27 : wait for you

Hwayoung found herself in walls of whiteness.

There were many voices everywhere...

Why is it so noisy?

She then forced her eyes to open up and she was met with...

J- Jake?

"CALL FOR THE DOCTOR! THE PATIENT IS UP!"
Jake raised his voice at a nurse that was standing next to him and she hastily went to look for the doctor.

"Jake? Why are you-"

Before Hwayoung was able to continue saying anything, the doctor came over to check on her.

"She's fine now. She will just need to rest for a day and she can be discharged tomorrow. Now, can you please excuse me? I have even more important matters to attend to. For example, the one who was caught up in the same accident as you."
The doctor hurriedly rushed to the emergency room.

"Jake... What happened?"
Hwayoung stuttered as Jake helped her to sit upright.

"You passed out from the sudden shock."
Jake replied with a soft tone.

"Why are you even here? Aren't you supposed to be in Australia-"

"EO HWAYOUNG, GET YOUR SENSES TOGETHER! HOW CAN I STILL BE IN AUSTRALIA WHEN YOU AND JUNGWON ARE-"
Jake paused and looked away nervously.

"Jungwon?"
Hwayoung furrowed her eyebrows.

"What..."

And that was when memories from just now flooded back into her mind.

"JUNGWON!"
Hwayoung exclaimed as she quickly got off from her bed and ran to where the doctor hurried to.

Jungwon, you must be alright, please...

She was then stopped by many nurses, preventing her from entering the ER.

"Miss, please do cooperate with us. Our doctors and surgeons are trying our very best to save him."
One of the nurses raised her voice at Hwayoung.

"Please... Jungwon..."
Hwayoung fell to the ground hopelessly.

"Hwayoung, please don't be like this. Jungwon would not want to see you in this state."
Jake pleaded and helped Hwayoung up, placing her on a seat.

"How long has it been?"
Hwayoung asked while she stared at the ground.

"3 hours and sixteen minutes."
Jake muttered and inhaled deeply.

Just then, the doctor came out from the ER.

Hwayoung's eyes immediately lit up and she ran to the doctor.

"How's he?"
Hwayoung asked apprehensively as she hoped for some good news from the doctor.

"He's in a coma for now. He can't use any of his five senses other than hearing. He had lost a lot of blood from the accident just now. We helped him with all his wounds and all. But, we cannot guarantee anything for now."
The doctor lowered his head down and explained to Hwayoung.

"Can I go see him, right now?"
Hwayoung pleaded and the doctor nodded his head.

To be honest, Hwayoung was so worried to the point that she was not even able to understand what the doctor just told her.

She just needed to see him right now...

Hwayoung rushed into the ER, seeing the weak Jungwon lying lifelessly on the hospital bed.

He was filled with bandages everywhere.

"Jungwon... Why..."
Hwayoung did not even try to hold in her tears anymore.

She just let them stream down her cheeks.

"Sihyo is unable to come over because her grandmother in America passed on. And, the police have already arrested the driver in the van for drunk driving. I'm leaving first."
Jake's voice shook a little and he quickly left the room.

"Jungwon, you can hear me, right? I have so much to tell you. I regret not having the fucking guts to tell you earlier. I'm so sorry... I loved you so much, way more than ever..."
Hwayoung cried as she held onto Jungwon's hands tightly, praying for him to wake up.

"I love you so much..."
Hwayoung cried out.

"Jungwon, thanks for your flowers. It was really sweet of you."
Hwayoung looked at the stained yellow dandelions on the table next to Jungwon.

"There isn't school tomorrow so, I can accompany you for the entire day tomorrow!"

"Don't worry, Jungwon! I believe in you! I will always wait for you no matter what! But, that does not mean that you can sleep longer! You have to wake up earlier, okay?"
Hwayoung talked to Jungwon for almost the whole day already.

"I will make sure to come by everyday after school or if I can, I will stay with you for the whole day! You can hear me, right? You see, I'm putting in efforts for you so, you better put in some for me too, okay?"
Hwayoung waited for a response but, Jungwon did not wake up, it was just silence until a nurse came in.

"Miss, do you need some water?"
The kind nurse came by and handed a glass of water to Hwayoung.

"Thank you so much..."

"Nurse Sunoo."
Hwayoung read out his name tag.

"Drop the formalities. Just call me Sunoo! Will always be at your service!" Sunoo cheered her up with his eye-catching healing smile.

"Alright, Sunoo! Just call me Hwayoung!"
Hwayoung politely smiled back at him and her eyes started to become droopy.

"Hwayoung, you seem to be getting tired out. Take this pillow and blanket. It would keep you warm and cozy!"
Sunoo took out from underneath Jungwon's bed.

"Thank you so much, you're so nice..." Hwayoung sniffed and turned to look at Jungwon again.

"Sunoo ah, when do you think he will wake up?"
Hwayoung suddenly asked, which made the nurse startled slightly.

"I'm not sure about that already. All I can say is just to hope for the best for him."
Sunoo sighed and looked at Jungwon.

Hwayoung then sadly nodded her head as Sunoo took his leave.

Sunoo peaked again from outside of the door and noticed Hwayoung never taking her hands off his.

"Such a lovely couple..."
He let out and left.
