Chapter 18 : Tension.

"I have an important meeting to get to, just do your work and don't leave." The detention teacher said to the three of us as she got up and left.

I wondered why they were both in detention and why it had to be them two. It would make my life a little easier if I had just made up my school work when I was at home. Oh well, too late now. Guess I'm in here for the rest of the week.

The room was silent for a bit before Jake got up out of his seat. He pulled the chair out next to me and sat down.

"I didn't expect to see you here out of all places." He smiled at me.

"I've been in detention before."

"Really? Never seen you here." He replied.

I looked to my other side to quickly catch and glance at Heeseung. He had his AirPods in and wasn't really paying any attention to us.

"So, what are you doing here?" Jake caught my attention again.

"I just have a bunch of unfinished school work to do."

"You wanna come over later and work on it together?" He asked me.

His dorm? By ourselves? I don't know. I should listen to Sunghoon and forget about what had happened before. But a part of me wants to keep being close with Jake.

"I'll think about it." I smiled at him and got back to work.

Jake went on his phone for the rest of the time being. I kept taking glances over at Heeseung. I really wanted to talk to him again like we normally did all the time. I just needed a good time to apologize and hopefully everything will go back to normal.

I guess I stared at him for too long as I noticed he was staring back at me. My eyes averted back to my work as I heard him chuckle ever so lightly.

I smiled to myself again. He laughed. That means he isn't so mad at me?

"What are you smiling at?" Jake said to me.

"Oh, uh, nothing. What are you in detention for?" I quickly changed the subject.

"Skipping class." He leaned in closer to my ear.

"I heard Heeseung over there was caught vaping behind the field house." He whispered.

He- what?

I looked back over to Heeseung and found him sleeping, leaning against the back wall.

I didn't know he did that sort of stuff. It made me realize that I don't know much about him. I guess I never really took the time to get to know him. That thought made me feel even worse.

I know I'm only 17, but i, in fact, did vape too. No one knows about it, and no one plans to know about it. I'm not addicted or anything, I use it maybe once a week. Only when I'm really stressed out about something.

I have thought about quitting for good, but it's always just sitting in my room. One time, Jay found out and asked to use it sometimes. I know, not the best example, but he's my brother. We go through everything together.

I kept looking at Heeseung sitting so peacefully. He does that kind of stuff? He would never. Right?

"Y/n, wake up." I lifted my head up off my arms. I fell asleep while reading the essay I was working on earlier.

"Detention is over." Jake said resting his hand on my back.

I stood up, grabbing my books. I turned to look over at Heeseung again. He was still sleeping with his AirPods in.

"Come on, lets go hang at my place." Jake said waiting by the doorway.

"Should we wake him up?" I asked.

"He'll get up on his own." He replied.

I walked over to Heeseung anyways. "I feel bad for leaving him though."

Jake sighed as I tapped Heeseung on the shoulder. His eyes slowly opened, staring at me.

He stretched his arms up and fixed his fluffy hair back in place before he took his AirPods off.

"Detention ended." I said to him. Before he could say anything, Jake grabbed my hand and pulled me out to leave the classroom.

"Why did you do that?" He asked me.

"I don't know, I just felt like it I guess."

"Okay...well you shouldn't be so close with him." He said.

Huh?

"What do you mean?"

"He's new here, and I've just heard lots of rumors about him. And the fact that he vapes and all that."

Right. Couldn't forget about that one.

His comment made me feel weird. I didn't know whether to believe him or not. I was curious about the rumors, but I decided to not ask and let it go.

"Hey, let me grab my bag from my locker real quick." I said, letting of of Jake's hand.

"Okay, I'll pull my car up to the front." I nodded as he walked further down the hallway.

I grabbed my remaining things and put them into my bag. I thought about what Jake had told me a few minutes ago.

Stay away from Heeseung? I don't know. I mean, how could I possibly stay away from him? I literally share a dorm with him. Not to mention, he's just always kinda everywhere.

"Y/n." I closed my locker quickly to see Heeseung standing beside me.

Speak of the devil.

"Hey." I said quietly. He stared at my face, looking at my features.

He probably also noticed I lost weight, I guess.

"Can we talk for a sec?" He asked, leaning a bit closer to face me.

"If it's about the night of the party, I'm sorry. I should have told you about everything that was going on." I started.

"Not that anything is going on between me and Jungwon. Because there isn't." I quickly clarified.

He stayed silent for a moment.

"Are you sure?" He asked. He stepped forward a little.

"Yeah, I kinda cut him off a while ago." I looked away from him. His eye contact game is no lie.

"Is that so?"

"Hm?" I looked back up at him, just now noticing how close we were.

His eyes were looking down at me with a sparkle in them. His doe eyes were always my favorite feature about him.

Heeseung's face came closer, a couple inches away.

"What are you doing?" I asked slowly, scared to make any sudden movements.

"What do you think I'm doing?" He spoke with a soft voice, but not a whisper.

"We shouldn't." I stated. Starting more things with more people is not what I need right now. "We cant."

I looked down at the floor, hoping he would move back.

His hand moved up to my chin and his finger lifted my head up to face him again. He had a little smirk on his face.

"Says who?"

My eyes flickered down to his lips from his eyes.

His face moved in even closer. My stomach filled with nervousness.

He closed his eyes as he moved forward, finger still under my chin.

"Y/n?"

I shoved Heeseung back a little from being startled. I turned around to see Jake standing with his phone to his ear.

"Jake!" I said quickly, putting on a smile. "You're here, I thought I was meeting you out front."

"I tried calling you but you didn't answer." He said slowly as he put his phone into his back pocket. His eyes averted from mine to beside me.

"What's up, Sim Jake?" Heeseung said as he stepped into view.

"Y/n, what's going on here?"
