Chapter Nine

One week has passed since the dinner and Ophelia was trying to avoid Sam. And that was killing him. He didn't know what he did wrong. Now she wasn't avoiding him when the guys would come to her house and have dinner. But she was avoiding him in every single situation they could be alone.

Ophelia was trying to follow Leah's wishes even though it hurt her. Literally. She started feeling chest pains, headaches and tiredness. Of course, she didn't know that any of it had to do with the imprinting; Sam knew. But since she wasn't talking to her, he didn't know.

Sam wanted to talk to her and ask her what was wrong but every time he tried to go, Ophelia would just leave her house or go inside. It made his heart clench with hurt and worry. Also, being away from her started to hurt. He was more tired and more distracted something that Paul and Jared took notice of. They both made a mental note to ask Ophelia what was bothering her with Sam, at least they could help their Alpha and close friend.

"Ophelia! Sorry for bothering you. I just wanted to know if you wanted to go to dinner with me." Dr. Kennings told her with a smile that made her smile softly at him.

"Um, okay. When do you want to go?" She replied making him laugh with excitement.

"What about today at nine? I can pick you up?"

"Of course, thank you. I can send you my address later." They said their goodbyes where Ophelia told him what she should wear making him compliment her that anything she wears would look beautiful on her.

Ophelia was packing her bag when her phone rang, immediately making her smile when she saw the name contact on the phone.

"Kathy! Oh my god, we haven't talked in years."

"I know! I'm sorry, I was adjusting to my job. I miss you so much. But let's stop talking about work. How are you doing in La Push? How was your first day? Is there any man?"

"God! You never change. First, everything is going okay. I'm very happy now that I'm near my family, I couldn't ask for more. My first day was pretty good actually. My coworkers are very kind and supportive. I was nervous at first but everyone welcomed me." She started explaining trying to avoid the last question.

"I'm glad that everything is going fine. Although you didn't answer my last question." She finished the last statement with a sing song voice. "Now tell me..."

"Well, there is this man. That... I don't know how to feel about it."

"Mhm, sounds complicated. Talk to me, honey."

"Well, remember my cousin Leah?" She started before hearing a 'mhm' sound, "Well, she was engaged to this guy called Sam. I always knew Sam but never talked with him. So, explaining shortly... he broke off the engagement. And well, he lives in front of my house. I tried to talk to him and be for him as a friend just as I was with Leah; she's my family. He told me that he felt free. They were always fighting with each other. Me and him have friends in common. So, I decided to start inviting them every day to my house for dinner, lunch or just to hang around 'cause I don't like to be alone. And we started spending time together, then alone. But not like kisses or anything just like friends. And I started feeling something for him. Last week, I went to my parents house to have dinner with my aunt's family and Leah stopped me and said that she didn't want me to spend time with Sam. And... that they were working things out."

The other line was in completely silence making Ophelia feel guilty, sad and mad at herself.

"Ophelia... I know what you're thinking about. You don't have to feel any guilt or be mad at yourself."

"But how can I not feel guilty? I'm talking about my cousin's ex-fiancรฉe."

"Yes, but you haven't made anything wrong right now. Second, do you really think that they are trying to work everything out?" Kathy said making Ophelia pause and think.

"I mean. Last week, Sam was supposed to come to my house because we were gonna have dinner with the guys. He was taking long and I got worried so I walked to his house and Leah was there with him. He told me they were talking so I think that's a possibility."

"Yes but then why did he broke things off?" She paused, "I don't know it sounds kind of suspicious to me. Maybe she's jealous. You should talk to him instead of avoid him."

"Yeah. Maybe you're right." They continued talking more before Kathy had to go, promising to her that they would talk every day and visit each other.

Ophelia got out of the school and began walking to her thinking of what she should wear for her date. Well, she didn't know if she could or should called it date. But for Mark it seemed that it was.

Before going to her house, she decided to go to her parents house and make them a little visit. She smiled getting out of her car and smiled bigger when she saw Alison in the porch with them.

"Oh! Look at this gorgeous girl." Alison began smiling while standing up to greet Ophelia.

"Alison! I haven't seen you in like a week. That's too long. You should come to my house and have lunch with me one day."

"Oh! Honey, believe I'm definitely gonna take you up on that. Sam and the guys told me that you cook for them every day and they say that everything you make it's delicious." She complimented making her blush slightly.

"I love to have company with me. I don't like being alone for hours. So please, feel welcome to join me whenever you want. Now, I can't say for myself but if I'm being honest... I think that my food it's delicious too." She said joking making everyone laugh.

"Now, honey. How was your work?" John asked her daughter hugging her from the side making her smile.

"Awesome, the kids are learning very fast. I love teaching them."

"That's lovely." Estella smiled at her before narrowing her eyes, "Now, it's very rare that you come to our house directly after work. You always come a little late." Ophelia smiled tightly trying to hunk of how to tell them that she was busy.

"Well, I'm actually going out later."

"Where are you going?" Alison and Estella asked the girl making her blush hard.

"I have a dinner with a coworker. And I wanted to still come visit you. That's why I decided to come early."

"Well is it a female coworker?" John asked his daughter.

"Actually, its Dr. Kennings. He invited me to dinner, and I said yes he's gonna pick me up." She smiled slightly. Alison narrowed her eyes a little bit.

"Well, I hope you have a great time, dear."

"I hope too."

Alison went to her house and immediately called her son. It was now seven thirty pm.

"Mom?" Sam answered confused.

"Hey, honey. How are you doing?"

"Good? Mom it's weird that you're calling me at this time. You're supposed to be with the Ford's."

Alison tried to think of a way to incorporate Ophelia in the sentence. "Oh yes, I went a little early today. Guess who came to their house?"

"Who?"

"Well, obviously Ophelia." That picked Sam's interest but tried not to make any sound that could give him away.

"Oh, and how is she? What did she say?"

"She's lovely as always. Now, she's preparing for a date." Sam's heart sank. A date?

"A- a date? With who?"

"Oh. It's a doctor. Someone who works with her I think."

"Thats actually pretty good." He forced the words to come out of his mouth.

"I know. Well, I have to go. Have a good night, honey. I Love you."

"You too, mom. Love you too." Sam ended the call and immediately went to Ophelia's house.

He didn't know what to do and before he could he knocked on the door. This opened and the view of the other side made him stop in his tracks.

Ophelia was dressed in a deep blue dress that hung around her knees and some heels that made her look taller. She had her hair in natural waves and minimal makeup but with red lips. She looked ethereal to him. Like a goddess.

"Ophelia. You- you look beautiful." He started blinking making her blush profusely.

"Thanks, Sam. That's very kind of you." She tried to avoid eye contact with him. "I'm so sorry, but what are you doing here? Do you need something? Are you okay?"

"Yes, I'm okay. I just wanted to know how are you doing." He cleared his throat, "We haven't talked alone, just when the boys are around. Did- Did I do some that bothered you?"

Ophelia immediately began shaking her head no, "No, No you haven't made anything wrong."

"Then, what's happening? You are like avoiding me."

"Sam... I'm sorry-" She was cut off by a truck parking on her driveway and Mark getting out. He smiled at her and looked at Sam furrowing his brows slightly before walking towards her.

"Ophelia, you look beautiful." The same words that Sam uttered but didn't have the same effect in her.

"Thank you so much."

"Are you ready?" He smiled offering his arm making her nod.

"I'm sorry, Sam. We can talk tomorrow." She began walking with Mark but stopped and looked back at Sam. "I'm very happy that you're working things out with Leah. Good night."

Sam watched the girl he was in love with...go with another man. Before the last words that she said made him stop. 'I'm very happy that you're working things out with Leah.' That's when Sam knew. Leah told something to Ophelia that's why she wasn't talking to him.

He started getting angry and immediately took off running towards the woods shifting.
