The atmosphere in Molly's was lively and full of chatter as Maddie continued to listen on Sylvie's re-telling of their close call.

Sylvie's eyes were bright and her voice dripped with pride of her CFD family as she spoke. "──so, they're hosing the warehouse down and we think: Gabby, Severide, and the Chief are probably toast by now! But then, Chief comes stumbling out of the flames followed by Gabby and this meathead over here."

She turned to her husband, who was seated beside her, and narrowed her eyes at him. Her fingers pinched his forearm lightly, "We need to have a discussion about what staying safe means, meathead."

Kelly could only chuckle as his hand rested on her thigh. "Hey, we do have discussions but then we always end up──"

"Dont!" Cried Sylvie, Otis, and Mouch from across the couple. The trio already knew that it would be something concerning what they did in the bedroom and honestly didn't want to hear it.

"You two are always going at it like rabbits." Otis grumbled.

Maddie quirked an eyebrow and leaned forward, "What? Disappointed you won't be getting your money with the bet on how long we'll last, Otis?"

"That's a bet I did not partake in by the way." Sylvie reminded and flashed a smile.

Otis rolled his eyes. "No──well, yes maybe a little. But, you and Severide are always cuddled up and kissing whenever you come by the firehouse or just here in Molly's. And, when you two are not touching each other, you have these gooey looks in your eyes. It makes me want to barf."

"Otis, you can't hold it against me if I want to kiss my wife all the time."

The table erupted in laughter, heads thrown back and cheeks hurting.

A vibration from her pocket jolted Maddie up from her seat. She saw that it was Brianna calling and excused herself from the table to take the call outside since Molly's was being a bit too loud with Sylvie on her tail. The cold Chicago wind nipped as the two girls stepped out.

Sylvie had waited a few feet away from the bar's entrance as Maddie took the call.

"No, Bri, I don't think you should ask me if you have a gout. Maybe see a doctor or something? Okay. Bye. See you at work."

"Is Bri okay?" Sylie asked once Maddie pocketed her cellphone.

"Yeah, she's fine. She keeps telling me and JJ that she might have a gout in her leg.

"Oh. . ."

"Everything okay, Sylvia?"

"Uh. . .yeah. Look, Maddie, something happened at your birthday party."

A laugh cuts through the night, the figure stumbling towards the two women. Maddie instantly stood in front of the blonde paramedic, concerned for their safety. She squinted her eyes to get a better look at the approaching man and recognized his face.

"Scott?" Unsure, she continued. "Are you okay? I heard about──"

Scott Rice now stood in front of them, chest heaving and breath reeking of alcohol. "Yes! We all know what the great Lieutenant Kelly Severide did!" He threw the beer bottle to the ground and grabbed Maddie by the shoulders. His hands were cold and blue eyes were full of hate. Not to mention his snarling mouth generated an odor that made Maddie want to vomit.

Sylvie moved forward and yelled, "Hey! What the hell are you doing?!" With a rough push from Scott's arm, she was sent tumbling to the ground.

His hands found Maddie again and he brought his face closer to hers. "You know what I don't get?"

"I don't know, Scott." She sneered, struggling under his grasp. "I guess you don't comprehend a lot of things, do you?"

He tightened his grip, snarling at her. "You brainwashed my friend! You told Kelly to kick me out! I don't even buy that you're some architect or painter! Seeing that he met you at Vegas, you must be some kind of stripper." Scott smirked and leaned in, "So, why don't you give me a kiss, baby doll?"

"Ugh! No! Get off of me, you drunk!"

"Come on. I bet the guys at 51 enjoy the shows you put on for them."

Unknown to the former Rescue Squad member, Sylvie had crawled her way to his discarded bottle and smashed it to his head. Scott lost his grip on Maddie and stumbled back. Sylvie's hands immediately went for her best friend's and she pulled them further away.

"Nice work with the beer bottle." Maddie told her friend, her voice low.

"Thanks."

Her heart was thumping erratically in her chest. The part of her brain where common sense was stored told Maddie to run back inside the bar with Sylvie on her tail. Unfortunately, her legs were too slow to act on it and she felt glued to the pavement.

Scott came barrelling towards them, face flushed with fury. "You little whore!"

It all happened so quickly: Scott charging towards them, Sylvie screaming from behind her, and Maddie falling on her back with a hard thump due to Scott's body hovering over her.

Shit. Shit. Shit.

Fuck.

Maddie's brain quickly switched into panic mode and her screams pierced through the night. His hands gripped her wrist firmly and his face held a disgusting smirk. She grunted and grunted and tried her best to at least land a kick but Maddie was physically too weak compared to a firefighter.

Fortunately, he was roughly shoved off by a hand gripping his collar. Otis' face appeared in Maddie's vision right next to Sylvie's. To Maddie, she felt like she was underwater as their muffled voices clashed and she struggled to breathe. She barely registered Otis helping her to her feet and Sylvie asking if she was okay.

It was odd how she could barely hear what Otis and Sylvie were saying, but she could distinctly make out the words the two men were yelling. Maddie peered over Otis' should to see that Kelly──nostrils flaring and his jaw clenched──had his had a death grip on Scott's shirt.

"What the fuck, Rice?!"

"I was just messing around with your whore wife."

"You don't hurt a single hair on Maddie's head! Don't you ever come near my family again."

"Family? How can you make a family with that bi──"

Maddie saw her husband raise his hand, ready to land a punch on his friend's face. She observed how Kelly's eyes simmered with rage and murder──a great dissimilarity from the kindness and love she often saw in them.

Maddie felt hands──Sylvie's──smoothen her clothes. When her friend's hands reached her blouse, right around her abdomen, Maddie froze and she remembered why she was cursing so much when she fell to the ground.

"Kelly." Maddie croaked out, "Kelly, please."

She must have looked like a hot mess at the moment: tears brimming in her brown eyes, quivering lips, and trembling hands by her side.

His head turned and Scott Rice was forgotten in a heartbeat with Cruz and Otis holding the guy down. Kelly reached her in long strides, lowering his head to speak with her.

He met her eyes and whispered with urgency, "Tell me what's wrong, baby."

"We──we need to──hospital."

Kelly immediately led her to the car and bid their friends a quick goodbye with a promise that they'll talk about it tomorrow morning. Seeing Sylvie's concern and worry splayed out on her features was horrible and seeing their 51 family dumbfounded by what happened hurt the couple even more.

But, Baby Severide must remain classified.

Top-secret.

Confidential.

. . .if there was even a Baby Severide left.
