With coffee in one hand and my scrubs in the other, I entered the intern changing rooms, wanting to find my interns in order to talk them through the rounds they have to do before getting to the real work. Changing rooms, like every morning, were crowded and while searching my way through the crowd I bumped into someone, raising my head to see who it was my eyes met Meredith's.

When noticing me she immediately tried to walk past me but I pulled her arm and stuffed us both in one of the corners of the changing rooms.

"Come on, Mer, you can't stay mad at me forever." I let out a frustrated sigh and watched her eyes staring coldly into mine.

"Watch me." she spat and tried to move away but I took hold of her arm once more, pulling her back. "You left me, Malia, come to terms with that first." she closed her eyes, being frustrated herself. "Plus, I thought you were mad at me."

"I am - but I know that you have a much better reason to be mad at me, that's why I'm putting my anger aside to give myself a chance to apologize to you," I explained only to have her expression change to confusion and surprise.

"Woah, Malia is apologizing, that's something I have to get a look at." Meredith scoffed, making me give her a serious look. "Look, can we just forget it, I have rounds and I'm sure you do too?" sighed Meredith but knew that there was no way she was getting rid of me that easily.

"I know I shouldn't have let you deal with our mother, but you saw how much it was killing me, how much she was killing me, I had to get away-" I continued on to apologizing only to be interrupted by Meredith who was starting to get angry.

"Don't you think it was killing me too?" she asked and waited for my reply only to get silent since I was too ashamed of myself, and didn't want to make matters worse. "That's why I left soon after you did and when I got back-" Meredith stopped herself from finishing, I raised an eyebrow at her.

"What is it, did something happen?" I questioned once I saw the worrying look Meredith was carrying.

"I don't - this is not the place for it." Meredith struggled to find words and that meant that something was definitely off, something had happened and I was not gonna stop until I knew what was it.

"Then that's great because I'll ask Dr. Bailey if you could be on my service today, don't think you're getting rid of me that easily, Grey." I pointed my finger at her and soon left to find Dr.Bailey. I knew that convincing someone by the nickname "Nazi" won't be easy but I had to try. I have never seen Meredith this uncomfortable, meaning that she was hiding something, something big.

"Dr. Bailey?" I found Miranda Bailey at the entrance hall in front of the hospital. From the looks of it, she was doing charts, hundreds of medical papers were splashed around the desk she was sitting at. "I'm Doctor-"

"Malia Grey, yes, I know who you are." Miranda was quick to stop my introduction. "Now, what do you want, I have a lot to catch up on and those idiot interns of mine are nowhere to be found," she stated, making eye contact with me before turning back to the charts.

"Then I'll get to the point." I smiled, my heart pounding in my chest at how quick she was to shut me up. "I was wondering if you could lend one of your interns to me, specifically Meredith Grey?" I was close to giving her my puppy eyes but I knew very well that that wouldn't phase the woman at all.

"No, your sister is my intern, I need her." Miranda disclosed and I sighed in defeat until a new idea came to mind. Bailey sensed it and moved away from her charts and started walking towards the stairs. "What is it, Grey?"

"I could maybe help out with the case you're working on?" I gave her my best smile and this time it was Bailey's turn to sigh in defeat as she nodded, making my smile grow even more.

"We've got a rape survivor, everybody!" one of the nurses called out. I reached for her chart only to shake my head. This poor girl, no one deserves what she just went thru, it was truly horrifying. What was even more surprising was the fact that she was still breathing, still holding out to life.

"People let's move, page Dr. Shepherd and Dr. Burke!" I yelled over the crowd of doctors that had gathered around and saw a nurse take out her pager. Closing the gurney gates we were off.

"Meredith, you should scrub in." I gave her a comforting smile once I saw how beaten up she looked while gazing at the rape survivor. Once the words left my mouth, however, her whole expression changed and her face lit up. "If anyone asks, I'm not playing favourites, I just need to check up on another patient for Derek," I assured her and started walking away only to have her follow.

"Since when is Dr. Shepherd the guy who's screwing my little sister Derek to you?" confused Meredith asked and I sensed a hint of jealousy in her voice, making my smirk grow wider.

"We're friends." is all I said and watched as she struggled, not knowing what to say. "Don't worry, he's not my type." I laughed only to have her give me a look.

"Oh, so you forgave him for taking advantage of me but you didn't forgive me?" Meredith narrowed her eyes at me.

"First, he did take advantage of you, second, who says I'm still mad at you?"I earned another look from her. "Alright, but it's not anger, it's more - disappointment."

"You're disappointed in me?" Meredith clarified and I nodded. "Well, I'm disappointed in you too." she didn't want to give up the fight so she spat at me the first and only thing that she could think of.

"I'm aware of that, and I'm just looking to earn your forgiveness, that's all." I smiled a little and took a right turn to the neurosurgery wing.

After checking on Derek and I's patient I decided to take my free time to watch the surgery of the rape victim, and when I got there, I wasn't the only one interested in seeing the surgery performed seeing as the whole OR gallery was filled with doctors from other specialties.

The surgery itself was going smoothly and Dr. Burke, who was the head of cardio, had found the problem so he quickly took out a piece of an organ, it was all bloody and sure as hell did not belong there. "What is this?" Burke called out and showed the small piece of an organ to everyone. "Does anyone know what this is?"

A sudden realization came to me and I looked over at Meredith who was already looking at me, knowing what it was that I had realized.

"Oh my God.." we both spoke in unison, gaining the attention of the whole medical team down in the OR and also everyone in the gallery.

"Spit it out, Greys'" ordered Burke who was still examining the organ closely, himself having no idea what he was looking at.

"She bit it off." Meredith's voice echoed and I was about to laugh in proudness. This small, fragile girl managed to bite off the guy's penis. "That's his - it's his penis." Meredith finally told and gasps quickly made their way through the gallery, that's when I lost it and left. I felt proud for the girl but I knew how inappropriate it would be to have me laughing for the whole medical team to hear.

I knew that this may seem childish but I always had a way with these sorts of things. Maybe that's what made me a good surgical doctor, I didn't attend to take things as seriously as they were, I would rather laugh than cry even if it was a life or death situation, it was just how I was built.

After calming myself down I was about to join back in the gallery but I saw Derek walking towards me, probably having seen me exit the OR, maybe thinking that I had been upset when in reality I've been here the whole time laughing.

I saw his worried face and it made me burst out laughing again. "I'm sorry." I apologized in between laughs, only to have him stare at me in surprise, not knowing how to react. "It's a force of habit, I'm alright." I placed a hand on his shoulder to assure him that everything was alright. Derek kept quiet, too stunned by my reaction to say anything.

"Where's Meredith?" I wondered, hoping that he could give me some intel.

"Malia, there's something you should know." Derek's serious face stayed on and he was looking at the ground, ashamed. "I kissed her."

"You what?" my laughs immediately stopped and I started to catch my breath.
"In the elevators." Derek continued. "I'm sorry, it just happened, you probably want to kill me right now but-" Derek, however, was cut off by my giggles.

"You kissed my sister - in the elevator?" I couldn't help it. Derek relaxed a bit after seeing me laugh. "Oh, I still wanna kill you but - an elevator, seriously?" I kept on laughing.

"Look, she jumped me." Derek defended, now chuckling a little himself.

"My little sister jumped you in a hospital elevator?" I couldn't believe the things I was hearing but good for Meredith. "Was it good?"

"I mean yeah - wait, is this a test?" Derek narrowed his eyes at me and I started to calm down but a smile still played on my lips.

"Yes, you failed." I stared coldly at him and I could almost feel him sweating, that's when I started laughing again. "Dude, I'm just messing with you." I patted him on the shoulder.

"Are you high?" he asked, laughing along with me.

"No, but if you are, give me a hit, will you?" I winked at him and he nodded, smiling at me.

"You are a weird person, Malia Grey." Derek was shaking his head, his smile still on.

"Thanks."
