CHAPTER THIRTEEN

I woke up to my soft, dreamy, warm blankets being pulled off me at the crack of dawn. May stood behind Alessandro, half asleep, clutching a large metal pale of water.

"Get up." Was all he said in a low voice, tossing my blankets to the end of my bed.

"But- It's-" Before I could complain further, he pulled me by my arm out of bed.

He tossed me a rag and nodded for me to follow him. I groaned, following behind them down the stairs to the second lounge. I cringed at how cold the marble floors were.

May set the pale down with a thud.

"Why did I have to carry the pale down those stupid stairs." She whined, falling backwards onto the couch.

"Get up, you girls are going to scrub the floor, you have until 5:30 am to finish. Then I will give you another room to clean." He explained tossing May a rag.

"And if we don't finish then what?" She asked, crossing her arms over her chest.

"Then I'll make both of you clean every f*cking inch of this house with a toothbrush." He replied, glaring at her.

I wouldn't doubt it.

Her eyes widened, and she began dipping the rag into the bucket of soapy water.

"I'm going to make a coffee I'll check on you girls later." He muttered as he turned around and left the room.

As soon as he left, she threw the rag at me and laid onto the couch.

I furrowed my brows, and tossed the rag back at her, she didn't expect me to clean this whole room by myself, did she?

"Uhm no. I'm going back to bed you can clean you made this mess you fix it." She smirked, throwing the rag back at me. She reached for the TV remote and began flicking through different shows.

"What!? You're the one who agreed to come! You're going to get us in so much trouble if he sees you watching TV dumbass. He's going to make us clean the whole house if we don't finish in time!" I quietly yelled at her, making sure he couldn't hear us.

She rolled her eyes, "Better get cleaning then, this room is pretty dirty."

I shook my head at how stupid she was and began scrubbing the floor. My eyes wandered around the large room until they met with a door, a very important door, the door to the basement, the one I was forbidden to go near.

I walked over to where the tall door stood, the word 'Capo' was engraved onto a gold plaque over it, whatever that meant. I glanced back at May; she was cuddled up on to the couch with a blanket and watching a show. I bit my lip before turning the old white doorknob.

I began walking down the steep stairs each one creaked as I did so, a long hallway greeted me at the bottom. There were millions of large portraits hung on the walls, they seemed to be of important people. I ran my finger against the gold frame, dust covered my trembling hands. These portraits were old, and rarely cleaned it seems, they all had dates and names at the bottom. At the end of the hallway a large double door stood. A keypad with numbers was next to it, sh*t I needed a code. My heartbeat raced, what was behind these doors? It couldn't be an office all of my brothers had an office upstairs. What was so important that sat behind these doors? I heard footsteps from upstairs, I bolted up the creaky steps and shut the door behind me.

Sweat trickled down my forehead, I grabbed one of the wet rags with my shaking hands and pretended to clean the floor.

Of course, when Alessandro walked in to check on us May was pretending to help too.

He took a seat on the couch with the coffee mug in his hand.

"Almost done I take it?" He asked raising his eyebrows.

"Yup! Then we can go back to bed, right?" May asked, putting on a fake smile.

"Nope, next you're going to clean the pool." He said calmly taking a sip from his mug.

"What!? That's the cleaner's job, you can't make me do that!" She huffed, crossing her arms.

I rolled my eyes at her; how could one be so whiny at this time in the morning.

He stood up from the couch, "Come on, the pool isn't going to clean itself."

I followed them out to the back door; the same type of keypad was next to it. I watched as he quickly typed the 7 digits, he did it fast but not fast enough for me not to catch the digits, 46725#%.

Those numbers raced in my mind, over and over again.

Gosh why do these men feel so entitled to be so secretive? Like don't make it so obvious and maybe I wouldn't care.

I watched as his lanky figure went into the garage and pulled out the pool vacuum, some chemicals and some nets.

"Here this is all the stuff you will need." He said placing everything beside the pool.

"Aren't you going to tell us how to use it?" I asked him.

"You can read the instructions; you can take a break and eat breakfast when you're done." Was all he said, as he walked back indoors.

"Ugh, I hate reading." She grumbled, picking up the vacuum box.

Then why the hell do you have a full ass library in your room?

I glanced back at the basketball court, Daimien was playing basketball with one of his friends.

"You can get in the pool and vacuum it." She said, tossing the box to the side and handing me the vacuum.

"Absolutely not, I can barely swim, besides your always wanting to go to the beach so why don't you get it in." I grumbled.

She rolled her eyes, "To tan! Nobody actually goes swimming at beach besides you could use the exercise." She snickered looking me up and down.

"I don't care I'm not getting in that pool." I said firmly.

"Well neither am I." She huffed.

"How about you both go in the pool." A familiar daunting voice laughed, Daimien.

Before we knew it, we were both in the pool.

She gasped, "Oh my god, what the h*ll is wrong with you!"

A smirk formed onto his sweaty face, "That's what you get for scratching and denting my car you b*tches."

I gripped onto the side of the pool so hard that my fingers turned white. I pulled myself up from the cold slimy water.

I tossed the vacuum to May, "Looks like your still in the pool so you can clean it." I grinned. "I'll get the net and clean with that." I said picking it up.

She glared at me in which I returned. She started vacuuming the pool. She actually did something useful for once.

After a few hours of cleaning the pool, we were finally finished. I still couldn't get those numbers out of my head, I really hope that's the code for the basement door, I'm desperate to know what lays behind them.

"I swear if Alessandro makes me do one more thing, I'm going to kill him." She cried, shuffling over to the door, in her drenched clothes.

Yeah, I'd love to see that.

Matilda came rushing over with two towels and opened the door. May ripped one of the towels out of her hand and rushed inside the house.

My eyes widened; I can't believe how spoiled and rude she is.

"Thank you, Matilda." I smiled gratefully, as she handed me a towel.

"Hurry get inside you poor thing your clothes are soaked!" Her voice was laced with concern, motioning for me to come in.

I quickly went into the bathroom with a dry, clean pair of clothes. It was only 10 am and I was already drained and ready to go to bed. I sighed putting on a pair of dry pants, I just had one problem on my hands, how would I get into the basement without him or anyone else knowing? They're like a bunch of hawks.

I made my way down to the dining room; all my brothers were seated. I took a seat next to Enzo, May sat across from me, she was wrapped in a blanket and had a big scowl on her face.

Soon enough Matilda came out with our food.

It was waffles with berries and hot chocolate. My mouth watered at the meal, I loved waffles though I've only had them a few times, they were amazing.

I thanked Matilda before taking a large bite; they were just as good as I remembered. As good as they were, after I ate half of one of the waffles, I became sickly full. I had a few sips some of the hot chocolate before standing up to go rinse my plate, but Alessandro stopped me.

"Chiara, sit down. You've hardly ate anything I want you to finish at least one of your waffles." He said sternly.

Everyone's eyes were on mine.

"I can't I'm full."

"You're going to have a few more bites at least."

"Alessandro, I said I can't, I'm full."

May rolled her eyes, "Attention seeking wh*re." She muttered under her breath, earning her a glare from Enzo and Alessandro.

"You're not leaving this table until you've had a few bites, now sit down."

I shake my head in disbelief, he was more concerned what I ate rather than what she just called me. But if I were to stick up for myself, I'd be in my room, most likely with cameras because that's how insane they are.

"No, I'm going to my room." I said staring back at him.

His eyes darkened and he looked like he was about to argue with me again but just nodded, "Fine, but don't come running to me saying you're hungry." He said clearly annoyed with me.

I pushed in my chair and exited the dining room, as I was about to turn and head up to my room the second lounge came into view. I looked back to make sure none of my brothers decided to come follow me or if there were any maids or butlers and I made my way into the lounge.
