I wrapped my arms around her before placing light kisses on her shoulder and making my way to her neck she giggles and then turned her attention back to the pancakes as she starts to flip one it breaks into pieces "shit!" She curses

I snorted trying to keep in my laugh, she looked at me "Shut up— I'm very good at making pancakes" she says, "oh really?" I asked sarcastically, "Yes! I just haven't made pancakes in a while" she says

"I believe you mami" I say, "you can stop being sarcastic" she says, "I'm not being sarcastic" I say, she open her mouth to say something when their was a knock on the door "I'll get it" she says leaving the kitchen to answer the door and coco followed her

I turned off the stove and threw away the broken pancake before putting the pan in the sink, "oh my god!" I hear Jo say. "What?!" I blurted out as I grabbed my gun and rushed towards the door, I opened the door wider to see Jo's mentor standing in front of me

He's face was bloody and his clothes were ripped up, "James!" Jo says pulling him inside the house and closing the door behind him, I put my gun away as they sat on the couch and I stood in front of them "what happened to you?" She asked

"Richard— my sister's boyfriend" he answered

"My niece called me again, she told me that he and her mom got into another fight— so I drove to their house to pick her and her brothers up, but when I knocked on the door Richard answered— he wouldn't let me in— and he started yelling at me and it woke up the baby and my sister started yelling at him— and he pushed her, and I punched him for putting his hands on her" he says

"He started beating me up— he told me if he sees me again— he'll kill me" he says

"so why are you here?" I asked making Jo and him look at me "Richard is crazy— he's out of his mind when he's drunk— which is all the time, but he knows where I live, where I work and where my mom lives, I had no where to go" he says

"I'll be right back" Jo says standing up and walking into the back leaving me with him, I looked at him as he avoids looking back at me, "jo has a big heart— she would want to help you through your shit— but you should already know how that would end for her, you a grown man— you have to fight your own battles" I say before walking away

I just changed from my shorts into leggings I walk out the room to see Oscar, he kisses my head "I'm going out for a smoke" he says before leaving through the side door in the kitchen, I walked back into the living room "c'mon James— let's clean you up" I say

He followed me into the bathroom, he sat on the toilet while I cleaned the blood off his face, "is that a switchblade— on the back of your neck?" He asked, "yeah" I nod

"I didn't know you had a tattoo—why'd you get it?" he asked, "when I was 15 my brother died— and he had a switchblade that our dad gave him, when he passed away my dad sold all of his stuff— I don't know why I think because he couldn't take looking at it anymore, so all I had left was his switchblade, I carried that switchblade everywhere I went, I was 18 when my dad went to prison— my dad was in gang— so when he left all of his friends looked after me until they decided it was it time for me to join—" I say

"I tricked into being jumped in— my now ex boyfriend—he managed to get them to stop, he took me home— I was crying nonstop and my body was aching all over, I remember I wouldn't let him go I was so terrified— he kept whispering that it'll be alright, it'll be over before i know it— then I noticed he was trying to remove my clothes" I say

"I pushed him away from me— I asked him what he was doing, he said it has to happen, I fought him— I kept fighting to get away from him but kept overpowering me, I somehow managed to get the switchblade and I stabbed him in his chest and I ran and I never looked back— a couple weeks later I got enough money for a haircut and the tattoo" I say

"you lost the switchblade— the only thing you had left of your brother, so you got another one that wouldn't get lost" he says

"Yeah— I'm sorry I shouldn't have tell you all that" I apologize, "it's okay jo— it's my job to listen to you—I have a tattoo too" he says as he took off his shirt to show me his tattoo of a hawk on his chest, "what does it mean?" I asked

"my dad had cancer— and he was a zoologist, I had a picture of us where he held a hawk in his hand and my sister and I stood next to him— my dad had four days to live and my childhood home burned down that picture burned with it, all he wanted was to look at that picture before he left us, so I got a hawk tattooed on me— I went to the hospital to show him— my mom hated it but my dad loved it— he said was really cool" he smiled

"I'm sorry for your lost" I say

"thanks" he says before putting his shirt back on
