Chapter 39

We laid the girl down on the bed in the wooden cabin, and let Skylar do her magic. She waved her hands in the face of the girl and closed her eyes, focusing. She told us not to make a sound, so we all stood silent, watching and it was irritating me. I wasn't used to having absolutely no noise in the room.

I started tapping my foot to the floor, but Theo poked my shoulder. I turned to face him. He shook his head, ordering me to stop.

After about what seemed like an hour (which was apparently five minutes according to Theo), Skylar turned to us.

"She has been through so many Realms, including Aspenbarrow, the Punishment, and the Cursed Lands. She had been lost, going from door to door. After the Guide Book failed her a couple of times, she never trusted it again, but she didn't let it out of her sight. Her age is fourteen, and her name is Dawn. Also, I removed some of her memories which kind of made her... ya know..." Skylar circled her index finger next to her ear, giving us the word she meant clearly: crazy.

"She should be back to her normal self now, as in before she went..." Skylar's voice drifted off, and she sighed. "But now I'm really exhausted."

Mia threw down her backpack and pulled our a huge glass. She stared at it intently for a while, and it filled up with green juice.

"Whoa," Theo said in awe. "How do you do that?"

"I don't do anything. The glass fills on its own."

She handed the cup to Skylar. Skylar drank all of it in one gulp and handed the glass back to Mia, who threw it back into her backpack.

"So, now we wait for her to wake up?" I asked, and pointed at Dawn.

"Yeah, I guess so," Skylar replied.

So we waited.

The four of us: Skylar, Mia, Theo and I, walked outside and all of us started doing different things. I was practicing with the wind.

I concentrated on the air around me, but this time instead of releasing the air, I thought maybe I could do it the other way around. I looked around for some sort of leaves or twigs and found a pile of dead, orange leaves.

I focused. I looked at the leaves and stuck out my right hand. I imagined the wind between us approach my hand in a sort of cone way, like a tornado. I closed my eyes and tried pulling the pile of leaves towards my hand.

It didn't work.

I sighed and sat on the ground. Even though I didn't do anything that wasted my power, I still felt tired.

Skylar, Theo, and Mia had gathered in a group, talking, so I walked towards them.

"I'm Skylar, daughter of Ariel," Skylar told Mia.

Theo introduced himself as well.

"I'm Mia, and I'm the daughter of Cetus, Hero of Dragone Island, fifteen years old-"

"Okay," Theo cut her off. "We don't need to hear a story."

Then all three of them looked at me.

"Oh, um... Leon, wind user," I quickly told Mia.

"Son of Aeon?" she asked.

I nodded.

"Do you have the...?" she pointed at her heart.

I nodded again.

"Can you...?"

"No, it hurts a lot, and it exhausts me," I replied.

"I think you all should eat something before you leave!" Cetus called from the wooden cabin.

My stomach grumbled in response.

After about an hour (and this time it was actually an hour) Dawn woke up, just as we finished eating.

"Where am I?" she looked around. "Who are you?"

She started to panic, taking short but quick breaths.

"Hey, calm down. We're here to help you on your mission," Skylar relieved her. "We're also lost Heroes."

"The Guide Book..." she looked at the bed and around the room.

"Oh, that's kind of gone..." I replied.

"Where is it?!" the girl started freaking out again. Man, she was panicky.

"Look," I told her. "We'll help you get out, but you have to do something for us, too."

Dawn narrowed her eyes. "What?"

"We're on a mission to stop the Cursed from taking over every single Realm. And we're asking you to join us."

She looked at each of us carefully.

"If we can't?" she asked.

"Then we all die trying, and every Realm gets cursed."

"Sounds like a plan," she stood up with the help of Skylar. "But first, I need to eat."

Freaking finally, everybody got together and we stood where the army had entered Dragone Island.

Cetus was waiting for us to leave, just calmly watching from behind.

"Wait a minute," I turned and faced Cetus. "Why can't you send your monsters to help?"

Cetus chuckled. "I don't control them. If they go in, they'll just crush everything in their path... or won't. They might just go in, not like the place and come back out."

"But how did you tell them to fight the incoming army?" I asked.

"I didn't tell them to fight. I just said we're being invaded, and since they didn't want their home to be destroyed, they defended. But going through a gateway and risking their lives, they would rather prefer eating trees or swimming," Cetus explained.

It was kind of stupid, but I didn't object further.

I looked at my friends again.

Dawn was shaking, maybe out of fear or she was cold, I couldn't tell. Theo looked ready, just facing in front of us, almost showing absolutely no emotion. Skylar was next to me, and when I looked at her face, I could see she was scared, but she was trying not to show it. I saw in her eyes, her fear.

Mia, on the other hand, looked like we were about to enter a bouncy castle as little kids. She was smiling, just facing in front of her, absolutely ready to do the mission.

And I was scared out of my mind. We were about to enter the enemy territory, with two new friends, which we've only known for about... what? Roughly two hours. My two old friends we here, but two of my other old friends were gone, along with my sister, giving me a feeling of sorrow. But we had to do this for them.

I looked at the group one more time.

"You guys ready?" I asked.

Nobody shook their heads or nodded.

"Then let's go!" I yelled, and with that, we all took a step forward, and the world changed around us.
