26 : dandelions

"Hwayoung is going to love this so much!"
Jungwon smiled to himself as he admired the decorations hung up nicely around the cafe and the desserts platter on the table.

"She likes cat cafes, I just know it so well!"
He beamed with excitement.

"Forty-five more minutes before she arrives."
He read his clock on his wrist as he patted one of the grey cats in the cafe.

Based on daily experiences, Hwayoung was always a very punctual person and was never late once before.

"She will be on time! Get yourself together, Yang Jungwon!"
He cheered himself up.

"Young man, I will be leaving the rest to you?"
The owner of the cafe asked.

"Sure! Don't worry, I won't cause any problems for you."
Jungwon reassured and the owner gave a happy nod.

"Good luck! Make sure to visit here often when you and your girlfriend get together!"
The supportive owner encouraged him and he left the shop.

"Last check! Did I miss anything?" Jungwon looked around, counting the number of decorations just to make sure that everything was going to be perfect.

Ding!

Jungwon's phone rang and he took out his phone to check the notification from Hwayoung.

My little dandelion 💞
I'm not coming over today, I have an appointment with someone.

Alright!

"Oh right! I forgot to buy flowers!" Jungwon recalled from the sight of Hwayoung's saved contact name and sighed at his carelessness.

"Fortunately, there's a flower shop nearby, if not I'm dead!"
He muttered to himself and brought his wallet along with him.

"Freak, there's a long queue?"
Jungwon hissed and reluctantly waited for his turn.

"Hwayoung ah, Jungwon did not invite me to anything..."
Sihyo sighed through the phone call.

"Aish... Maybe he just forgot about it, don't worry too much, okay?"
Hwayoung tried to comfort her.

"I got-"
Hwayoung heard Sihyo paused for a moment.

There was another male voice who sounded like her father murmuring something...

Suddenly, a very audible loud gasp came from Sihyo and Hwayoung heard a loud thud.

"Hello? Sihyo?"
Hwayoung repeatedly called out but, Sihyo did not respond.

"Hello? Sihyo?"

"Sihyo?"

Unexpectedly, the phone call ended.

Hwayoung worriedly called her back but, Sihyo did not pick up her phone at all.

"Never mind."
Hwayoung exhaled and was about to place her phone in her pocket until she saw the time.

2.55 pm...

"What did I forget- OH SHIT! I NEED TO GET OUT OF THE HOUSE RIGHT NOW!"
She hopped out of her bed and quickly got ready to go out.

To her, punctuality was super important, so she can never forgive herself to be late for anything.

"No one's here?"
Hwayoung panted as soon as she entered the cafe and was greeted by several cats.

"OH MY GOD, Y'ALL ARE SO CUTE!" Hwayoung squealed and squatted down to pat every cats' head as a sign of acknowledging their presence.

She then got up to look around the cafe.

The walls were painted ivory which matched with the black coloured chairs, giving Hwayoung a minimalist vibe.

Many chandeliers were hanging above every table, paintings hung on walls and there was a big glass window which was facing the entrance of the famous flower store in Seoul.

Yesterday, Jake told her that someone would be holding a bouquet of yellow dandelions, waiting for her.

However, Hwayoung looked around multiple times and there was still no one there.

Maybe, I was too early...

"I guess I'm supposed to wait then." Hwayoung shrugged her shoulders and decided to walk around the cafe for a little while more.

"Paintings of dandelions? Wow... This one is so pretty!"
She admired one of the canvas, feeling the texture of the dried paint with her finger.

"It would fit the mood if I play this song on loop too!"
Hwayoung then took out her earbuds and played her favourite song on loop.

"How beautiful..."
Her eyes twinkled at the bright chandelier lights.

At that moment, Jungwon just exited the flower store with a bouquet of yellow dandelions in his hand.

"They smell perfect!"
He muttered and looked inside the cafe and recognised Hwayoung just by the side profile of her face.

He stopped in his tracks just to admire her just for that few seconds.

How could one look so attractive...

"Jungwon, just one more road to cross and you will be with her! You can do this!"
Jungwon tried to keep himself confident.

He was extremely nervous yet excited at the same time.

He then inhaled deeply and took a step forward.

His eyes never left Hwayoung...

"YOUNG MAN, WATCH OUT!"
Someone shrieked from behind.

Jungwon instantly turned his head around and noticed a car speeding towards him.

*BBEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEPP*

His life flashed right before his eyes as he stood rooted to the ground.

*BANG*

"OH MY GOD!"
Hwayoung got alarmed by the sudden loud noises coming from outside.

She looked outside the big glass window and ran outside through the back door of the cafe.

"An accident?!"
She gasped when she saw a huge crowd surrounding a van and a body.

Out of curiosity, Hwayoung pushed herself through the crowd to look at the body and it was...

J- Jungwon?

He was still holding onto the bouquet of dandelions tightly but now, the dandelions were stained with his blood.

His forehead was oozing out huge amounts of blood and many glass shards cut into his skin, creating deep crimson red wounds.

There was one sharp glass shard that slit his throat.

He was the one?

She just stared with wide-open eyes that cannot shut as if the whole world was breaking apart around her.

She just could not breathe at all and she was frozen in her place.

Hwayoung, is that you?

Hwayoung!

Hwayoung...

Jungwon then fell into unconsciousness as he heard the emergency sirens slowly softening down.
