Chapter 7

Alexis wakes up in a metal circular room.

All around her is white, on the bed, the floor, the walls, everything.

She tries hard to remember where she is. When it dawns on her, she gasps and jumps off the bed. She runs to the door and tries to open it.

When she realizes the door is locked she begins to pound on the door screaming. “Let me out! Open this door now!” Nobody answers.

She is stricken with fear as she remembers exactly how she came to be locked in this room. She returns to the bed and sits on it. The white paper sheets crinkling as she does. She pulls her knees up and rocks back and forth, breathing in and out deeply.

Tears begin to roll down her cheeks as the dawning realization that she is being held hostage by robots crushes down on her. How can this be, she thinks. How can robots be designed this way? She begins to heave and sobs loudly.

She rocks back and forth crying deeply for what was probably hours. Slowly the sobs subside and she lies down and drifts off to sleep, lulled by her deep breaths and beating heart.

Alexis awakens to noises coming from the right of her.

The bed is pushed up to the rounded wall and she is facing the plain white paint.

Remembering where she is she draws in a sharp breath and slowly, without making much sound, she rolls over to investigate the noises.

She silently screams in her head when she sees a robot staring at her with a syringe in its titanium hands. “Do Not Be Afraid…I Will Not Hurt You…” The robotic voice says.

Strangely the robotic voice, like the previous one she heard, is not the kind of robotic voice she imagined robots would have.

The voice of these robots sounds human with a metallic accent, if that makes any sense she thinks.

“What do you want from me? And what do you think you’re going to do with that needle?” She asks the human robot.

“I Have No Answers To The First Question…. And I Have To Give You A Bolaran Metadose….” “A what?” She demands. “Just Close Your Eyes, It Will Be Over In A Few Seconds…” The Robot says in as much as a soothing voice as he is capable of.

When he draws closer to her she quickly scoots back. “I Will Restrain If Necessary….” Says the voice. Alexis whimpers and holds out her arm.

The robot touches her shoulder with his cold metal hands and she jumps.

She looks down and realizes she is wearing grey shorts and a grey tank top. “You guys undressed me? What the hell?”

The robot pulls her shoulder down and as fast as lightning, jams the needle into the side of her neck. “Aghhh” she screams. He pulls the needle out and places the cap on it. “All Done…” He exclaims. “Yeah, thanks” she says in a sarcastic tone.

Rubbing her neck softly she realizes there is a bulge now poking out of her neck. She pushes on it, and then immediately jumps from the pain. “What is this???” She exclaims loudly. “Bolar…” “Yes I know, but WHAT IS IT?” She interrupts.

“Do Not Worry, It Will Only Help, Not Harm…” He tells her. “Thanks so much for your informative answers, you are so very helpful” Alexis tells him. “Can I go now?”

The robot human shakes his head and makes for the door. “Wait!! Where are you going, let me out of here, please!!”

He opens the door and shuts it behind him, the lock clicking in place.

Through the port hole in the window, he stands for a good few seconds staring at her, and with what seems to be his attempt at sadness he looks her straight in the eyes.

He slightly moves the corners of his mouth and tries to portray kindness. Alexis thinks to herself, he seems so human like.

Again, tears start rolling down her cheeks. She lies down and instantly falls asleep.
