towards Subhi's chamber instead of his chamber. The reason was he had left a gift for her, and wanted to check whether she got that or not. Reaching at the door of her chamber, he found her chamber empty.

He saw that his gift was lying on dressing table where he had kept that. Subhi was actually at balcony after evening bath. To his fortune, she came into chamber without making him wait for her.

She sat in front of dressing table, and started to wear those minimal dressing stuff which she used to put on herself.

Suddenly, her attention grabbed by a garland of medium length. She picked that up, and smelled that after flashing a wide smile.

In actual, he gifted that garland to her. He knew that if he had gifted anything expensive then she would haven't accepted that. He was observing her activities from outside.

He felt like her touch was reaching to him through her actions with his gift. She put the garland on her neck. He couldn't believe that someone could be bestowed with this much beauty to look beautiful by putting on a garland, simply.

He imagined her in the garland of their wedding, and promised himself to turn the imagination into the truth of his life.

The realisation of someone's presence demanded his attention for some time, but when he ensured no one was there he turned back to resume his task of admiring her with the adornment gifted by him.
