Chapter 6

Health examinations are a crucial event for any student. Most school admission criteria include specific requirements for physical fitness, covering aspects from height and gender to genetic levels. There is no room for any errors.

Even though Bai Yue was uncertain about the issue at hand, he followed the teacher's instructions and went to the hospital early in the morning.

The number of students undergoing health examinations today was considerably less.

After inquiring at the hospital reception, Bai Yue found the relevant department and followed the procedures for a thorough examination.

The process was mostly similar to the previous one. When he completed the final test, he sat up and asked, "Doctor, where did I go wrong?"

The physician stood in front of the screen, holding a notebook with a serious expression, seemingly not hearing Bai Yue's question.

Bai Yue insisted, "Doctor?"

"Ah." The doctor finally snapped back to reality, looking at Bai Yue, "You're done; you can leave now."

Bai Yue inquired, "Is there a problem? Should I wait for the results now?"

The doctor pondered and said, "Wait a moment. Let me confirm with the supervisor. Go to the room across the hall and wait for me."

Confirm with the supervisor?

Anxiety welled up in Bai Yue's heart, but seeing that the doctor was busy, he didn't press further. Following the instructions, he walked out of the examination room.

The room across the hall was a consultation area, equipped with basic medical supplies and a computer. A sofa was placed against the wall.

Bai Yue sat down on the sofa, and after a short while, he received a message.

It was from Li Ren.
【Good student, why did you skip class today? Are you okay?】

Bai Yue replied: 【It's okay, I came to the hospital today.】

After another ten minutes or so, the door of the department opened. The doctor who had asked him to wait walked in. There was no expression on his face as he held a blue folder and carefully closed the door.

"Sorry for the wait."

The doctor took a seat in front of Bai Yue.

Seeing the doctor's cautious demeanor, Bai Yue's mind speculated on unfavorable possibilities. He asked, "Doctor, am I sick?"

Upon hearing the question, the doctor paused and replied, "Although such cases are rare, it doesn't necessarily indicate an illness."

"Anyway, take a look at this."

He handed over the folder he held.

Bai Yue took it, flipped it open, and found a stack of documents filled with text. Various professional terms and hormone levels with percentage figures were listed.

He flipped through the pages until the last one. Though he struggled with the professional content, he believed he understood the conclusion in the last column.

The writing was intricate, and after scrutinizing it for a while, Bai Yue confirmed its meaning. Slowly lifting his head, he looked at the solemn-faced doctor.

"Alpha?"

The doctor affirmed, "Yes, according to our assessment, an extremely rare secondary differentiation has occurred in you. Currently, all data indicates a change in your gender. Alongside the awakening of pheromones, your physique should also be affected..."

The doctor provided a lengthy explanation, concluding, "Congratulations, you are now an outstanding Alpha."

Bai Yue closed his eyes, attempting to organize his thoughts. After a moment of contemplation, he opened them again, "Since birth, including my birth certificate..."

"And all identification documents indicate that I am an Omega."

The doctor nodded, "So, you'll need to go to the relevant department to update the registration. If you require proof, you can contact our hospital, and we'll assist."

Bai Yue set down the large stack of documents, remained silent for a moment, and managed a forced smile, "Could there be some mistake?"

The doctor shook his head, "It's precisely because we wanted to avoid mistakes that we had you come in for another check. Please rest assured; our assessment is absolutely accurate."

Bai Yue clasped his hands and placed them on his knees.

Seeing the student's distressed expression, the doctor offered words of comfort, "Secondary differentiations are indeed rare. In my many years of practice, this is the first time I've encountered such a case. I understand your feelings. But look at it from another perspective, compared to Omega, Alpha individuals enjoy more societal resources."

"Although your genetic test results are not out yet, regardless of the outcome, Alphas receive more attention than Omegas."

Finally, the doctor grinned, revealing a set of white teeth, "Congratulations, you've become an outstanding Alpha."

Bai Yue didn't know how he left the hospital. He was still dazed when he walked out, not paying attention to his surroundings, and suddenly collided with a pillar.

Then, with his head against the round column, he stood frozen in place.

He had become an Alpha.

Alpha ?

Bai Yue was unwilling to believe it, but after confirming with the doctor multiple times, and the doctor insisting there couldn't be a mistake, he had no choice but to accept this reality.

If he became an Alpha, what changes would occur in his life?

Bai Yue's mind was a mess, various thoughts and concerns flooding in.

Since birth, he had been an Omega, and from the beginning of his memory, he had a sense of self-identification with this status.

Though he couldn't be certain how his personality and life would have changed if he were originally an Alpha, at least until now, all his choices and actions were based on his identity as an Omega.

And among these choices, the most profound was his agreement to be in a relationship with Shang Yufei.

Even though their relationship lasted less than a year, in reality, he had developed feelings for Shang Yufei long before that.

As an Omega with an Alpha partner, he naturally assumed he would become Yufei's wife, preparing himself for marking and childbirth. He wanted to spend his life with Shang Yufei, envisioning a future that had long been outlined in his mind. Unless Yufei abandoned him, he didn't expect much change in their life so far or their expectations for the future.

Until today.

The doctor informed him of his secondary differentiation into an Alpha.

Bai Yue: "..."

The cool sensation of the pillar against his forehead gradually calmed him.

The chaotic and tangled emotions settled, leaving only one clear thought in his mind.

He didn't want to break up with Shang Yufei.

—So, Shang Yufei must not find out about this.

After making the decision, the subsequent actions became clear.

Bai Yue stood up straight, walking towards the direction of the hovering public bus, his expression now calm.

In any case, this had to be kept a secret. At least until Shang Yufei returned to the military academy, it must not be revealed.

The only fortunate thing was that the doctor called him to the hospital without involving his parents. Apart from the hospital, only he knew about this situation. Due to confidentiality agreements, the doctor wouldn't disclose anything. So, as long as he kept it to himself, it wouldn't be noticed for the time being.

It had to be done this way.

Author's note:
Doctor: "Congratulations, you've become an outstanding Alpha."
Bai Yue: ... Thanks, no need to repeat it twice.
