Kelly thought they were going to burst through a bar and find Nigel and Jill already downing some shots.

It turns outs that Maddie's idea of "drinks" meant buying a six-pack of Budweiser. As soon as they exited the liquor store, Maddie had already drowned half of her first bottle.

"Maddie. . ." Kelly chimes as they settle on a park bench after walking the streets of Miami hand in hand for thirty minutes. "Don't you want to go back to our hotel? So you can rest?"

Her response was a groan and a child-like pout appearing on her lips. She leans towards her husband and lands her forehead on his chest. It stays there as she remarks, "Kelly, stop being such a dad."

With a chuckle, Kelly remembers that she was a lightweight. It was very evident on the night that they had first met. Maddie was on her sixth shot of tequila that night and she already felt hot and heavy as they continued their drinking game. She was on her second bottle of Budweiser and was slurring her words.

"Okay, okay." He says, running his hands on her back comfortingly. "You and alcohol are best friends, huh?"

Maddie jolts from her position and looks up at him. She had a Cheshire cat smile on face. "Yes, we are! She's the only person that makes me honest!"

A tired sigh emits from Maddie's mouth as she re-positions her body. Her head now rests on his shoulder as Kelly's arm lays on the back of the bench while Maddie runs her hands up and down the three sizes too big blazer.

Maddie felt like she was on top of the world. Tonight, she felt like she had won the lottery despite almost dying inside an elevator because of a crazy arsonist. She didn't know if it was because of the alcohol or because of the moment she and Kelly had over dinner but she felt bubbly crazy.

"Hey!" Maddie beams, "You know what we should do right now?"

"I can see the wheels turning in your brain, babes."

"We should play that game we played in Vegas!" Drunk Maddie tends to repeat a lot of words and it seemed like she was always screaming. "One of us asks a question then the other answers and then the person who asked the question drinks his beer. It's like. . .truth or drink!"

He feels a smile forming on his lips as Kelly is transported back to that night by the bar—the night where it had all began. He doesn't register Maddie speaking until she's poking his cheek.

"Hello? Earth to Kelly!" Maddie says, "And you say I'm the lightweight."

Kelly apologizes. "Sorry, Mads. Did you start the game already?"

"Yes! I asked if you meant all those things you sad back in the restaurant."

" 'Course I do."

"Okay!" Maddie takes a few gulps as of her beer.

It was Kelly's turn to ask her a question. "Why. . .why do you shut me out?"

Maddie taps her finger on her chin a few times, a thoughtful expression on her face. "Hm. . .I guess I just never had someone who genuinely cared about my well-being. Whenever I was sick, Mama only wanted me to get better so I can be up and running the business again." She takes a few more sips of her beer even if those weren't the rules of the games, "I was also pretty used to dealing with problems on my own. I know it's no excuse but I'm sorry, Kelly."

It seemed like Maddie had sobered up in a span of a few minutes.

"Adrian Gish was a dick." Maddie scowls, "I hate him. He--" Her voice breaks just a little; it's enough for her to keep talking. "He made me so scared, Kelly. I'm glad he's dead. Does this--does this mean I'm a horrible person?"

Hot tears fall from her cheeks. Kelly didn't blame her. This was the first time she was opening up about the incident. "Maddie, baby."

They probably looked so questionable: two people sitting on a park bench as one engulfed the other in his arms while the other cried her eyes out as cars and people passed them by. Not to mention it was already close to midnight. But, Kelly didn't care. His wife needed him and he was going to be there for her.

"No, you're not a horrible person." Kelly's thumbs were wiping the tears falling on her cheeks, "He did bad things, Maddie. He killed my best friend."

Apparently, drunk Maddie was also an emotional rollercoaster.

"Still!" Maddie wailed out, "I ignored you. I'm such a bad, bad spouse."

Kelly shakes his head. "Hey, you are not." He stops to take a deep breath, "I'm sorry too, Maddie."

Maddie scrunches her eyebrows together as she tries to find the interpretation behind his apology. "Wha--you are literally the type of husband every woman dreams of, Kelly. Hard-working, doesn't mind doing the dishes, good in be--"

"I didn't mean it back at the hotel room. I just thought that if we didn't get married and I didn't drag you to Chicago then you wouldn't be involved in my mess."

It was Maddie's turn to cradle her husband's face. "Hey, I wanted to be dragged the hell away from Miami."

"Why though?" It seemed like the drinking game was long forgotten. "It seemed like you had a life here."

Maddie now sits straight, her back colliding with the bench. "I didn't want to be run the family business, Kelly. It's sooo boring! Like I just tell people what to do or what to build then I'm done for the day."

Never was Kelly filled with so much love and admiration for a girl. Yet, here he was: spending his Saturday nights with a rose-colored girl who had a low tolerance for alcohol.

Bumping his shoulder with Maddie's, he confesses to her sincerely. "I'm glad I married you, Maddie Cojuangco."

Her mouth curves into a smile as she replies. "Ditto, Kelly Severide."
